We're at the Marriott. It's to the north, a bit further out of town than we first realised! That sounds like a good idea - better than getting the taxi for the entire trip back!

We stayed in city last year and tried queueing for cabs after the headliner on the first night. Gave up after 30mins of no movement and ended up just getting the train back to Cais do Sodré. From there, getting a cab from around the corner was very quick and easy. Not that expensive either so I'd recommend that for sure.

  2. Took 4 newbies this year and drummed it into them before we even got there about the 'Leave no trace' ethos of the festival. Was so impressed to see them crushing cans and putting them in their bags after drinking whilst we watched bands. They even commented on how refreshing it was to be at a festival where people looked out for each other and that it had reignited their passion for festivals after some previous bad experiences elsewhere.

Shame that there will always be knobs at Glastonbury, but I assume these people are knobs in everyday life anyway.

Can you remember how much a pint was?* And was there a deal on? (I.e. 3 pints for a tenner or whatever)

Also, just read that you can't bring plastic bottles in. That's a bit shit since I'll need 2/3 bottles of water each night to ensure I don't turn into a walking raisin.

*Edit: Pint of beer that is.

Not sure exactly on pint prices, probably around 4/5 euros but I remember the choice of Heineken and Tuborg wasn't exactly thrilling so we stuck to wine. Shame that Super Bock sponsors the rival Lisbon music festival as it's a really nice beer.

Those staying in Lisbon itself and getting the train from Cais do Sodre, make sure you check out the Time Out Mercado da Ribeira opposite the station, some fantastic food at decent prices.

God, wish I was going back to Nos Alive this year - you guys will have a brilliant time!

Hi everyone, anyone know what else the bars sell other than beer? My partner drinks rosé wine and vodka, but I've heard they don't sell spirits, so will have to smuggle some vodka in if there's no rosé for sale. Cheers

Last year there was a stall selling half a bottle of red, white and rosé wine for 5euros each which was a super bargain. It was directly opposite/facing the Heineken Stage.

  5. Gate D around 12pm on the Wednesday, as we were getting our wristbands, one young guy just made a run for it through the turnstiles, only to be chased by 2 security guards as he legged it through the nearby campsites. This led to another guy seeing the opportunity to do the same (this youngster had a huge afro so would have been easy to spot). No idea if they got away but they were quick as hell!

Was quite amusing having everyone there cheering them on (including some of the workers).

Can someone help with the best postcode for orange car parks please? Thanks!!

We always head for BA4 4BY. Hope this helps.

  7. Isn't Sunday's Countryfile basically recorded today, so whatever their verdict is is based on today's charts anyway?

Personally think we'll have a mixed bag of sunshine and showers but enough sunshine for the ground to stay pretty solid underfoot. I'd take that right now.

  8. I had to abandon the festival on the Friday morning of 2005. Was right at the bottom of Pennard Hill when the flood hit (plus the gf at the time woke up with mumps that day). Was the most depressing weekend of my life watching on tv, made even worse by the fact that 2006 was a fallow year. Despite the weather sucking in 2007, I was determined to enjoy every moment and it was probably my favourite year to date!

Is it always that link or does it change for each update?

I tried to test this theory by trying 878 instead of 879 and found myself looking at a nice holiday resort for 5 minutes.

I've had this link bookmarked since last year so pretty sure it doesn't change at all.

  10. Having previously lived in London, I do prefer driving via the M4 but I also know it can be a nightmare going towards London on a Monday morning so will probably avoid it. I do drive to the festival that way though as our meeting point with friends (coming from London) is Reading motorway services.

I'm from the Medway towns! we usually pack the car up on the Sunday and then just stroll out early hours on Monday 3/4am and it's a breeze, miss the m25 traffic too. I know some may say that it's missing out on the Sunday night fun a bit but we would rather have an easy journey home than be sitting in traffic, tired, for hours.

Awesome, thanks - that's what we're planning on doing I think - watch the headliners, catch a few hours sleep and then leave around 4am. In 2013, we left right after the headliner, got caught in 2hrs traffic leaving the site and then had a minor crash from driving without sleep (car written off!). Would rather avoid that this year, ha!

In 2014 I made the mistake of waking up late and leaving at midday. It took 11 hours to get to Kent. Not only was Glastonbury traffic dire but also the m25! I always leave bright and early now and don't have problems

Hi @cb4747 - I'm also from Kent (nr Maidstone) and planning on leaving early Monday morning rather than Sunday night as previous. How early do you usually leave? Want to get a few hours kip but worried about getting caught on the M25 during Monday morning rush hour. Ta.

  13. We tend to arrive about 10.30/11am on the Wednesday morning and usually walk straight in. Sure you'll be fine at 5pm, although I'd assume there'd be a few more people arriving in the evening if they've had to work that day.

  14. I too am concerned by the new album heavy setlists but will be there hoping for lots of classics. Would be a perfect start to the Friday to hear 'Laid' played live!

  15. I'm with the OP regarding thoughts on this years lineup. Am a fan of bands like Foals, Muse, etc but have seen them so many times (including at Glastonbury) there's little special or unique about this year. Beck, Grimes and LCD Soundsystem are my only must see acts so Sunday night is going to have mad dashes between the Pyramid, Park and Other stages.

Still, we all know there's more to the festival than the bands so I know I'll have a great time nonetheless. Plus, discovering something previously unknown to me is always nice.

    6.5/10
