But in the UK he hasn’t played below headline at a festival since about 2012. You could argue that his sticking to headlining smaller events and avoiding things like Glastonbury where he wouldn’t headline is down to his interest in being the main attraction.

(He supported U2 at Twickenham and probably the Stones somewhere, I know)

At Rock Werchter a couple of years back he was 3rd down I think. I know it's outside the UK but it's a big European festival with a lot of English attendees and acts. Think there's more evidence he doesn't expect to headline major festivals than evidence he does

  2. Didn’t Beyoncé sub T in the Park the same year she did Glastonbury?

Some acts just play lower slots at different festivals. I don’t think them not headline TRNSMT says much at all and I’m pretty neutral on this as I don’t really care about Foals.

Don't know. They're massively in demand and still touring Joy... so it wouldn't be a stretch to see them going again.  They've definitely got the appeal at the moment to do it again.  But I don't know whether they're the kind of band to keep doing live shows without new material?

    50/50 for me.

Think they have been recording a new album so it might be out by June. They're in South America in March too.

  4. Macca - 100% - the last "must see" I have left. Delighted with the booking.

The other two? Think they are both great picsand would definitely go to either. However hard to put a number on either of them because it ill be clash central. Great great choices though.

I think headlining is quite possible - as the reward for Pilton Party tends to be a higher slot than they might otherwise get.

Were Rudimental back in 2015 (?) the last band to play PP and headline the Other Stage?

Whilst I agree with your logic, it does seem a bit odd if Emily specifically 'hyped up' the Other Stage headliners as big and then went for an act who are probably on the smaller side of Other Stage headliners.

  6. Been a good year, in a rough order my stand outs:

    1. Michael Kiwanuka - KIWANUKA
    2. Fontaines DC - Dogrel
    3. Remind Me Tomorrow - Sharon Van Etten
    4. Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains
    5. Thom Yorke - ANIMA
    6. Chemical Brothers - No Geography
    7. The National - I Am Easy To Find
    8. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Ghosteen
    9. Slowthai - Nothing Great About Britain
    10. Vampire Weekend - Father of The Bride

Although a lot to listen to (and relisten to). Kano, Springsteen and a few others could edge their way in for me.

Screengrab is fake. You can see where they're covered up the '2 posts' to fake the '3 posts' they have overlapped v slightly with the base of the g's. Typeface of the '3' used is also incorrect.

Also I think that London date makes no sense. One non-festival UK date on Monday when o2, Wembley and London Stadium can't be used

It’s what leads me to believe it’s fake. Kind of assumed they’d be doing big outdoor shows and they wouldn’t be doing them on a Monday and Tuesday in London and Glasgow would they?

So if it isn’t BST/APE, realistically it has to be a stadium or large arena?

The o2 arena isn’t available on that Monday. I guess it could theoretically be a stadium - but Wembley is in use for the Euros that weekend so won’t be used for RATM. Olympic/London stadium also has Green Day that weekend so is a no go...

Hmmmm... that bit doesn’t add up for me sadly

Gotta ask. If the whole Rage thing is legit, how many people plans for Saturday night have changed? Seen Macca once before and even if I hadn't I'm all in on Zack and the boys. See you in the pit!

Mine wouldn’t change because I’ve seen RATM at Finsbury and not Macca, but would have been impossible to choose if I hadn’t.

But all academic as we’re getting RATM into Macca...

One thing that makes me suspicious of the posters validity is the alleged Glastonbury Date.....?

To play the main stages at Glastonbury you must allow the BBC to broadcast your set..... In past RATM have always refused broadcasters permission to do this, they refused at TITP for example....

This isn’t true at all as the Stones weren’t going to show anything.

That said it’s weird if the poster wasn’t spotted by anyone else and if they are playing I genuinely wouldn’t be that surprised if they subbed rather than headlined Other Stage

I'm convinced The Strokes will do a major festival here this time, think they were rumoured for Reading & Leeds? Not sure if they still are or not. They're headlining festivals in the first half of the year so that's bound to continue through the summer.

They're well aware of the sound issues at APE last year so I guess they'll want to put that right as well, a new album is also supposed to be imminent

Could they be a band that's on the Other? They would fit a lot of people's 'big enough to headline' criteria

RatM during Swift on the other would be perfect! Reminds me of Queens of the Stone Age during Beyoncé.

Definitely. It won't be RATM but I would think it would be a heavier act against Taylor. That or someone like Nick Cave, The National etc. (I mean

McCartney feels like it will need something modern against him. Either a big grime star or a big pop act like Dua Lipa would do the trick.

Macca plays live on the reg but tends not to to nail down his plans till quite late in the day. I'm with Neil in that this was only locked down in the last few days. Even then it's quite far flung for Thumbsaloft.

I don't think there is any doubt that he was nailed down until very very recently (100% between Emily Eavis' recent interviews and yesterday's announcement), but I think what @ghostdancer1is saying is that some sort of negotiation could have been going on for some time. I mean if they were talking to his people for 2019, I am sure the following year would have been mentioned in one of the conversations.

When Nick said it wasn't happening, he may have been telling porkies, or it may well have looked completely off at that stage. Like all negotiations things can be on, then off and then on again etc.

Think it’d be pretty bad business practice for this to happen. If there was an agreement to begin with, maybe, but to ask an act to step down, especially one like Foals who would undoubtedly do anything for their shot at the top, would leave a pretty poor taste in everybody’s mouths I’m sure. I mean, we’ve all seen the Kings of Leon vs a Pink Floyd argument that crops up on here. Surely Foals will still be on the bill, either subbing again or headlining Other.

You could always book someone ‘big’ like Foals as Other Headliner though, whilst going for Macca, and if you don’t get him by Christmas you say ‘actually fancy headlining’. You can’t drop someone but can bump someone up

  16. 6 minutes ago, DareToDibble said:

Anyone else reckon it’ll be a fairly huge Other headliner against him? No disrespect to some of the recent Other Stage headliners but most of them would have been playing to a fairly empty field of up against a Beatle!

People were talking about Dua Lipa. Imagine it will be someone along those lines. Modern and pop or a dance act

  17. 9 minutes ago, eFestivals said:

absolutely everything points to Macca being a more-recent addition to the acts they've been trying to get for next year unless Emily has been telling a lot of porkies lately.

Michael and Paul have mentioned it in the last few months though and they did chase him for last year. Is it possible he's always been on the list but they just weren't that confident of pulling it off?

What if he’s Sunday. Make it interesting with no swift

Is there anything linking Swift to Sunday in particular - because she's free Sat and Sun - or does she never play two days in a row?
