html / CSS problem

As you might have noticed, the forums (when using the normal skin) no longer have the gradiented-grey background.

I've had to remove it because the 'internal' browser of an android app wouldn't display the forums properly with the background in place. For some reason it would display only the background.

I've double-checked the relevant CSS on the w3.org validator, and it tells me that it's right.

The offending bit of CSS code (currently removed) is this...

html, body { 
	background-image: url(/img2009/BG_forums340.gif);
	background-repeat: no-repeat;
	background-position: center top;
	background-attachment: fixed;
}

Does anyone have any ideas for what I could try which might work to get the background back and have the page display properly? Any suggestions gratefully received.

not quite perfect (cos it scrolls and should be fixed) but certainly better than it was - thanks again.

Having spent hours adding and removing bits of the CSS to try and track down where the issue was so I could make the problem go away, i'd lost the will to go googling for a solution.
