Train or Coach to Glasto?

In 2008 i took the coach from Bristol which was good but very difficult getting from my home in rural wiltshire to the coach station in Bristol and even worse going home after the festival. That said, it does drop you very close to a main entrance at the festival site.

What are your views on the train into Castle Cary? I would probably need to change at Westbury and am worried that the trains may already be rammed full of festival goers travelling from further afield and not stop to pick up other passengers? How easy is it to then get onto one of the festival coaches and does it drop you into the main coach/bus park on site?

What was it like at Castle Cary station on the monday?

Any advice gratefully received.

Ta.

I can only comment on the train process. This year I caught the early morning train from Stoke on Trent but it meant changing 4 times until I got to Castle Cary. That being said the train was not too busy until Bristol to Castle Cary when it was full of fellow Glastos when it was packed and no room!!!!

I have caught coaches to Glasgow before now which is a guaranteed bum on seat. However with the coaches it is not a direct route and you tend to come off the motorway stopping at other towns along the way to pick up other passengers which after about the fifth time of doing so I was ready to scream!!! Plus people were travel sick (eugh)

Pros of train are that you can get up and walk around and a (semi) decent loo/catering etc. On a coach there is not much room to stretch legs and the loo is impossible to use while on the M6 and no food!

Castle Cary was manic on the Wed and took 4 hrs to get coach to site so if on coach you get there quicker well that is if you don't get caught up in the traffic!

However coach can be cheaper so its about 50/50 I'd say pros and cons each

Sorry ok I've not really helped have I? I seem to have confused myself

The 4 hr wait was due to the buses getting stuck in all the traffic. This year (or should I say next year!) they say that the traffic problem will be sorted all being well so hopefully no waiting for the buses.

This year they managed to put on police bikes to blue light the coaches through the traffic jams which helped get the coaches there quicker

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
