Y-Not Festival

Hi All , Im off to the Y-Not Festival next month. Its a small festival in Derbyshire, tickets are cheap £65 for weekend camping which seems very reasonable. Does anyone have any more information on it which isnt on the website ? I'd like to know about taking my own drink an the usual stuff. Cheers

I have been twice now and going again this yer, it's a great little festival. well ran and organised,in a beautiful setting as well. The campsite is plenty big enough, with family/quiet camping if you need it. one main stage and a couple of smaller tents. these get packed early for the more popular acts but in general the stages/tents are a couple of mins walk from each other so you can easily pop between stages for different acts.

The bar is also great, loads of real ales and ciders at very reasonable prices, and they sell ice cold cans as well. there is another cocktail bar in the "main arena" as well.#

The walk from the car to the wristband exchange is 5 mins max, and then onto the campsite another 5-10 mins depending on where you want to camp.

One downside is that the "arena" as such is seperated from the campsite, so unfortunately they don't allow you to take your own beer in with you once you leave the campsite to go to the stages.

Food choices personally i have found lacking somewhat, plenty of "snacky" things like hot dogs vans,burger vans, donuts etc but not much if you want a filling meal, and for breakfast there is very little choice and the queues are always huge at that time of the day so i would advise taking food for brekkie each day to save the wait!!! but thats just my personal opinion on the food there, others love it, i just like one filling meal a day at festivals and i have always found this option lacking somewhat at Y- Not, that said tho they are improving with the choice each year!

if the weather is bad just be warned the car park can get very bogged down, but again this they have improved on each year and was much better last year, and they have friendly people in tractors to pull you out if you get really stuck!

All in all a great little festival, well ran and friendly. Hope some of that helps!

Great little festival went in 09 and despite it being a mudbath still had a brilliant time. For a 3 day festival for that price its an absolute bargain.

How do the stage times work there? I have heard that the stages run so that over the man two stages, bands are not on at the same time so its possible to see both. Is this right?

Y not is one of my favourite festivals I love it I think headshrinker has covered everything so can't really give you any more info. Just to echo what he said about the food I also found it to be a problem... there's not really anything substantial to eat in the evening's after a day of drinking so would definitely recommend taking a few meals with you. Theres a Sainsburys in Matlock Bath which is only a 10 min drive from the site so we always pop there Sunday morning to replenish the cool box :)Only other tip I can give you is make sure you try the Calzone its delicious!

No I wouldn't say so. It did originally start off a few years ago as a six form festival but I'd say now its more like Glastonbury with a complete mix of ages. Camped next to use last year we had a group of 40/50 year old's one side, group of 30 year olds the other side and group of 16 year old's opposite and then me and OH are both in our 20's so complete mix i'd say. They seem to have thought it through so that it caters for everyone with separate family campsite, real ale bars etc and then late night tent for for the younger crowd.

Ah I love Y not festival, its been going since 2006 and Ive been going since 2007 so seen it grow each year, its a really good little festival. Was nice that last year there were a few clothes stalls and trinkety type things stalls to mooch around, and like someone else said, the real ales and ciders are fab, but dig in quick cause they do tend to run out! were some amazing ciders on last year, and quite strong too! Line up is good this year, with go team on the friday, feeder on the sat and maximo park on the sunday. also beardyman, miles kane and others.

lets hope for some sunshine this year guys!!fancy dress theme is good verses evil, so cant wait to get dressed up!!
