Locking Tent

First time at V so prob going to head to green campsite. Wife thinks we should put a small padlock on the tent to reduce chance of someone going in and nicking stuff, however I think it makes it look like we would have something good in there and be more tempting.

Is it worth doing?

A padlock also says "We are out at the moment so theres little chance of us catching you trying to get into our tent."

If people want to get into a tent, they can just slash it, so if someone is going to steal from me, I'd rather still have somewhere to sleep.

Simple things really to reduce theft - anything nickable you can carry then keep on you or don't take, anything you seriously won't need until leaving then get a locker... oh and stick your wallet in your sleeping bag or a safe stash at the far end of the tent - its amazing how people get stuff nicked by leaving it in their jeans next to the door so a hand can come in and help themselves.

Also if your going to have a rucksack have that at the far end of the tent if possible too, so many people leave a daysack in the porch of a tent and then wonder why its been nicked, its because they can.

Padlocks attract thieves and if you want a classic practical joke apply padlock to your mate's tent zips and watch for ten minutes as they try and get out - just make sure they aren't dumb enough to try and cook in it!

another rule I've followed is to pull everything out your bags... they arent gonna search through all your stuff and its an excuse if your a messy get like myself ;)

Don't do what i did last year, i put all my cash in the inside of a loo roll when i was hammered for safe keeps....couldn't bloody find it for 2 days! haha. I've never experienced crime at V (although i'm sure it happens) the padlock does seem like a bad idea. Staffs is right, push it all to the back and keep it messy and not in a bag!

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
