I'm marking bands from 0-5, with 0 being 'no way, not even if everyone I'm with wants to see them', and 5 being 'must see'. So far I've got five marked as 5, eight marked as 4, and around thirty marked as 3. I probably don't really need more announcements!

    I'm doing the same system. I have so far 4 - 5's, 10 - 4's, loads of 3's and loads of 0's. Not many scoring 1 or 2.

I'm pretty sure it is this and not just me getting old.;)

I think the problem I partly have is that I've done Glastonbury so many times. Whilst I always have a good time, I now need some stuff on the lineup that gets me really stoked. The last few years this has been acts like rolling stones, portishead, flying lotus phenomenal acts that can really pull a live show off and hit you like a ton of bricks.

Really hope we get some decent acts confirmed next week, otherwise my decision to go will be based on how I feel closer to the time.

Rosin Murphy I saw at leeds last year. Impressive voice but her dramatic stage manor was a bit tiresome. Would definitely see John grant and probably James Blake, but considering I've seen both these acts around 3-4 times each in the last couple of years it's just not that special.

Maybe I just need some banging acid and not to fret the lineup?

I really get what you're saying. You seem like you go to a lot of gigs and festivals and therefore I think the line up could get a little underwhelming as there's only so many bands someone can like and from my experience there's only a few bands that I would get really excited about seeing if I had seen them more than once, especially if they haven't realised much music in the time since.

I'm completely obsessed with music and even I can see that issue. I went to Sziget festival last year with hardly any on the line up that I thought I really needed to see but the bands I did see I really enjoyed and that allowed me to enjoy other areas of the festival. I remember reading that you feel you have seen all the extra stuff at Glastonbury but maybe you should take a more of a laid back approach this time around and then maybe look at doing either less gigs so  you don't get bored of seeing all the same acts time and time again or go to different festivals that you haven't been to before or ones that have line ups that you really get excited for.

Emily said this was Saturday in the park

Oh, I knew something was happening in the Park but didn't realise it was the same day. In that case I can only think of Radiohead or Tame Impala to fill the sub spot.

  4. Is some sort of Bowie and or Prince tribute out of the question?

I know there's going to be other tributes across the festival but a prime slot for the BBC cameras would go down well. It will also please the masses waiting for Adele I reckon.

They really are superb and their harmonies are a class above. Recording their debut album over the next couple of months so will look forward to finally having some more tunes. They have been uploading various cover versions to YouTube which have all been brilliant including Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and The Beatles but this version of Sprawl by Arcade Fire is magical.

They could become very good. They have proper talent. Even 2 years ago it all looked effortless. Just hope they don't get too perfectionist. Thanks  for sharing  that video.

I'm hoping he doesn't clash with anything major on the Saturday, when he's apparently playing Avalon, as that's probably my favourite of the smaller stages.

I can see myself at Avalon a fair bit. I've got my fingers crossed for not too many horrendous clashes. I'm realistic enough to know there will be at least a few.

Tomorrow I am having a line up day, I intend on goin through everything and listening to people I haven't heard of. My biggest issue with glastonbury is I never decide what I want to do in the night time. So I always end up wondering around aimlessly. This year, I intend on changing that. And enjoying something and a venue for long enough.

So, I like anything - by that I mean I am willing to give anything a try / listen then see if I like it or not.

In a nutshell who do you recommend, artists who aren't well known in a mainstream way - your top 3 not to be missed!

    My top 3 not very commercial acts that have been announced so far are in no particular order;

    Ezra Furman

    Hinds

    Unknown Mortal Orchestra

    Top 3 who are slightly more commercial but not really Radio 1;

    Beans on Toast

    Band of Horses

    Mercury Rev

Really hoping to catch Beans on Toast this year, missed him last time. Sounds like he's probably doing a few sets this year, so surely they can't all clash with other things (naive, I know!)

I've seen him a few times and he's been very entertaining each time all for very different reasons. He's perfect for festivals and I intend on seeing him at least once at Glastonbury.

I asked Flyte on FB and they are sadly not appearing. Shame as they have been my favourite new band of the last 6 months.

I saw Flyte at Y Not festival in 2014 and although they had a technical issue at the start they were great live. Can only imagine them being so much better now.

  10. Evening all,

While @mr gumby had what sounded like a very sophisticated meal accompanied by Mr Lou Reed I have just had beans on toast while listening to Beans On Toast....  No joke either it's just what the shuffle gods did with my Glastonbury Spotify playlist.

    Still it was nice.

On the subject of pets and children, I am immensely glad I have neither. I can barely look after myself! Respect to all of you that have pets, children or both.

Really hope Yak and Black Honey are announced, probably be John Peel and I'd love it if Pete Doherty were to do a solo slot somewhere over the weekend.

All 3 would make me very happy.

But you wouldn't be back on time if the tickets went on sale at 9pm. The issue isn't whether it's online or not, it'd be the time it was on sale.

And if you have a telephone line you can still get on the internet via dial up anyway.

I think you're getting too hung up on what I'm saying. I have also said that I personally think the current system is quite fair.

Anyway the points you have made.... if tickets were available over the counter at box offices they wouldn't go on sale at 9pm or even if they were at least you would have the choice of getting to said box office and either pulling an all nighter or staying over night before getting the irregular bus back.

I don't think dial up would be anywhere near quick enough to be successful at getting tickets. I would love to be proved wrong.

Not so much, especially if people are using accepted 'correct' convention.

No, my most recent ire has been generated by the ridiculous misappropriation of terms. Slang is fine, but when an adopted meaning is diametrically opposed to a word's original meaning it makes me mad! For example, how did dank ever become a term for something that is like well good and cool, innit?

And bear for 'lots of' e.g. "arright like, look at my bear dolla"**

** "Good day, my good man. I appear to have plenty of money with me today."

    Ben

I hate it when people say 'sick' to mean good.

"This Glade line up is well sick innit."

  14. 7 hours ago, DeanoL said:

How does that work? You live somewhere without internet access and presumably you don't drive, so you can't get anywhere with internet access after 9pm. But you would somehow be able to travel miles to the nearest town to buy them in person?

From my experiences buses run even in the country until about 5pm but your stranded after then. So would be able to get a bus as long as I was back before the last bus. I did also drop in that phone lines should be used and even the most rural areas have phone lines.

  15. 9 minutes ago, musky said:

I think the luck element is kind of key to it being fair. And everyone who can go to Glastonbury can go to their nearest establishment with wifi.

To be fair if I lived out in the country, say on a farm miles from the nearest village let alone town or city and tickets went on sale at 9pm or later I would not be able to get to somewhere with wifi. If tickets were over the counter like all tickets used to be or even on phone lines for me that would be fairer. As a nation and generally as a world civilisation we rely on the internet way too much. Personally I actually think the system is fair enough but maybe that's because I know how to press f5, know how to copy and paste, use the internet, have good reliable internet and can call on enough people to help me out but for someone like my dad who has unreliable internet connection and has fat finger syndrome it's unfair as he then has to rely on me to get him tickets.

I noticed that the first year they started to sell tickets online was the very first year people started to have problems getting tickets, the year before that I went to a ticket shop in bristol with cash and bought whatever number you could buy at one time, I think about 4 tickets . there was no queue although a tiny build up of people started after me I was there when the tickets first went on sale . I would like to go back to ticket shops and queues and cash money, none of this computer stuff .

I think queue's are fairer to the people who really want to go . For kate bush's last night I went the day before the last night at 4 o' clock and was willing to queue all night, I would do that for any performance I really wanted to see

Exactly what I think. We are British for crying out loud we love queing and we do it properly! ;)

As soon as bookings go online that's when problems start because it's all down to luck. Why should someone miss out just because they live some with crap WiFi or even worse mobile signal.

Everyone who can go to Glastonbury can go to a shop.

  17. Beck is 1 artist that could go on so many different stages at so many different times of day. Pyramid, Other, JP, Park or West Holt's are all possible stages he could play. One thing is for sure I'm anxiously looking forward to the stage splits. The line up is too hard to guess where acts might be playing.

  18. That does look like Tame Impala will be there. Where they play I don't know, either before or after Foals makes most sense to me although it could be Park or even a massive booking for John Peel stage. To be honest I don't care where they play (assuming they do play) as long as they play and we all know about it is all that matters.

    Hi all

@ourkid1984 - traffic will be a breeze and you'll not queue and, as people say, there'll be plenty of room. How exciting!

I have to say that, for whatever reason, my 'proper' Glastonbury obsession has kicked in just this evening. I mean, I was already thinking about it and excited of course...but tonight my real GF fever has started.

That will now mean that I will think about almost nothing else for the next 5 weeks, and need to be mindful not to mention it all the time at home, for fear of making everyone (even more!) fed up with me.

know it's started because I am feeling that genuine frustration at not having the full line-up, so I can begin the military operation that is planning my festival.

When I think about 'other' festivals, they are a breeze to plan in comparison. You usually know the running order at least several weeks beforehand and, using the pretty consistent stage times from previous years, you can therefore populate a 99% accurate clashfinder....containing only 4-5 stages! Glastonbury? I can't even look at the clashfinder as it's too huge to manage. So I create a sheet for each day with hour sections and go through every aspect of the Beast, populating it as closely as I can. That takes forever!!

In summary, I need the frickin' full line-up toot sweet please, Emily!

    :)

    Ben

Like you Ben my obsession has gone in overdrive today brought on by boredom of being home and unwell and also knowing I now have no big plans until Glastonbury so just wanna completely concentrate on my plans for the festival and yes it's exciting!

    Hello ourkid!

Hope you feel better soon, hot bath and a medicinal whiskey, perhaps? Glad you managed to hang in there to be best man!!

3pm Thursday isn't the greatest, but if you're near me (which I think you are?) you should be on site in time for tea! :)

    Hi Lucy,

Yeah judged on your reports of the firework display and other comments I reckon I am about a 5 minute drive from you. I'm thinking the traffic will be a lot better at that time anyway and questions to get in will be less stressful. So I'm not too upset about it after being convinced that there will be plenty of room.

The whiskey has been drunk but I only have a shower so that had to do! It's my dads go to remedy for any illness so he forced me to do it :)

I'm hoping to still make the meet even if we are a little late.

  21. Afternoon all,

I've had a lovely weekend as it was my brothers wedding in which I was the best man. The weather gods shone for us on the day and it was a good day all round. Sunday was also good seeing my Scottish cousins before they made their 10 hour journey home and then going to the in-laws for some nice food and good company.

The whole weekend was nice but very tiring as I've had the flu for about a week and Saturday was the day it decided to be at its worse. Off work today but seem to be getting better so hoping to return to work tomorrow (I know I generally love my job).

Just seen my coach times to get to Glastonbury and because I have Thursday tickets I'm not all that happy as the coach don't leave until 1500 which is disappointing because I was hoping to use the day on Thursday to explore a bit before really getting stuck in from Friday. Anyway stop ranting I'm happy that I even have tickets.

I arrived about 4pm Thursday last year and Pylons camping area had loads of room. Never camped there before, but glad I did, was happy with the location. Dont worry about your return coach time - you should be able to get on an earlier one. Pylons is quite close to the coach drop off too.

I'm hoping for either Pylons or Darble. At those times I can't see us getting in until well after 6 though. So hoping there will still be room.

The coach back should be easy enough to get a seat on an earlier one, the coach there would be impossible to get changed as your tickets are on the coach.

I thought I read somewhere that someone had been successful in contacting SEE and changing their departure coach time. Maybe I was just imagining it though as I'm struggling to function at the moment with flu.

  23. I've just checked mine from Southampton is 1500 on Thursday and 1530 on Monday. I'm going to ask them for earlier coach times for sure. Will there be any room camping? We have a 6 man tent. Doh!
