::: GUILLAUME AND THE COUTU DUMONTS :::

Ever an energetic actor in the electronic music scene, Montreal based artist Guillaume Coutu Dumont maintains numerous collaborative projects, performing regularly in his hometown and around the world. Driven by his passion for hybrid forms of musical expression, Guillaume continues on his quest for the ultimate ham bone funk recipe with his solo project: Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts a special blend of funk, house, techno, gospel, swing and afro-beat. His first album FACE ¿ L'EST was released on Musique risquÈ in 2007. So far, his solo outputs are available on Mutek_rec, Musique RisquÈe, Hartchef Discos, Floppy Funk, OSLO, Raum Musik and on French labels Circus company and Karat.

Guillaumeís initial musical forays were as a percussionist in a funk band, after which he studied latin and classical percussions in college before discovering electroacoustic composition, which he pursued further at university. It was during this period that he joined [iks], a contemporary jazz formation with whom he recorded two albums and toured for several months in Senegal. Upon his return to Montreal, Guillaume decided to focus his efforts on composition.

Influenced as much by concrete music as by techno, which he discovered one night in the midst of a lightning storm, Guillaume founded Egg (Mutek_rec, Karat, Floppy Funk), Luci (Mutek_rec, Morris Audio), Chic Miniature (Raummusik, Musique RisquÈe), Flabbergast (Mutek_rec), as well as the artistic collective Racam. He has toured with one or another of these projects in north/south America, Europe and Asia. Since January 2007, Guillaume has reached European soil. Like many other, he chose Berlin as his new homebase. Traveling all around the block, he is always looking to get the dance floors grinning with guilty pleasure.

::: SETY :::

Circus Company label head Mathias Duchemin (aka Sety) has been a fierce and tireless activist within Paris' electronic underground scene, determined to carve out a space for unconventional, experimental dance music. In 1999 he co-founded the Circus Company label, along with fellow artists Kean and Freak, of NÙze; in 10 years, it has grown from a local outpost into an international hub. With a roster including NÙze, Ark, Dave Aju, dOP, Mossa, Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts and DJ Koze, among many others, Circus Company has become one of Europe's most respected modern house labels.

Sety spent much of the label's history working behind the scenes, aside from a handful of tracks for Circus Company, Karat and Logistic (where he had the honor of remixing the godfather of minimal techno, Robert Hood). But it's become clear that he's not just talented DJ and curator, but also a formidable producer. His 2008 Sweet & Sour EPówhich included a beautiful and often-charted remix by Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts -showed an unusual focused attention to the fusion of tones, textures and grooves in a powerful current of deep house energy. (It was all the more unusual considering that it was his first solo EP release.) Sweet & Sour received enthusiastic support from the likes of Luciano, Daniel Bell, Zip, and Ricardo Villalobosóbut you wouldn't need to know that to be swayed by the record's immediacy. Since then, Sety has gone on to remix Butane, and more releases are in store.

Sety's years behind the curtain didn't curtail his activity behind the decks, however. His vision and his versatility have confirmed Sety as one of the most promising artists in a new generation of house musicians. He holds a residency at Paris' Rex Club, where the Circus Company family comes together, and also plays at some of the world's most celebrated clubsóBerlin's Panorama Bar, Zurich's Dachkantine, London's Fabric, S„o Paulo's D-EdgeÖIf you've ever caught him at any of those places, or perhaps at a party with no name in a building with no address, on a night where you lost your phone and have nothing to prove that it ever happened, you'll recognize the familiar feeling that Sety exudes. As with Circus Company's records, it's a vision of house music that folds its history into something familiar and strange all at once: mercurial, pulsing, unpredictable, sensual, and unforgettable.

::: DAVE AJU :::

San Francisco native Dave Aju has been producing and performing his unique brand of electronic dance music for nearly a decade. He seasons traditional elements of house and techno with a blend of outside musical influences, notably free jazz and p-funk, a low-slung aesthetic clearly rooted in hip-hop, and an organic sonic approach akin to Musique ConcrÈte. The result is a consistently fresh and expressive sound, varying from raw and percussive to deep and melodic, that is favored by an ever-increasing number of listeners, dancers, DJs, and producers around the world. His in demand status has taken him from Moscow to Mexico City, the highly-respected MUTEK Festival, and has garnered support from a who's-who of forward-thinking peers, from hometown heroes Sutekh and Kit Clayton to the illustrious Matthew Herbert, who has recently commissioned Aju to release material on his Accidental label. His recent debut full-length on Circus Company, Open Wide, is currently causing a stir in the electronic music community with it's bold diversity of musical styles and the strict but effective use of only his mouth to construct it.

After performing live for us twice in the past, this month "The Unorthodoctor" shows off another side of his multi-talented persona with a DJ set crafted specially for [KONTROL].

    • So who's got a good rain dance in the locker, then? Now we're in August the weather watchers can come out of hiding.    Already having flashbacks to last year (the dust cloud of doom at the crossroads by the Courtyard entrance).   Also got to be looking sketchy for the fire/fireworks on the Sunday. Might be a controversial opinion but wouldn't mind it - the fencing annoyance isn't worth the 10 mins of 'oooohhh, aaahhhh', plus the raining of hot embers last year!

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
