How quickly does family camping fill?

First time going as a family (with a 17 month old - slightly terrified of this!) so not stayed in family camping before. Just wondering how quickly it fills up?

In terms of the Eastern field (my mind has gone a blank on the field names, sorry) - in 2011 it went really quickly as there was little attempt to police the "family" aspect and plenty of people were camping there regardless.

In 2013 I was camped around the corner in Kidney Mead, and could see a huge difference in terms of stewards/security trying to ensure that the field was used by people with kids. It still filled up within a few hours though - I'd guess about noon but could be out on that.

Not sure about the Western field as I've never been close enough to see it first hand, but from what I've heard it takes a lot longer to fill.

Don;t be terrified, my son was 8 months for his first Glasto and he is coming with us again this year. We camped in the family camping near the kids field (cockmill Meadow) and at 10am we found a space for 5 tents near the back. It was quite full by 11am, one man only tents from 12pm and pretty much bursting by 2pm.

I think the other family camping (Wickett Ground) never properly fills up; there are even rumours of grass around tents!?

Haha that's 'cos it's miles away from anywhere!

I'll be aiming to get down first thing on Wednesday (but hey, doesn't everyone these days) and hoping to get a spot in the Cockmill Meadow field.

We let our tickets go last year when our daughter would have been about 6 months, kind of regretted it since so we were pretty pleased to get tickets on Sunday! The wife is letting me go down Weds where I'll meet up with friends for two days, then she'll arrive on Friday and I'll switch to 'family mode'...

Thanks!

Will probably stay at my folks in Wiltshire then head to the site in the wee hours of Wednesday morning so should get to Cockmill Meadow in plenty of time (we just have one tent). Wife is bringing sprog down seperately so nothing to slow me down :)

I don't really understand why anyone would want to camp there if they don't have a family - seems most odd!

The other thing I noticed when I got there last year is that there were laods of tents already there that looked like they had been there a good while (bits of rubbish, bunting up etc). I'd say about 1/4 of the field was already taken before the Wed if that's even possible?!

Sorry to jump on the thread...just wondering whether the family camping is monitored/policed in any way to ensure families only? Only asking as my partner will drive down Tuesday night with some friends, who'll be camping separately so will be on site as the gates open and I'll bring our one year old later in the morning once the original queue has cleared - so when he arrives at cockmill he'll be on his own without a child...do you think there'd be any problems with this?

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
