    No, it doesn't.

Flo wasn't (near) like for like for Foo Fighters.

Gorillaz weren't near like for like for U2.

Basement Jaxx weren't near like for like for Kylie.

The only one that can really be pointed to is Pulp replacing what remained of The Stone Roses, and that wasn't nailed on to be a success going in (several of the songs they played that night that went down so well and we'd now regard as classics were being played live for the very first time).

No one will beat Reading/Leeds swapping Rage against the Machine for 1975 as the worst ‘like for like’ haha

Considering they got reunited for the 2020 US election and how 2024 will most likely have a UK and US election I feel like it would be a perfect fit for RATM to return.

I hate election time but if it brings RATM back then I’ll take it.

The fact that BMTH are the biggest band in rock/metal now shows that the future is very bleak.

I’d say that the fact that 100,000 turn up at a rammed festival, at a time when rock/metal is supposedly dead, shows that the future is far from bleak.

You judge the whole festival purely on how many female Pyramid headliners there are?

    The media will though.

Look at this week, only the headliners gender and ethnicity were mentioned, not the whole festival.

  5. Glastonbury goers- ‘it’s not all about the headliners’

Also Glastonbury goers- ‘in terms of diversity I’m going to ignore the rest of the festival and only look at the headliners’

    Haha

They’ve chosen three acts that were available and of a suitable size.

They’re not dummies, diversity is on their agenda. They either thought that Lizzo wasn’t up to headling outright or they’d already booked GNR in the slot.

Yeah, I think it’s a case of ‘now or never’ with both GnR and Elton so if they wanted them they’d have to bite the bullet and book them this year.
They can easily redress the balance elsewhere on the bill.

It’s the 50th anniversary of hip-hop… how are we still dismissing things as “rap crap” 😅

Haha, yeah. I suppose that if you think it’s crap, the fact that it’s 50 year old crap doesn’t change things.

I went over to France for euro 2016; at the parc des princes it was easy to set up a cordon, and it worked a treat. quick, organised, logical.

It was absolutely shite at the stade des Frances though, the queues were monstrous and everything was crap. It’s so dependant on the area immediately around the ground and the logistics. I wasn’t surprised when Liverpool had all their issues at the stade des Frances at the champs league final last year, it’s just a really badly run stadium

Yeah, I was at the Euros in 2016 and the ticket was checked a good two or three times before you got anywhere near the grounds.

Obviously that couldn’t work at Brixton though

I won blink-182 tickets today on radio x, so if anyone is thinking about entering the radio 1 competition on Monday do it.

    Great work.

is it worth having a thread for all competitions? Not just Glastonbury?

  10. Seen GnR numerous times over the years, from their original line up at Donington in 1988, to various line ups at Milton Keynes and Reading, to Download a few years ago.Been enjoyable each time to be fair.

Seen Arctics about 3 or 4 times at Reading and have been worth a watch each time. Thought their set at Reading this year was great but got home to see loads of reviews saying they were poor. As I’d been on the beer since lunchtime, I’d say that the majority opinion may be the most credible review of their set. Haha.

Havent as yet got a ticket for Glastonbury but would happily watch both again if I was going. Have no interest in seeing Elton John though so would be on a different stage when he is on.

This bit seems to be pretty awful...
"“By including Plaintiff’s name in the acknowledgements, he left the readers and the public without any doubt of Plaintiff’s identity,” the lawsuit states, adding that she was confronted with a picture of her own face on a tabloid cover at a grocery store after the book’s publication."

It’s strange reading his account of it.

He openly talks about it in his book,Its hard to know whether he is being arrogant or whether he genuinely doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong.

To my knowledge, it's different because only now is she actually able to take legal action. The temporary extension of the statute barred period, allowing people to sue for abuse suffered at a time that would not normally be eligible for prosecution, will have many a rock star from that period quaking in their star studded boots, I'd imagine.

I realise that, it’s just that normally an allegation on its own has been enough to damage an artist’s career. Yet Steven Tyler seems to have got away with this story hanging over him for decades with little impact to his career or reputation.

Same for Elvis, Page and Bowie, every now and then someone comments about underage girlfriends/groupies but it doesn’t seem to have any impact on their legacy.

Although the accusations are obviously awful, they’re also… not at all surprising? Like, didn’t we already kind of know about this kind of stuff re: him and almost every other rock star from that time? They’ve more or less all admitted to it themselves in writing in their biographies over the years.

Suppose it’s different when we get the grizzly details from a victim rather than the glitzed up, badass rock star stories, but it still amuses me when people act shocked over this kind of stuff.

This story has been around for decades but nothing ever seems to come from it.

It comes back into the headlines every few years and then disappears almost as quick as it reappeared.

I suppose it may be a bit different this time though as she has actually taken legal action.

Maybe there’ll be a ‘Prince Andrew’ style pay off and that will be seen as then end of it. Whether he’ll still be able to tour afterwards with any credibility remains to be seen.

LB aren't big enough to sub, firmly 2nd stage headliners or third down. And at this point I doubt Korn will ever get the bump-up, also they only just subbed this year so pretty unlikely.

That said, Limp Bizkit > Korn > RATM would go down a storm.

Limp Bizkit may not be big enough based on the size of venue they play themselves but they always get massive crowds at festivals.

I dont think they are. Theres loads of heavy bands that are always about and never asked/don't play. I defo get the impression theres a quota and thats that.

The Earache and Scum stuff is about as far as they want to go with it. A quick flirt on a Saturday night. A splash and dash.

The don't want hoards of middle aged knuckle dragging metal heads who still live with their parents, all wearing black Kill Em All tshirts having just been dropped off at Castle Carey with their pocket money moshing about  drinking Stella from their faux ivory Viking goblets.

Hey! I’m a metal head and this isn’t an accurate description of me at all

Yes I’m middle aged and I drag my knuckles a bit but my Kill ‘em All T-shirt is too tight for me now.

Plus I drink my Stella from plastic Viking goblets, those ivory ones could have your eye out.

So a big issue with Qatar is infrastructure. There were many more migrants workers dying because they didn't have any appropriate stadia built before.

There are other North African/middle Eastern countries that aren't as oppressive on homophobia, and already have a successful football league and national team. Morocco and Egypt come to mind instantly, and Morocco would certainly be strict on alcohol and public intoxication, but I think it still has solved stadia over 20k built anyway. It would certainly be a genuine, reasonable choice.

I agree on the US btw, take it away from them and let Mexico host it on their own.

Morocco may be strict on alcohol but most of the fans interviewed outside the ground yesterday did appear to be, ahem, high on life.
