  1. Now I might be way off here but is there no possibility of Radiohead either subbing any of the headliners as weird as that would seem or even being a other stage headliner?

The only day I could of previously seen Radiohead as a headliner is the Friday and now Muse (a band that has sold less than Radiohead) are playing that slot. I can't see Radiohead being big enough for the Saturday headliner but for a lot of people would be a great alternative to Adele on the other stage.

Surely that arrangement would be better for them than a secret slot somewhere.

Or possibly as part of a Bowie tribute ;)

It's all in jest. People are disappointed that certain acts appear not to be headlining and that Musr and Coldplay are, but I don't think anybody's genuinely sitting at home sulking. We're all smart enough to know there's a plethora of stuff on offer at our beloved festival

I think it is jest for most people but I wouldn't discount that some people are serious. You can tell by the way they "drone" on. :)

  3. Lol I hate Muse but not really crying at the fact they're headlining. There will be plenty more to see. And it's not like it wasn't obvious it was going to be them.

I still think the final headliner will be a little surprise. Don't have anyone in mind but it's just a gut feeling I have . I don't like Radiohead or Adele either but if they're announced I still won't throw my toys out of the pram like some of you are.

  4. I see the Mystery Jets are a TBC. Do people think they would play John Peel stage and if so are they big enough to headline?

I love them and think they fit in best when headlining but am I imagining that they are big enough to headline?

  5. Not that it counts for much but I saw Foals and Ellie Goulding at Sziget last year and Ellie Gouldings crowd was slightly bigger but not massively different. I'm always surprised by the amount of people that not only know the Foals but love them. I think they're good and great live but they are surprisingly popular. I think they deserve to be at least subbing.

Ellie Goulding is big enough to sub although I found her a bit dull and I'm a Coldplay fan!

  6. I'm massively excited about my first Glastonbury and as it won't be long before we hear the majority of the line up I'm wondering whether people can list all the organisations that organise a bit of the festival with website and social media links? It would be really good to see who is responsible for particular parts of the line up and easier to see who is actually playing.

  7. For a festival like Glastonbury surely it doesn't matter about who headlines and who sub. What actually matters is who plays and even that doesn't massively matter as it always sells out before anyone is confirmed so Glastonbury could have pj and Duncan headline and everyone would still turn up..... Imagine that.

Seriously though if Glastonbury can book bigger bands/acts than the likes of Foals then why wouldn't they and therefore why wouldn't they headline?

I'm a bigger fan of Foals than Radiohead, Muse or Adele but can still see why they should headline over Foals.

I have an idea that an act that hasn't been too strongly rumoured might fill a headliner spot. I don't have any inside knowledge or anything but just find it funny that people assume that it's without doubt between Muse, Radiohead and Adele like Glastonbury has never spun the odd surprise.

I fear you may have missed the point not only of this thread, but of this whole forum!  Do you have an alternative suggestion for passing these dark winter months?

Very true. I like speculating about acts that might play but don't get the aggressive nature of some people when talking about bands at festivals.

  9. I don't really care for any of the remaining rumoured headliners. Loved Radiohead's early stuff until OK computer. Muse I have never understood why they are so popular and Adele is just a bit boring. However if they are all announced it wouldn't bother me. I don't get why people going to a festival with so much on are worried about headliners of 1 stage.

Personally I think and hope there might be a surprise headliner that hasn't been talked about much. It's madness that people are arguing about acts that may even not be at Glastonbury.  At the same time I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if Radiohead, Muse and Adele played as they're just 3 acts of thousands playing.

Cheer up people let's wait until April to make up our minds on the line up.

  10. I like going to Y Not festival as a mid sized add on. I like the size and the atmosphere. Think the price is good especially for the line up. They normally have very similar line up as Kendal but its cheaper. It's family friendly and there's other things to do then just the music.

I went to Sziget this year as well and it was just amazing. I fully recommend other people to go, so much to see and do.

Other European festivals to try would be Rock Werchter, Pukklepop and Southside in Germany. None of them have much to do apart from music but I have never been bored and the atmosphere is really good with them all.

I've never been to Latitude or bestival but I've heard time and time again that they are the most similar to Glastonbury.

  11. I think we have decided on going for any of the Worthy View accommodation that have already set up beds. If we can't get any of them then we will camp. Neither myself or my dad have issues camping its just my girlfriend that isn't too keen and obviously she's the boss.

I have to say the help and advice on here has been brilliant so thanks. I feel like I already have a good idea of where to camp if that is what we do.

  12. Thanks for all your advice. For this years festival I saw some accommodation that looked like sheds with bunk beds in them. They seemed like they would be ideal and they were about £600 for 3 people from what I recall. If we can't get something like that then we won't bother with Worthy View.

I was thinking about hiring a campervan but I can't seem to find any that are less than £600 and we also have already paid for coach travel. And as far as I know Glastonbury don't have onsite caravans that you can hire so as I see it there's only Worthy View or the tipis as alternative accommodation so maybe it might be worth looking at the tipis or trying to convince the other half to do standard camping.

Either way I won't let anything including my dodgy back ruin my 1st Glastonbury.

  13. In 2015, there was a coach shuttle service that ran from the Festival Coach Station to Worthy View - there's no guarantees that it'll run again this year, but I would think that it's fairly likely.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for any news on shuttle buses. Am I right in thinking its about a 30-40 minute walk from there to Worthy View if no shuttle bus is running?

  14. Unless there is some specific reason I'd seriously advise against staying at Worthy View, especially for your first Glastonbury. You owe it to yourself to give the main camping a go first, it's honestly so much better being in the main site.

2 reasons why we have chose to go and stay at Worthy View. Most importantly I'm going with my dad and we bother suffer with bad backs, walking and for the most part standing is fine but anymore than 3 days and my back starts to suffer. The 2nd reason is as we're arriving on the Thursday we are worried about getting a good camping spot as everyone we know who has been before has advised not to camp if arriving on the Thursday.

Oh and I suppose the 3rd reason is I'm also going with my girlfriend who since we stayed in a caravan at the brilliant Sziget festival refuses to do anything less than clamping and of course she's the boss ;)

  15. I'm going to my first Glastonbury and very excited. We are hoping to stay at Worthy View but have got the coach package. We are arriving on the Thursday but have seen that the entrance for Worthy View is different to where the coach drops people off.

I'm wondering what the easiest way of getting to Worthy View is once we have been dropped off and as we are arriving on Thursday will we have pre designated accommodation or just what's left?

    Thanks

  16. The caravan price was split between between the amount of people staying in it rather than per person so the extra cost wasn't too bad. They were hot at about 1pm in the day for a hour or 2 but it wasn't too bad especially with windows or the door open. I found the extra comfort compared to camping made it easier to sleep especially for me as I'm a really light sleeper and I managed to sleep every time I tried to sleep. Having electric in the caravan was a real bonus as well.

I saw Jungle as well and although we were right at the front we were too close to the speakers and so the bass sounded too heavy but I also thought they were better live than I expected.

  17. I stayed in a caravan in the VIP area and thought the actual camping looked quite shady and a fair amount of room between tents although some was closer than others but that might of been due to choice.

I normally struggle to sleep if there's too much noise but I managed to sleep OK. I would say most of the noise stopped at around 4am and I wouldn't normally hear any music until soundchecks at around 11am.

The VIP camping area was well worth it in my opinion and I think the only other way I could do Sziget would be to stay in a hotel.

  18. My first day back to work today since Sziget and although I love my job dam I miss Sziget!

It was my first time there and can't find a noteworthy issue with it. The line up was good enough for me. I don't think I could of seen more bands not in that heat. It was the only festival that I've been to where I was more happy to sit back and chill then get near the front. Having said that my favourite acts were, Florence and the machine, Maccabees, Interpol, Gaslight Anthem, Kings of Leon, Kasabian, Gogol Bordello, Paloma Faith, Dropkick Murphy's, Passenger, Alt J, Turreante Jones, Horrors, Subways and Rudimental.

A major highlight for me was having a drink 50 metres up, looking at the festival from that height in the dark with all the lights on while Limp Bizkit were on. I'm not even a fan of the Bizkit but they do hold some memories for me from my teenage years and then to get back to the crowd in time for their last song was epic.

Other non music highlights for me were looking around the art area and sitting on the rocking seats, watching a fire show, the Luminarium, watching a play and a circus act. Also the old school fair ground area and the Hungarian village area was pretty cool. I liked the beach area although the music wasn't to my taste.

I think the ruin pub area by the main stage was a good spot to chill while listening to main stage acts and I was lucky enough to chill in the VIP area. I saw quite a lot of good stuff at the Europe stage and the Blues Irish stage.

I stayed in a caravan in the VIP camping area and although basic it was well worth the extra money and I thought the VIP camping area was well run and toilets and showers were well looked after.

The price of food was decent and I didn't have a bad meal although I did see a few people eating dodgy looking food. My personal favourites were the massive kebab meal, the Mexican food, spicy chicken and rice and this vanilla pastry tube thing. The beers were OK, unicum was rank but the cocktails were nice and strong and service was fairly quick for both food and drink.

I loved visiting Budapest tgr 2 times I managed it. The parliment building is impressive and the square where the wheel was was nice and a particular highlight for me was the ruin pubs. The city is so easy to get around and clean.

For a fairly big site I didn't find it too hard to walk from one place to another and the atmosphere was good and it all seemed really well organised. Getting back to the airport for a 6am flight was easy.

I've been to Isle of Wight, Y Not, Rock Werchter, Pukklepop and Southside and Sziget beat all of them. It just has enough of everything. I will be returning at some point, I have a few more festivals to tick off but can't see many being able to beat Sziget for overall enjoyment.

Just one more thing to say RIP to the man who lost his life on the last day.

  19. My 2nd time in a row and loved it again.

Last year I went with my girlfriend so had a slightly quieter one but this year I went with 2 friends and had a manic time reminding me of being back in my teens/ early 20's but in a good way.

I always found the toilets respectable and mostly clean although there did seem like less.

The food was about as good as last year although I did find the Katsu curry was amazing and the pasta very poor.

Where we were in the campsite (rock and roll I think, not far from the water tap) was quality atmosphere. Yeah there was a few too many youngsters drinking too much or doing too much drugs but it all seemed good natured. We also met 3 people from Manchester who were sound and a good laugh.

I found the atmosphere in the festival site also generally good natured and a fair amount of space at each stage and we managed to get in there each time with cans of larger and we didn't get searched once and didn't see many people getting searched too bad.

As far as bands went I loved Best Friends, Vant, Tellison, Slaves, Ash, Beans on Toast, Genghar, Johnny Marr, Brawlers, Less than Jake, We are Scientists and especially Ocean Colour Scene. I have to say I was disappointed with Super Furry Animals and Primal Scream, I think they took too long to play their more upbeat songs and hits and Primal Scream were quiet. Snoop Dog was quality comedy genius.

Overall I am more than happy to go back again next year. The bands that they get and the amount of them they get is brilliant for the price. I live down south and find it easy to get to and home and I would give it a 8/10.
