does anybody know which airport is the closest and whether there are buses that take you to the festival itself?

also what time do the bands usually come on?

hi there.

i've never been to sudoeste so can't tell you anything from personal experience. But i'm semi-employed at the moment so thought I'd translate a bit of the site for ya.

How to get there ("como chegar")

Car:

Coming from Lisbon, cross the Vasco da Gama bridge (A12...i'm assuming that's a motorway) and follow the A12 motorway until the end. Leave the A12, then take the A2, following the directions for "Sul/Algarve". Leave the A2 when you see signs for "IP8/SINES/Santiago/Grândola", then follow the IP8 for 45km. Leave the IP8 when you see signs for "SUL/ALGARVE/CERCAL" and, 3km afterwards, turn left in the direction of "ALGARVE/CERCAL". Stay on this road for 23km until you get to the area of Cercal where, once you get to the roundabout, you should turn at the first roadsign that says "LAGOS/MILFONTES". continue straight on this road for about 28km, bearing in mind that the first 10km are on a poor quality road. Then turn right in the direction "CABO SARDÃO/ZAMBUJEIRA" and 2km afterwards turn left towards "ZAMBUJEIRA". After 4.6km, at the end of an area surrounded by Eucaliptos, turn left down a small road in the middle of a small forest (?). You're in Herdade Casa Branca.

Bus:

The bus company "Rede Expresso" has buses that leave daily from Lisbon to Praia da Zambujeira (235km) at 7.30am, 10.00am and 17.00pm (arriving at 11.15am, 14.35pm and 21.40pm respectively)

They do buses from Lisbon to Odemira (192km) as well, leaving at 07.30am, 15.00pm and 17.30pm, arriving at 11.20am, 1815pm and 20.30pm respectively.

Check out www.redeexpressos.pt

Train:

Funcheira is the closest train station to the festival and it is served by intercity trains that leave daily from "Lisbon -- Gare do Oriente" in the direction of Faro at 10.20am, 13.20pm, 17.20pm and 19.20pm and arrive in Funcheira at 12.43pm, 15.38pm, 19.43pm and 21.47pm respectively

The train starts at Gare do Oriente but you can catch it at Entrecampos, Sete Rios (these are 2 more Lisbon stations off the top of my head), Pragal, Pinhal Novo, Setúbal, Alcácer do Sal and Grândola

couldn't be arsed to translate the bits about arriving from porto :( but i suppose ryanair do fly in there

when i first saw where the festival was held I'd assume flying into Faro would be closest, but getting there from Lisbon doesn't sound too bad. The flight might be cheaper during high tourist season as well

Can anyone who's been to the festival tell me what it's like? I'd like to go but the lineup doesn't really appeal to me much so far...lily allen?! :( is there much other stuff going on?

and it's basically a festival near the beach? sounds awesome. A friend of mine a couple of years back mentioned some reggae there, but so far all i see is Anthony B and Third World

not sure :/. as it's baking hot there during the day, it sounds like the music starts later on. have you tried asking on the sudoeste facebook group? the link's on the official site's page. portuguese people generally seem to speak alright english

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
