Wristbands, Barcodes & Lessons From IOW

Hi,

I went to IOW this year and they had the same system of wristbands as they are having at V (little sticker with barcode on it).

At IOW a lot of people were finding that the sticker was getting faded/rubbed off etc. The barcode is your ticket (the little square barcode thing). There is no chip in these wristbands, its all about that barcode.

Also, there is a metal eye-let thing holding the wristband together (near the clip). This eye-let had a tendancy to pull through the fabric on the IOW wristbands resulting in them dropping off people's wrists. I saw quite a few on the paths & in the arena that must have just pulled of people's wrists.

IOW responded very well on this by opening a wristband exchange where you could go to exchange your worn out wristband for a new one. I had to have mine replaced Sunday morning and I was being carefull with it - but it still started to pull through.

V have stated on the T&Cs (written on the card envelope thing that the wristbands come in) that they will not replace any wristbands under any circumstances & they say that you should look after your wristbands as it cost you 152.50 quid.

So, look after it - I know from IOW how easy it is to rub the face of that sticker off or pull it off your wrist - they are not a good design.

Anyways, just a lil warning.

Less waiting times actually . . . you now don't have to spend the hour or so waiting in the queue at the wristband exchange, which was a right pain!!!!!

And they only scan it on entry from the car park to the campsites . . . whch they would have done to your old ticket anyway.

The barcodes will no doubt rub off- having used them at IOW they literally lasted about 2 handwashes as they were just paper stickers. That said, it was absolutely no bother, they just checked the wristband in the same way they would at any other festival and gave up with scanning them.

As for they wont exchange them etc- if you let someone know there is a problem with your wristband they're far more likely to help than if you leave it til it falls off. My OH had his replaced as he put it on wrong and the eyelet started fraying- and IOW also did say that they don't replace/exchange wristbands either in the same way V does- but they aren't going to make it easy to do this and advertise it otherwise they're opening up a huge can of worms.
