This is a long shot, I know. But Kate Bush just announced a re-release of Hounds of Love, her entire website has been revamped, and there’s a new mailing list.
If she returns to live music, could the legends slot at Glastonbury be possible? 🤔
No chance whatsoever. The notes in the Before The Dawn programme show how painstakingly she planned those shows. She considered lots of venues, including arenas, before deciding the Apollo was perfect for what she had planned. And the production was more like a west end show than a regular gig. In the unlikely event of her performing again, I can’t see her playing before a festival audience, belting out Wuthering Heights and other early stuff that she’d probably struggle to sing these days

and lets not forget...he played Sun City during apartheid.
He'd be able to reminisce about it with Elton, who also played there. As did Dolly and countless others.

i've seen both and can guarantee you're wrong.
I've seen both too, and disagree. Whereas Rod was, and would be, an underwhelming headliner, he's the perfect fit for the legend slot. Lots of cheesy bangers of different tempos; arms in the air singalongs to Sailing, through to a bit of disco with Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, and a few rockers too. Bring on Ronnie for Stay With Me.
I remember leaving the venue in October having just watched Roxy and having a discussion with Mrs b about the fact that they were really great live, but would be much suited headlining another stage rather than baffling a Sunday afternoon Pyramid crowd with In Every Dream Home a Heartache and The Bogus Man. There's no sign of any further Roxy activity since the autumn tour, so I'm not hopeful they'll play at all.

Sorry if this is a bit random, is there a reason people don’t think Harry Styles can sub Elton, a friend has been told this was happening but I have it in my head that it wasn’t possible but his tour dates seem to be free
Harry Styles is probably the most popular male performer anywhere right now. His stadium shows sell out in no time. Maybe though he could come on as a guest during Reg’s set (waiting for @Gnomicide to say he can’t as he’s in Czech Republic that night)

His canon of work speaks for itself. Up there with the greatest songwriters.

I think they're claiming Fogerty as a festival exclusive which is more than a bit of a bugger.
Hopefully it’s an Isle of Lewis festival exclusive

I would bet most People only knew 4 Dolly songs before that set and yet…
Exactly.
And if you can name only 4 or 5 Rod songs, you’ll probably be surprised how many you recognise come the time.

Yeah, I’m expecting Madge to do a run of outdoor shows next year. Can’t imagine her just doing a handful of dates at the O2 on this tour

I hadn’t thought of Blondie.. definitely legends, loads of great hits, but I agree they’re weirdly underwhelming live - I got tickets to see them in a small club in New York about 10 years ago and it was really nothing special.. can’t quite put my finger on why, maybe I had unrealistic expectations. They might be great on the pyramid.
The only time I've seen them was a late afternoon slot on the Pyramid in '99. Was all a bit 'meh' as I recall.

He’s doing isle of wight festival as well which is why it’s worded like that
Forgot about IOW, which is a sensible policy I find

If he wasn't locked into exclusives elsewhere then I agree he'd be on any shortlist. Maybe that's the hold up.
Looking at the wording on the Heritage Live site concerning his Sandringham show, it does leave some room for manoeuvre - as long as it's not a headline slot...
ROBBIE WILLIAMS will perform an exclusive UK show at the Royal Sandringham Estate, Norfolk on Sat 26 Aug 2023! It will be his only stand-alone headline concert in the UK in 2023 and the first prestigious large scale live music event to be hosted at Sandringham.

You're suggesting Midge Ure isn't "Fourth Headliner" sized?
He'd be dancing with tears in his eyes because we all stood still

Adam Ant
OMD
Midge Ure
Kim Wilde
Jimmy SomervilleAll those have had plenty of hits, but can you seriously imagine any of them sharing top billing with the likes of Elton, GnR etc?
The legend slot is normally filled by, yes, an act that's had hits, but must still be a big live draw - at least play arenas and the like of their own accord, rather than headlining a 80's cheese-fest bill.

Roger Waters certainly isn't

What a band.
Agreed, great live band. 1st saw them on the Fables tour at Hammersmith Palais in 1985, lastly a couple of times in 2005. Favourite time was probably on the Farm in 1999.

Will never admit to anyone how much I paid (especially Mrs b 😬), but I did pay a lot to see Led Zeppelin's O2 show, having missed out via the ballot. No regrets though, that was an almighty bucket list event for me, and probably the only opportunity for me to see them.

only even vaguely possible ones I can see are
Lenny Kravitz
Bob Dylan
Van Morrison
might have to get rid of the cringey flashmob dances tbf
Don’t think any of those headlined? Van maybe in 82, not since.
Looking at all the previous headliners, it’s hard to see who would ‘step down’ to do the Legend slot. Stevie Wonder would be perfect, but he probably still sees himself (as it were 😬) as a headliner, as would most others

AM - once, Glasto warm up, Cardiff, 2007. That’s enough for me.
GnR - once, and that was the couple of songs they did at the Freddie Mercury Tribute in 1992.
Reg - a few times 1990 - 2018, including the splendidly bonkers version of Bo Rhap he did with Axl at the above gig. Think it’ll be a big deal for him to finally play. Hope we get tickets in the resale 🤞

I hope Sparks get their long-overdue Pyramid slot. Still great live, they’d steal the show
