When did this forum become so bloody reasonable and level headed?? haha

Hahaha. To be fair most on here are level headed. Can completely relate to people getting over passionate and enthusiastic, especially when it comes to music or festivals. In real life I don't know when to shut up talking about music and festivals.

Haha im toying with it... do we want to open that can of worms??? Im not sure im prepared for the back lash...

I'm with you here. I often think about posting then worry about potential backlash just for having a different opinion.

I like Stormzy, seen him twice and he puts on a good show. I think he is a risky but good choice for the festival. Can I think of plenty of better headliners who I would enjoy more? Yes of course and most people on here could if they were honest, I mean the last few pages is people admitting he's not their kind of thing.

  3. IF and it's a big IF the headliners are Stormzy, The Cure and McCartney then I think that's pretty decent.

I've seen on here loads of times people asking for a risky headliner and also to give a younger act a step up so Stormzy covers that.

The Cure have probably got more popular for their live performances since the last time they played Glastonbury so deserve another go.

And well how many more times are we going to get to see the living legend Paul McCartney live.

I'm with you Ben! Anywhere else on the line-up and he's a 'fun' 90 minutes. Bit of Oasis nostalgia and some of his solo stuff. It's not headliner material for me. That's not to say he's not headliner status but subbing someone like Macca would be a good fit.

That's exactly what I think. I saw him at Sziget this year and it was great but no more than pyramid sub or smaller stage headliner.

I had a guy at Rolling Blackouts the other night just gradually drift sideways until he was right in front of me with about a 6 inch gap.  It was only during the support act, and I could see he was gradually drifting out of the orbit of three very pissed dancers, but there was sooo much room he could have gone literally anywhere! Like, so much rom that didn't involve being that close to anyone!

It was a toss up between asking him to move or just standing my ground and pretty much breathing into his ear until he moved on. I opted for the latter

Breathing in the ear ? I hope they moved.

Grrrrrr!  That always winds me up.  The advantage I've got in that is that I'm quite able (and happy!) to plant my feet and just not move when you see one coming. If people are actually asking to squeeze through then I'm happy to move, but 99% of the time trying to bulldoze through doesn't generally work with me :D

The other one I'd add to that is people squeezing through a gap, ostensibly to move through the crowd, and then stopping in the tiny-non-gap you just created for them to move through.  THAT'S NOT HOW THIS WORKS!!!!!

Yeah I am fairly slim but have built up strategies to ensure that I make it at least a little harder for them to get through.

The fake gap is excruciatingly annoying and have been known to purposely dance a little harder than normal just to remind them that I'm still there. After that they often move on.

Firstly, good for you for intervening, if it were me then it would have been welcome. Though I would probably just have moved carriages myself and just felt annoyed the whole day. Not a criticism here, but maybe if you had asked her if she would like you to say something then that gives her the control over her own situation.

Or the other way of looking at it was if those lads hadn't acted in that manner, she still would have gone about her day happily, and you would have had no aggro.

I agree we are a long way from having the right balance. The article below, whilst lengthy, is interesting when we consider the generational differences that have been mentioned a couple of times in this thread.

In better circumstances I would of asked her. I stepped in a bit too soon I think but I think I did that as they had moreless surrounded her.

Thanks for that article. I found it interesting and actually makes sense to what's happening currently. Personally I prefer collective action but whatever works I suppose.

  8. I was on a train about a year ago and 3 drunk 'lads' started to say all sorts of sexist language to a woman who was on her own. They all took their turns to tell her how good looking she was and how she would "get it". I stepped in and told them they were out of order. To my disbelief she told me to mind my own business and that she quite liked what they were saying. The 'lads' all started being aggressive towards me to the point I had to leave the carriage.

I know that this is extreme and rare but with that and the almost daily anti feminist stuff I see shared on social media (by women as well as men), I can see why some men think that some of this behaviour is fine and I see this as proof that there is still a very long way to go for equality.

In terms of the actual topic I would like to see no more long chains of people shoving their way to the front without so much as a excuse me. This seems to be getting worse not just at Glastonbury but other festivals and gigs as well.

  9. I went by coach from Southampton in 2016 and seem to remember the coach going at about 9am from just down the road from Southampton Central train station so if that's still the case then you would need to allow travel time from Southampton Airport Parkway. We had a return time but I remember quite a few people getting on earlier or later coaches.

That assumes every other person who bought her last album will buy a ticket to one of her gigs. Seems a stretch to me.

Based on the album sales it would require just over half of the people who purchased her last album to go and see her. That's not so ambitious. Then there's the people who will go to get a name ticked off bucket lists and those poor souls who will get dragged along with partners.

Stormzy - Rumoured, but only has 1 album.
Mumford & Sons - Rumoured by 2 separate efesters, but are they still relevant?

I saw both at Sziget this year. I know it's a different country and all that but both drew big crowds.

Stormzy was early on the main stage during a day where people including myself was still arriving. We went still with our bags. I can only imagine he would of been booked for headliner if he guaranteed that a new album would be out, even then unlikely but wouldn't rule out headlining another stage or subbing.

Mumford and Sons headlined the main stage and it was rammed where I was. The new songs went down well and obviously still relevant with decent radio airplay and new album out.

  12. Going back to the original question.

Yeah Tories are welcome just like anyone else. The way I see it is it's similar to a Labour voter going to somewhere like Henley rowing regatta or any sailing race/regatta or from one of my own personal experiences, the Royal Windsor Polo. You're welcome but you may see or hear things you feel uncomfortable about or disagree with. Its not like you would imagine anything different.

  13. I love the wild speculation on here. Acts both being considered and ruled out just on hearsay. Let's face it even acts that have shows elsewhere on the same weekend can't be completely ruled out.

I think they will probably follow a similar pattern to previous years, a modern pop act/hip hop/urban, a Glastonbury favourite and an act that are fully established but also still current.

With that in mind I think any 3 of,  Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Stormzy, The Cure, Mumford and Sons, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Killers or Paul McCartney.

My guess from those would be Lady Gaga, Mumford and Sons and Paul McCartney.

  14. I'm so pleased for anyone who manages to go. I've only gone once before in 2016. Although I am gutted I didn't even try before then even with years of watching and listening to coverage and wanting to go I am so happy to have gone once and even happier that I'm going again next year.

My 1st ever festival was IOW the year Travis replaced Morrissey and apart from seeing some decent bands and having good memories with mates I didn't really enjoy it anywhere near as much as I had hoped. I didn't go to any other festival for a few years and then decided to try Rock Wertcher. Went back there a few times after that gave me love for festival's and then continued to go to a few other European festivals. Started to reconsider smaller British festivals so went to a few and loved those as well. On here I remember reading that Sziget was the European equivalent to Glastonbury so went there, had a great time and so decided I had to go to Glastonbury.

In the meantime my dad had never been to a festival but had always wanted to go to Glastonbury. I used that as an excuse to go and first year of trying went with my dad and my girlfriend (now wife). Went by coach on the Thursday and was anxious hearing all the reports about the state of the ground and time getting in. The anxiety went as soon as I had my first sighting of the festival. The journey that took longer than most of our travels to European festivals all seemed worth it. My dad who is in is mid 50's wants to go to as many as he can and completely hooked, was gutted when we missed out last year but was still just as delighted to have been once.

In hindsight I think I went first time as the right time for me as before going to Sziget I was mainly just interested in going to festivals for the music so when I went to Glastonbury I had learned to not worry about missing something if I'm enjoying doing something else. Other festivals have great things about them but combined nothing is as good as Glastonbury so no wonder more and more people are desperate to go.

  15. I said that I'd been lucky in getting tickets on Facebook and someone replied "I hope it pisses down all weekend and there is a outbreak of the bubonic plague"

Not sure if it was meant to be a joke or not but not a great joke if it was.

My predictions for this year from December 2017? Posted December 2, 2017- I would live to see Arcade Fire/QOTSA/Gorillaz/Noel or Liam. I can also see a Scottish act like Franz or Snow Patrol as they are in Europe in the summer. Maybe further down a few acts like D Bryne/Thiefs/Wolf Alice/Stormzy or Tiny  and a few dance acts like Avici/Diplo headlining a few nights.  Florance for the opening night

Sorry to be pedantic but Snow Patrol are Irish.?
