Does anyone know if this year it's going back to the original layout because last year sucked. I read that it's going to be more compact or something this year?

It'll be interesting to see how the staggered payment system is going to work, and who is going to participate. If it sounds good i may have to get an R.I.P ticket

Lots of interesting points in that artical mainly the payment of tickets will be staggered if you wish, so you can pay in part for your ticket and the rest later, great idea, and the 3 stage, leaving it up to public vote if you want it to be an open air stage or a tented stage, great vibes coming from Download and their aid to make it the best fest possible for the punters

Also states the cashless system won't be in place this year but will be in 2010

I dunno if this staggered payment thing is meant as an anti-tout measure, it sounds like a great idea but surely this could backfire massively in favour of the touts?? like, they can buy more and pay for them gradually?

I'm not sure that Dl has ever had a massive tout problem to tackle. It's not as if the tickets sell out on the day and then end up on ebay like with reading or T.

I agree it could work in favour of the touts. The only way that ticket touting shall be prevented is by personalising the tickets. i.e. Photo ID'ing or something along those lines. Doubt they'd ever do that but its an idea.

Doesn't it say no line up announced until Feb?

Says that it'll probably be early to mid feb, but if any news is released beforehand we'll be told.

I'd expect to hear some news in the next two weeks or so on here, normally find something out a few days before

really hoping theres no concrete areas for stages this year. that'd suck balls...

we were thinking of going to a different fest instead of Download this year, but with H&H and LOG self-confirmed, we're coming round to the idea of going. That, Glasto, and Bloodstock fingers crossed!!!

The last thing Download are worried about is the touts. Infact i bet they'd bite the hands of anybody who wanted to buy a shed load of tickets after last years sales, most festivals will this year. And i suspect the last thing most of the major touts will be thinking about is Download!

Even if LN gave a shite about touts (and they don't) then it would be the worst idea ever for Download. It falls right in exam time for pretty much every student (and they must make up a big % of the audience) and plenty of them will not be able to go/need to sell their now non transferable ticket. Even if LN allowed returns there would be a cut off date like Glasto and that would be no use to a lot of people. It's unncessary as it doesn't even sell out and a none starter.

As for the new layout, well it can't be anyworse than last years?

I don't know if this is just me or not, but i hardly see any students at download festival??? Again probably because I'm drunk most of the time but there you go!

EDIT: Am i the only one who thought the concrete area for the second stage was awesome?!?

you dont get many GCSE/A Level students as it tends to clash with exams, but uni students you get by the bucket load, part of why its a better festival than Reading/Leeds imo.
