Peache Calhoon
He was great at The Glade that year: I danced like a loon. Happy days
Peache Calhoon
Just a not to say R.I.P Uriel Jones For those who don't know he was the last surviving drummer in the Motown session band known as the Funk Brothers.

luckyman
My dad told me that Funk was the devil's way of getting rid of excess gas.... Mind you, George Clinton ran over his first wife so he might have been a shade biased...

Peache Calhoon
So people now we have seen the line-up where do you think the funkiest place is going to be this year ? in the day and late night? where do you think the funk is going to land ? Craig_G
I didn't really spot anything funk wise. however I did see Maceo Parker at the jazz Cafe last week - so I've got a proper dose of true funk.
FunkyDenz
Wow, what a fantastic thread. Glad to see fellow Funk lovers at Glasto. Not sure about the Funkiest place, but it won't be far off. Lonnie Liston Smith @ Jazz/World Stage on Saturday evening. If you like your Afro-Funk then you can't go wrong with Fela Kuti's son Seun Kuti and Fela's Egypt 80, closing The Park stage on Sunday night. Craig_G
i don't really know Lonnie Liston but isn't he mainly easy/smooth jazz? Not exactly a funk master....
Craig_G
I agree - Craig Charles will probably be the best funk show there this year. But this is what I wanna see......!
FunkyDenz
Lonnie Liston is, but Lonnie Liston Smith is a Jazz, Soul, Fusion and Funk star. His Expansions is considered the first Jazz-Funk Fusion record. Just spotted Manu Dibango is playing too, another Afrobeats legend, and credited with what is often considered the first disco record, Soul Makosa. The_Amazing_Oblong
You could kick off your weekend by putting some groove in your step with a bit of Perceptions funk at Jazz World Friday lunchtime.

kingmonkey99
If only they could get Prince 2 play @ glasto. He could play pyramid stage on the sat nite followed by 1 of his aftershows on the jazz world stage then Maceo and the N.P.G do there own show on the Sunday nite!!!!! Then we could get some funk all nite long. Edited June 2, 2009 by kingmonkey99
