There is no way Glastonbury could afford GnR.

Same has been said for Fleetwood Mac and even the strokes but they're both apparently in the running. I don't think it will happen but stranger headliners have been booked.

Awesome, as a 25 year old I was one of the youngest there, proper '6music' crowd.

Can see them slotting into any of JPT, WG & Park - probably the former two more likely

Ireland has a great scene at the moment, Fonts (Mayo & Dub), Murder Capital (Dub), Just Mustard (Dundalk) & The Cosmics (Donegal) check them all out online.

When I saw them it was a very mixed crowd. There was an equal amount of people in their 20's as there were 40+. I imagine a JPT set seems most likely. Thanks for the recommendation. I have heard of just mustard and murder capital before but the others are now on my radar.

  3. Album - IDLES

Song - Jack in Titanic by Bodega

Gig - Courtney Barnett in Bristol

Festival - Sziget festival (best festival apart from Glastonbury)

Movie - haven't watched any new films this year

    Book - Colour of time

Favourite efester - I'm impressed by the dedication of many regular posters

Did you miss Glastonbury? Yeah but I miss every good festival that I don't manage to go to

    Three wishes for Glastonbury -

See more of the site late at night/early morning

For the weather to be decent

To make the most of the Wednesday

Festivals lined up for 2019 - Glastonbury but may also sneak in a small festival at the end of the festival season

Actually, so far they're the biggest name they have by far and also the performance was billed as exclusive in the Iberian Peninsula so probably big money was thrown.

Looking at the line up I would of thought they were the biggest name announced so far but the poster don't really do anything to suggest that they're some massive headliner type act that they've spent lots of money on. I would say it's more likely that they've done some sort of deal by having the Voidz as well. I know the area have now got some decent sized festivals and a half decent music scene but to be an Iberian peninsula exclusive surely doesn't mean big money.

I'm not saying this news means they're nailed on just saying this shows that if Glastonbury want them they could do and it wouldn't necessarily break the bank.

As much as I love The Strokes they are all about the money which by most people's accounts is the only reason why they continue to play together, cannot see any chance of them at Glastonbury, certainly not as a secret set anyway.

If they were to headline their time has passed, and I just can't see them accepting a sub slot or that sort of money. Their complete failure to sell tickets for BST in 2015 is testament to where they stand. Imagine they'd be a great APE  booking if they stick on a solid indie undercard to go with it.

If Bilbao BBK live can get them and seemingly not as a huge headliner type act then surely Glastonbury can get them without anywhere near breaking the bank. I know they have apparently asked for big money previously but doesn't necessarily mean that's the type of money they ask for now.

This announcement has at least gave a little more hope that they might play.

  6. I think I've made my mind up so here goes in no particular order although top would be IDLES, Bodega, Arctic monkeys, Sunflower bean, , and Frank Turner;

Arctic monkeys - Tranquility base hotel and casino

Frank Turner - Be more kind

IDLES - Joy as an act of resistance

    Shame - Songs of Praise

Sean McGowan - Son of a Smith

Courtney Barnett - Tell me how you really feel

    Goat Girl - Goat Girl

    Isaac Gracie - Isaac Gracie

    Hinds - I don't run

Sunflower Bean - Twentytwo in blue

Will Varley - Spirit of Minnie

    Bodega - Endless scroll

    Fenne Lily - On Hold

The Lemon Twigs - Go to school

    Paul Weller - True Meanings

The Goon Sax - We're not talking

    Parquet Courts - Wide awake

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - Hope Downs

The Beth's - Future me hates me

Kurt Vile - Bottle it in

Hah, there's definitely a crazy aspect about it and it goes some way to explaining how I ended up going 15 years without leaving the country..

That's an amazing offer to a complete strange, thanks. I'd probably never use it anyway ?

Over on Manics facebook groups and shit people moan that they don't mix their sets up enough. Course I'd love em to mix em up a bit more but I don't think they do too badly really. Alright, it's an album tour next but next time I see em I'm guaranteed to see at least four songs I've not seen before out of the nearly 70 times I've seen em..

That's one thing I think Manics are sods for. I get the impression from interviews and documentaries and shit that when they're doing arenas they'd rather be doing academies, and when they're doing academies they'd rather be doing arenas. I think they've done it a few times when they've made a conscious effort to try to alienate the mainstream.. Following Everything Must Go with This Is My Truth.. yeah, it's got a couple of the radio friendly hits on there, but particularly the second half of the album, it's quite sparse and even experimental in places. Think by the time Know Your Enemy came around they'd already been too big for their own comfort, "success is an ugly word" eh? That and Lifeblood certainly slammed on the brakes. I hope, and wouldn't be surprised if the next album is raw dumb punk. Saw em in Cardiff a few months back and they covered No Feelings by Sex Pistols, looked like the most fun they'd had on stage in ages.

Oh aye, that was a great night. My first time at the o2 and was pleasantly surprised.

For every act there's a bunch of fans that want a more varied setlist than the act play. It's probably the hardest things for established acts to get right.

I'm going through a bit of a sort out at the moment so if I came across it I'll probably just bin it so might as well go to someone who might use it, even if it is just once.

I think they like the intimate nature of academies but also like arenas and bigger shows so they can be extravagant.

I'm hopeful for a punky album from them and maybe they've been influenced by all of the political punk influenced bands about at the moment.

Yeah, I don't even want to think about how much I've spent following them around and buying their stuff.. got over 600 recordings, not sure I'll ever found out how The Holy Bible sounds on minidisc though..

Oh yeah, there's no chance of em not doing Motorcycle Emptiness and You Love Us, they've both been at every regular and festival gig since 1992 lol. I've seen em three times not doing Motorcycle and twice not doing You Love Us though, but they were special gigs..

Forever Heavenly at Royal Festival Hall, London

National Treasures acoustic promo gig thing at Manchester Night and Day

Futurology launch gig at Rough Trade in London

I think it makes sense that they'll be there this time, I'm glad they're not such primadonnas about where they go on the lineup. I dunno, I get the feeling if the likes of Radiohead, Oasis, Blur etc who'd all been peaking around the same time had toured as extensively as Manics have since their commercial peaks, I can't imagine them taking too kindly to slipping down the lineups or doing academies rather than arenas. Wonder if Manics would still be major festival headline material had they taken a bit longer between tours. Just checked Setlist.fm, Radiohead have done a dozen UK gigs this decade including festivals and one offs, Manics have doubled that this year. Would quite happily never see em do an arena again, mind.

You have about half my music collection in just Manics stuff that is hard to fathom, crazy and brilliant all at the same time.

I had a mini disc player. I don't think I got rid of it if I find it I'll be happy to send it your way.

I like that they seem to mix up their setlists regular enough and thankfully there's only a few songs that are like staples of the Manics live set.

I would be surprised if they wasn't at Glastonbury next year.

I think when bands reach a certain popularity they tend to choose 1 of 2 options, play academies and play very regular with the odd 'special' arena or outdoor gig or play arenas and outdoor gigs but play less often and occasionally play 'special' small shows. I think the Manics have tried both but seem to prefer playing smaller shows.

I have to admit one of my favourite Manics gigs was when they played all their singles at the O2 but I think that helped as I was in the standing area and also the relentlessness of the set.

  9. Because I love the Idles daily Haiku on Twitter. I thought I'd do one for the current state of affairs with the headliners. So here goes;

    Friday is Stormzy
    Macca apparently no
    The Cure are nailed on?

For what it's worth I think Macca is going to be headlining 2019.

I love em, they're my favourite band and seen em about 70 times but for me the last album was their worst. They do tend to drop their previous album like a hot rock whatever they do though. I remember seeing em one night towards the end of the Postcards From A Young Man tour when they did more songs from Everything Must Go than the album they were supposed to be promoting.. Resistance Is Futile is the album of theirs that's been least represented on its own tour. I went to three nights and they only played 6 different songs off it over the full tour, averaging four or five a night with a little bit of chopping and changing. Whether that's a reflection of their own feelings towards the album, or it could be the fact that the back catalogue is getting longer without sets getting longer and they feel there's so much stuff they can't leave out.. Wouldn't mind seeing em drop Motorcycle Emptiness or You Love Us for summat else.. I love This Is My Truth, going to four gigs for the tour and can't wait. Really not sure how the album goes down with less obsessive types these days though. Well, it's a charity shop and Cash Converters staple.

Anyway yeah, I'm leaning towards expecting em to be there this time. They've done 94, 99, 03, 07 and 14.. 5 year gap's about right for them. I don't think Other headliner would be right either, don't think they're any more popular than they were last time? I'd quite like em to starting around 4-6ish on the Pyramid and think that's feasible.. Been a fairly gradual decline on the lineup since headlining.. Yeah, I reckon either 4-6ish Pyramid, 6-8ish Other or headline Park.

Got Truth with a fortnight's paper round money when I wor a lad.. Just stuck it on now. I like about half of Resistance Is Futile, I'd probably be happier with it if I band I like rather than my favourite band came out with it.. Didn't stop me buying the fucker on red, white and black vinyl and cassette though, did it? ?

Flipping hell I thought I loved the Manics but that is brilliant. 3 versions of the same record and on cassette.

Although I love Motorcycle Emptiness and You Love Us I get your point about them. I can't see them dropping either for festival's though. I can see them doing a mid afternoon slot on the Pyramid or 1 of 2 slots on the Other either Friday opener or subbing.

  11. I got into music at a very young age. I remember loving being close to the speakers at family parties and watching bands at my local British Legion play music from the 50's, 60's and 80's.

I used to like most of my dad's record collection (The Jam, Sex Pistols, The Who, Queen, X Ray Specs) and hate my mum's record collection (Cliff Richard, Bay City Rollers, Shawaddywaddy).

I took influence from my dad and listened to the radio into the early hours of the morning and by 10 was loving Britpop and other similar sounds. My 1st album I bought was Definitely Maybe.

Since then I have listened and enjoyed a much wider variety of music by going through festival line ups, reading reviews, using Spotify and going to lots of gigs and indie nightclubs.

I've never really liked manufactured pop, drum and bass techno, edm or Eminem era hip hop. There's plenty of acts that I don't like that would fit in genres I usually like and that could be anything really from the singers voice to whether I think they are bad live. Sometimes I can't pinpoint why I don't like an act or why I do.

Shame were good on Friday but HMLTD supporting were one of the most entertaining bands I've seen this year.

Batshit crazy sounding like an angry Adam and the Ants one song, then song that had Rammstein vibes followed by the kind of Rock/Dubstep hybrid that Muse felt like they were going for a few terrible albums ago.

Listening to them on Spotify today and a bit underwhelmed but I highly recommend checking them out live.

Exactly how I felt about them. Thought all 3 acts were very good on Friday.

probably a bit late to the party, but please to God get these on the JPT - been blowing my nips off the last few months

I think these are good. Saw them supporting Shame and were excellent. I would imagine there will be loads of bands with a similar sound over the weekend.

Unlikely I'd say but you could argue he fits in with the vague hints given on Twitter. My thought with Dlyan is if they wanted him, and he wanted to do it, it would have happened already though.

Yeah I'm surprised he's never did it before but fitting with the 2 blokes comment I can't think of many others that would be in a similar vain to Macca (not that it has to).

I still think it's going to be Macca though.

Fair, well, I should then say that I enjoy it pissing off Oasis fans, and people that think the Glastonbury headline slot is sacred and should be guitar based.

Well you will be gutted to know that I'm an Oasis fan and know other Oasis fans that feel the booking of Stormzy is a good one.

Just because Noel Gallagher doesn't like Glastonbury headliners if they aren't guitar based doesn't mean all fans of his music agree.

Would he get a small crowd? The 16 -20 year old demographic isn't as well represented at Glastonbury as it would be at most other big festivals like R&L or whatever.

Granted he has a large fan base of 16-20 year olds but my experiences of seeing him live (2 festivals) has been the majority of the crowd were closer to 25-35. I don't think he will get a massive crowd but I also don't think it will be small, especially if his new album is a hit.

  17. Yeah I use Clashfinder and use colours to determine the level I want to see an act but also consider where I am likely to be before and after and who I am with.

Yeah I generally stick to it but have learned not to worry too much about missing something.

I don't do much discovering at a festival unless I find myself chilling out somewhere and happen to like the music or act that is on closest to me.

I find out about new acts through streaming services, gigs, radio, record shops, reviews, online forums, social media and by exploring festival line ups.

Is that the consensus? I saw them twice in about 2008 and really didn't enjoy it - I enjoy their hits but not beyond that and these seemed occasional in their setlist mixed in with slower songs I personally found a bit boring (though I'm sure fans loved). I ended up watching them again in 2013 because others wanted to and enjoyed it a bit more. Not so much I would see them as a Glastonbury headliner though, unless they've become a bit more festival friendly..?

I'm not really sure to be honest. My comment is based on how many festivals and large concerts they do and when it comes to concerts how often they sell out. I went to a new bands gig the other week, one band were teenagers and all of them loved the Cure. I kind of see them as like bands of the late 70's that my dad loved that I and all my friends then went onto love. Every 10 years or so a wave of older bands get a boost in popularity and I suppose it's the cures time.
