Train down on tuesday and stay overnight somewhere?

After the travel nightmare last year i'm considering getting the train down on tuesday. Then staying overnight somewhere and getting to the site first thing wednesday.

Looks like the only nearby station is Castle Cary and places to stay are Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet or Glastonbury.

Anyone have any tips on where to stay and how to get to the site on wednesday?

Free shuttle buses from Castle Cary to the site starting the Wednesday, think they will be busy though . Its what i am doing.

I don't know where you're travelling from but it might be easier heading for Bristol - several hotels near Temple Meads station and the £10 shuttle bus running from there from Wednesday morning.

If every hotel, guest house and b&b is NOT already full within 20 miles of Pilton I would be very surprised indeed!

The Bristol idea sounds good or Taunton maybe? Any place that is on the train line that has direct connections to Castle Cary realistically but Pilton and Shepton are more than likely full.

Get a map, make enquiries now and start making those travel and accommodation plans!

"Michael Eavis has announced that the car parks for next year’s festival will open on Tuesday night in the hope that it will prevent the 20-mile tailback which was experienced on the Wednesday of this year’s Glasto.

Portable toilets and food stalls will be available to those who arrive before the gates open at 9am.

Eavis said although people will have to wait in their cars, it will be better than “being lined up by the side of the road for six hours”.

Michael would also like more people to travel there by public transport as it saves “a hell of a lot of traffic and saves a lot of space”.
