  1. Using Metallica to try and get two near headliners in looking forward to the rest of the 2020s? Metallica / BMTH / Metallica / Parkway Drive Although you could argue Parkway Drive as the weak headliner strong sub that's subbing? Would be a way of being able to afford Metallica?
  2. Greta Van Fleet are worth keeping in the Conversation. Denzel Curry is not.
  3. I've heard Hotel California played at Download to be frank, there an old enough band that despite being more mainstream rock they're still highly regarded as a classic rock band. Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam are too modern and too closely tied to the grunge movement.
  4. It'd be nice if stop suggesting R+L bands are start suggesting DL bands for DL. There's at least 3 dozens bands who could realistically headline in the next 10 years with the right placement on the lineup over the next few years.
  5. Nope. They should be booking less If you want something more poppy take a rock band with commercial appeal like BMTH / 21 Pilots (I know the denim hate em but they're in our wheelhouse). Poppy would be cool. Run the Jewels would be good. Hard no to the rest.
  6. Turnstile and Idles of the more rockier type bands on this years bill seem to have gone down great. Yungblud as well.
  7. I mean the issue is part of Downloads appeal lies in it being appealing to the hard rock gatekeepers. There's probably a ten thousand people or so who go to Download because it's 'real rock and roll' and probably weren't creaming their pants over Biffy being a headliner this year (especially after initial promises of SOAD). If you book Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age and Pearl Jam in one year you'd soon lose almost the entirely regular contingent of the festival. The Thursday would really work as a way of addressing that and it seems an utter shame to turn round and use it double down on Metallica. If you've got BMTH / Metallica / Guns N Roses for the weekend then having Foo Fighters / QOTSA . Pearl Jam / Green Day etc on the Thursday would add something completely different to the whole shebang. Another option could be booking The Who / The Rolling Stones / The Eagles
  8. But if Download actually booked stadium bands, they'd shift more tickets and be the bigger festival they are more than capable of. The right line up could see the festival at capacity on all four days - and at that point it has to be making enough money to book the right line up the year after. Your never gonna grow the festival booking Def Leppard.
  9. Calling the other stage a main stage doesn't make it a main stage. Especially as it would be impossible to watch both sets.
  10. It's really not a mid-sized festival - it has a capacity of 110,000 - a capacity it came pretty close to reaching for Guns N Roses and Ozzy's days as recently as 2018. 2019 was naturally a smaller festival in large part due to the atrocious weather and thousands of people going home/not buying day tickets. Someone with more knowledge might know but I'm assuming it'll have done the same for Maiden this year. Also for those swinging in the air about dates. It's gonna depend massively on whether the late October/early November think is because that's when they normally finish booking or for commercial purposes. Obviously we know they've booked headliners but the 5 festivals have all been announced October-November. 2015 Headliners - 19th November 2014 2016 Headliners - 21st October 2015 2017 Headliners - 3rd November 2016 2018 Headliners 6th November 2017 - 13th November 2017 ( 2019 Headliners - 23rd October 2018 -
  11. How many Download headliners are subs at Reading? Almost all of them are outright headliners, they're definitely a weaker headliner especially as like A7X they're pretty divisive among a Download audience.
  12. So based on all of this? Metallica / Judas Priest Bring Me the Horizon / Architects Metallica / Parkway Drive Guns N Roses / Def Leppard Although maybe Priest and Leppard could both be counted as weak headliner/strong sub. Haven't got a clue who you put in other against them though.
  13. You just talk to one of the other 100,000 people around and make new friends. Your mates don't give a fuck cos they know you're probably having the time of your life and then you catch up in the morning. They find other people to talk to and you'll have a chat about over your cornflakes? Is this really so hard for anyone under 25 or so to understand.
  14. I think in an ideal world flags, phones, flares and chairs would be banned from all gigs. But I guess it's easier to ban phones at a 500 person gig in Frome than a 210,000 person festival. I'd love to see a festival ban phones, but they seem to prefer forcing you to take one to get in nowadays.
  15. Whether there good anymore these days is totally irrelevant. A hundred thousand people or more will still pay good money go and watch them. Even if hard rock fans and anyone who went to DL 2018 knows they're a bit crap live these days. Guns N Roses is by far the busiest day of Download I can remember of the two Downloads I went to, closely followed by Ozzy. Def Leppard, Tool and Avenged Sevenfold all felt pretty sparse comparatively. Slipknot was busy but not as busy as the first two probably largely due to the weather. To be honest a selfish part of me hopes they don't book GNR and Metallica X 2 because that arena is gonna be hell to walk round all weekend with BMTH probably on par with Slipknot day.
  16. Doing a bit of a fag packet calculating based on the rumoured headliners - first announcement 8th July for headliners
  17. Don't know about Glasto but it was an instant ejection at a lot of festivals, it's a breach of terms and conditions. Some others they'd search you and make sure you didn't have any more on you. This comes back to Glasto's non-arena policy - do you really want arena level searches from other festivals on the way through the perimeter fence? Because that's what those asking for flares to be banned will get.
  18. Listening to the new Municipal Waste album. Hope they play next year.
  19. Just sorted my ticket so expect Def Leppard / Muse / Biffy Clyro / Whitesnake
  20. Better get an early bird in, 3 of those days are gonna sell out and the 3rd one will sell a lot of weekend tickets!! I know they can't be blamed for chasing the money but that is serious chasing the money.
  21. To be fair that's surely exactly the sort of thing you would take to the desert island? So you can at least here your son's voice.
  22. You'd have to be mad to book Ozzy. There's a realistic chance he won't be around let alone touring next June. I can totally see two nights of Metallica and one of SOAD in order to fully catch up on the past few years but then the other day needs to a band like BMTH if the festival doesn't want to become the 'aging rockers' festival. Apparently they only sold 60,000 this year according to the Facebook group? They're gonna be desperate to attract a younger audience because a 110,000-120,000 capacity site not even half filling does not equal any sustainability.
  23. You know bands can reform? In what way is Zeal & Ardour subbing mad? - they are an incredible live band - okay they don't shift records but most people will want to see them. Supposed you could swap Machine Head and Yard Act
  24. Really? Tenacious D / Steel Panther / Black Veil Brides
  25. Ok seen as I've been criticised for too much old shit in my previous attempts. Thursday Main - Metallica / Judas Priest / Sabaton / Sevendust Other - Enter Shikari Avalanche - Reel Big Fish / Mighty Bosstones Friday Main - Bring Me the Horizon / Yungblud / Creeper / Pantera Other - Halestorm Avalanche - Less Than Jake Saturday Main - Metallica / Parkway Drive / Turnstile / Thunder Other - Idles Avalanche - Machine Head Sunday Main - Slipknot / Zeal and Ardor / Badflower / Cheap Trick Other - Yard Act Avalanche - Kid Brunswick
