No it all changed last Thursday (seriously), now we're told Tamiflu doesn't work very well, to diagnose without swabs, and not to report cases. Only high risk peeps get Tamiflu, everyone else takes their chances, and we basically ignore it. If you are to have Tamiflu your 'flu "friend" goes and gets your prescription, and collects it for you from your local Tamiflu stockist, currrently the hospitals round here.

When I last spoke to public health this plan was confirmed, but sadly they had not yet got round to telling the hospitals. Fortunately my local pharmacy had some for the one chap who needed it.

MMMMMMM My son has just been diagnosed with Swine flu his symptoms where yesterday started of with a serve headache and he went to bed early but throughout the night he was being sick and this headache would not go off plus his throat was really sore and he found it hard to swallow his cough is horrendous and his stomach is still upset plus the fever is high so i rang NHS direct who gave me the number for the Pandemic line and they diagnosed it.

The Tamiflu was a pain we live in the rural and my partner had to travel 40 miles to get this drug which was a pain as he had to cut work which isn't good

anyway we are waiting for the doctor to come apparently we where told they have to come out to also diagnose the swine flu/

My son is ill in bed he cannot get up and he says he feels like he has taken a high pill which maybe a good thing for some people lol ut not for him. Oh and apparently this tamiflu has to be taken with food and he has no appetite you cannot win.

He is 23 years old and healthy but still got given the tamiflu drug and i thought you had to be elderly or have underlying problems before this was prescribed..mixed words i think

Yup, lots of mixed messages.

Your doctor does not need to visit to diagnose 'flu, this can be done over the phone.

Generally fit and healthy young people should not need Tamiflu, but if your son is particularly unwell your GP may give it to reduce the risk of complications afterwards, and the length/severity of the illness. Given the side effects that are being reported you can understand that it is difficult for a GP to weigh up benefit vs. risk in this situation. Your son is more than likely to make a rapid recovery no matter what is done. I had Tamiflu when I got it, but was probably being a bit of a wet blanket.

The only times I would visit would be if I was contemplating admitting the patient to hospital, or if there was uncertainty over the diagnosis (I'm waiting for the first meningitis case to be missed due to swine 'flu, it seems inevitable).

A 2 year old girl and 48 year old mother already have died of meningitis when they were diagnosed with swine flu. These were the beginning of August I think. It's awful!
