Well, like I've said before, it's like putting Sonic Youth on as a main stage headliner. They could f**king do it and they'd still get a great audience - and the gig would be amazing - but Festival Republic just wouldn't want to take the risk.

If you put Sonic Youth (or, indeed, The Jesus and Mary Chain) as a headliner, what you'd be faced with is a thousand and one chavs and idiots all going "who da fock r dey? I wanna c Pendulam LOLZZ!!11" - and what makes it worse is that Festival Republic try to cater to these imbeciles, as if they have a voice worth hearing.

What the festival becomes, then, is a place to soak up enjoy popular culture rather than a place to promote good alternative music that isn't necessarily popular but is great to listen to all the same.

Incidentally, Belle and Sebastian are headlining Latitude this year. I'm considering getting some tickets because it's around my birthday. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's on July the 17th (which is my birthday).

I don't reckon it would be a shit crowd, to be honest. You wouldn't get a w*nker in a crowd of Sonic Youth fans. I've been to a few of their concerts in my life and I've never met a dull person. They wouldn't pull in the numbers (unfortunately) at Reading/Leeds but to be honest, who gives a shit? Most people who go to see them know that when they see them, they are one of the greatest bands in the world. Whilst everybody else is watching The Libertines we can rest assured knowing that we're watching somebody far better, and we'd take comfort in that.

  • 2 weeks later...

The National to headline, they have a big gap in their tour dates http://www.americanmary.com/tour.php

The Antlers also have a big gap, would be epic http://antlersmusic.com/tour/

Frightened Rabbit my third choice hopefully will also play http://www.myspace.com/frightenedrabbit

Keeping my fingers crossed lots and lots. If I ask for it enough then who knows, they might play.

    • I guess we'll just have to wait until videos of the shows go up, but the fact that the standing is also greyed out still suggests to me that those sections just sold out out before the others and a blue block just be like 3 tickets left, it's still not concrete proof they never went on sale and if they were never on sale why would they not make it even, if 414 wasn't on sale then you'd think 409 wouldn't be either
    • Selfish, but I've done the 2 days I'm there.. i'll try to do the rest through the day but might get beaten to it as it's editable....    https://clashfinder.com/s/ape2026/
    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
    • And all (or all but one) of the secret sets repeats though?
