Would Pulp headlining in 24/25 be any different to The Cure doing it in 19?

None at all. The latter was initially seen as underwhelming headliners, but mostly won a decent crowd over. I wouldn’t have any problem in Pulp doing it for a third time, and I reckon they’d get a decent sized crowd too. I’m not a huge fan, but having seen the tour last year thought it’d work very well on the Pyramid

  2. First time I saw Karl live was with The Waterboys, Saturday morning Pyramid 1984, same day the Smiths played.

Great musician and composer of some fine songs, RIP sir

I get the get the impression that a lot of people are just happy to be in the same field as these mega stars/"legends" regardless

I get the impression you most certainly don’t, yet you’re one of the most prolific posters on this thread, spreading your negativity. If you’ve little or no interest in these megastars that tend to headline the Pyramid, why do you post so much in this 2024 headliners thread? I’ve no interest in the KLF whatsoever, so give that one a wide berth

They said they weren't doing Oasis or Roses material.

I would have thought that's the main reason people would fork out good money to see those two together.

Perhaps Ian Brown and Noel will pal up to take advantage

    Who would you book?

Don't ask. Skip thinks the only appropriate acts to play the Pyramid are those he likes, rather than those who would actually be popular with a 2024 festival audience. In this alternative reality a scowling Tom Waits would be wheeled on for the Sunday Legend slot to a completely bemused and rapidly dwindling audience and, later on, headliners Misty In Roots would play to a couple of thousand punters

What would the chances be of a steely dan legend spot, albeit quite a bit of time between their manchester gigs and glasto. I think the general public kind of forgets the amount of songs they would recognise, even if from being sampled elsewhere. If not, they would make an incredible other stage headliner against Dua or Coldplay

20-30 years ago they would have been a big draw, but I think they'd not get a big crowd on the Pyramid, much like Robert Plant & Alison Krauss a few years back. Not helped by the fact they rarely play most of their hits (Do It Again, Rikki Don't Lose that Number, Haitian Divorce etc). Last time I saw them it was like being at a convention for retired chartered accountants rather than a rock gig. They'd be a fantastic West Holts headliner though, but whether they'd take a slot like that is another thing

Stevie Nicks was a BST sub just a few years back. Does she have the juice to do it off her own bat?

My thoughts too. Presumably she'll need a strong undercard. Ditto Shania Twain & KoL

For Clarity the post was from an Alt account and Supre hasn't been banned . Thanks all back to headliners

Looking forward to a Supre v Supre face off

  9. We’re overdue a trip to Manchester to visit family and so have relented. £120 seats in the nosebleeds, but apparently the roof is quite low compared to most arenas, so it won’t be like sitting in the top rows of the O2, where you’ve got a good view of the artists’ bald patches, assuming you brought binoculars.

Eagles & Steely Dan is a great bill, and I paid £80 to see the latter in 2019, so I don’t feel too hard done by

Sad news, my first Pyramid Headliner too (from the days when Michael used to promote any old random act to headline Glasto)

  11. The Hundred Monkeys cafe halfway up the High St is a regular venue for lunch when we're visiting, all the better when the sun's out and you can sit in the courtyard

Some people on here are so hard to please. I don't think they realise that by knocking every suggestion that doesn't suit their exacting needs they are just feeding this never ending cycle of dissatisfaction. The festival is not there solely to entertain you and you alone, at some point you will have to accept that a headliner will not be your cup of tea.

The festival has many stages, and acts tend to play in slots that are appropriate to their standing/popularity. There are many acts that can headline slightly smaller festivals (The National, Pet Shop Boys, Nick Cave etc), or maybe headlined The Pyramid years ago when they were more popular than they are now, or before the festival got as huge as it currently is (New Order, The Chems etc) and are a natural shoe in to headline The Other. There is a natural order to things are Glasto, and usually they get it right. A lot of Pyramid headliners don't do much for me, but I rarely think they make poor bookings in that spot

You'd think so? I have no idea how big they are but it seems like they had their biggest tour to date last year, selling out bigger venues than they normally do.

But they'll probably headline Other Stage, which would be perfect for them.

That's the level they're at. When they played the Pyramid in 2017 it was to a significantly smaller crowd than the previous act (Katy Perry) and the act that followed (Foos)

The National would definitely benefit from closing a stage. But it will be the Other Stage.

Yet, I would be wild to see them headline the Pyramid. They can pull it off, even after that 2017 thing.

Depends how you define 'pull it off'. I'm sure their fans would love it, but it would be in front of the smallest crowd for a Pyramid headliner for many years.
