I watched 7 minutes and thought Nah so caught last 5 mims of Cooper Clarke then wandered around an empty Shangri-la!

I had to check the poster!

Goldfrapp west holts then Metronomy on the park

both were so quiet we got to stand at the front of the stage (on the side)

Stormzy I think, also after 1 album

Good shout and there is parallels with BE as both at the time were hot properties.

stormzy still felt more established though through the collaboration stuff he’d done

We went back and forth with that a few months ago with arguments on both sides.

My take is yes, easily big enough! She’s one of the hottest artists on the planet. Some think she needs more of a back catalogue but I think she’s there now.

It’s the range that lets her down for me. I don’t doubt she’s super hot at the moment.

which headliner previously had the smallest back catalogue I wonder?

  4. I truly don't mind. I'll happily stick with this years 3 but frankly i'd also take AM or even Muse.

I'd watch Macca, maybe Kendrick (need more listening) and I've seen Taylor in Manchester on her last tour (took my young daughter) Great show but I wouldn't do it again.

That night gives me a chance for an early start in the South East corner so all good!

Howdy folks...sorry I'm late to the party! Was in a meeting and could see notifications coming up!

So, looks very promising indeed. The vaccinated group not only didn't develop severe disease, but also had way fewer infections. Based on this, the suggestion is that the vaccine provides sterilising immunity (how long it lasts? far too early to say). By the numbers (94) it looks like Pfizer skipped their first planned interim analysis at 32 events and held on to get stronger data before unblinding. Appears that has paid off. They still need to wait until November 21st to get their follow up safety data before the FDA will grant EUA, but on the current efficacy data, that's a lock (unless people start keeling over). There's other good news too. The Moderna vaccine is right behind it, using exactly the same technology. Both are a pain in the arse to ship but much easier to scale up than previous vaccine platforms (and also much easier to adapt if the mink variant actually turns out to be a thing, you just insert the new sequence). Having two available would ramp up delivery as well. No indication so far either that the Oxford vaccine won't make it over the line as well, so best case scenario is a hat trick with the front runners with a whole posse of others brining up the rear later next year (J&J could even get there by the end of this year...that one did have sterilising immunity win pre-clinical studies, and Moderna claim theirs did too). The one major note of caution at this stage is that a sub-group analysis would be impossible at this stage, so how well the vaccine performs in high risk groups won't be known til the trials fully play out (not just older individuals, but different ethnic groups, people with different underlying co-morbidities etc). Also, none of the individuals that actually contracted the virus in the control group (or the vaccinated group) developed severe disease, so one of the primary endpoints of the trial can't be evaluated yet...however, if it provides 90% sterilising immunity, then that's a big (and fairly unexpected) win!

Thanks for the detail. Its great to hear from a source that I can trust (no spin)

Fantastic that we may have multiple options.

I may start praying to the weather gods again soon for June!

There is absolutely zero chance of enforcing safe distancing when in a crowd, especially somewhere like Glastonbury. Even if they could, it just wouldn't be worth it - it would ruin the vibe completely.

No issues with the other measures (temp checks, sanitiser etc), but personally speaking I would not be in favour of enforcing masks at all.  This was to be my first year at Glasto and I was beyond excited, but if they were to insist on mask wearing in crowds next year, I would reluctantly have to return my tickets and wait for normality to resume.  The thought of standing in a field full of people wearing masks and not being able to see the looks of joy on their faces would just not be worth it for me.

Would be interested to hear what you all think - Glasto next year with mandatory mask wearing, or wait until masks are not necessary?

Also, loving all the positivity - liking this thread  👍

I totally agree that there is zero chance of mask wearing being enforced.  It could be  a recommendation from the festival and personal choice.

Honestly i wont want to wear a mask in-front of an outdoor stage.  Could consider it inside though if that was the only way.

  7. We know they will be looking at every possible solution to ensure the festival takes place.

I don't believe they would go down a ballot route.

    It's all in or nothing.

I can see them asking for health declarations (symptom free 7 days before) or don't attend.

Maybe even discouraging the more vulnerable groups to give it a miss next year.

I can also see them temp checking on entry (even randomly)

More sanitiser stations and lots of covid information everywhere encouraging hand hygiene and safe distancing (or use a mask) when in a crowd.

I'm optimistic for next year but in truth thats as much driven by desperation as anything else.

Getting through the winter, a decent level of vaccine and we will see.

Then hope the government is supportive!

Exactly. I'm not saying don't take it seriously, don't follow the rules etc... But if you are sensible, you can have some sort of life. There are some frustrations, like I aired myself over the weekend.

I just think there needs to be some sort of context put around these numbers. It's 200 and something cases per 100k where I live or 1 in 1000. At the moment I probably stand within 5 metres of a handful of people a day and that includes collecting a child from school - the odds are stacked in my favour.

If I catch it I catch it, it's not going to be through recklessness on my part, it could be due to a lapse of concentration or letting your guard down briefly but that's not recklessness. We have already lost most of a year to this shit, it's time to start living with it.

It's Kublor Ross in action at a national scale.

Never thought i'd see this referenced on the forum!

I am however very happy it was.

    Good analogy

    omg what happened?

    2017

Travelling down on the Wednesday with my two daughters, stressed with work loads of things going on, trying to do everything.

I managed to pick up one envelope containing booking confirmations but left the other envelope containing the tickets.

We joked on the way down about forgetting tickets as i continued to feel the envelope in my shorts.

Got to the car park and was stopped for a random car check.

Discovered i couldn't find the tickets but had confirmation email and other bits.

Went in to PED Gate A, ticket office, spend more than 4 hours with helpful people trying to find a solution with everyone convincing me that it would be sorted and we'd get on site.

I finally got to the person with the power who categorically said NO!

Phoned my brother in law who kindly drove down to meet me and we met around half way back up towards Liverpool.

Came back to site got to pre booked tent with Camp Lite (thank god I'd booked that) around 2am

    Missed all of Wednesday

    Felt a prat!

I will say that the security team at PED Gate A were fantastic and helpful, and sympathetic. They even agreed to mind our gear until we got back

I've never known anyone getting searched or anything in the time I've been going hope it's not gonna be a thing now

Back in 2016 i stood with my daughter early in the day by the top of the other stage (bands hadn't started) and watched a group of around 20 undercover police talk about the plans for the day and the process to follow.

Made me very nervous and i wasn't up to anything!

I'm pretty sure the Apple Tree Inn, on the West Pennard side of the site, had closed before the lockdown.

Next along, The Red Lion (in West Pennard itself) is on the market:  https://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-71080566.html

In Glastonbury itself, the George was already on the market before the lockdown : https://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-67641504.html

And the  Hawthorns (a lively live music venue) has clearly had enough, coming on the market just recently:  https://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-80270479.html

Another iconic pub nearby, The Sheppy, has also gone on the market:  https://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-93599294.html

That's three pubs there that some festival goers (Red Lion, George, Hawthorns) might know, two of which have owners who must have had enough.  It's not great times in the independent pub sector.  There are a number of other pubs within a few miles of the site that have been on the market for months before the lockdown.

    I'd love the Red Lion!

I'm very tempted by the Quest, but isn't it due a refresh?

Apparently there is but it's been delayed until probably 2021. It look like it will be smaller and lighter with maybe an improved frame rate.

    All would be good improvements.

Its like any tech. we can keep waiting for the newer version or take the leap.

Honestly for personal use I might wait!

Any idea if Google Cardboard can do this?  I had a quick Google and couldn't find anything obvious.

I’m no expert at all but I am trying to learn about the tech as I see a place for it in my work.
google cardboard is basic compared to what’s available now. It will all depend on how immersive they want to make it and how much freedom they plan in. I wouldn’t be surprised that you need something like the oculus quest headset.   It’s an amazing piece of kit for the money and would make the experience fantastic
