  1. Disturbed being slight more subtle in titling their anti-woke nonsense 'Hey You' Looks like the era of inclusive metal bands might be coming to an end and I need to start flogging some band t-shirts. Looking forward to the 2020s version of One in A Million in a few weeks from one of these crackpot bands.
  2. I'm going go out on a real limb here and go with Metallica not playing and opting for their own Knebworth show.
  3. Widely been suggested they do Thursday / Saturday at Download hasn't it?
  4. Really early announcement. Good thing or bad thing?
  5. Yes because if punters are literally unable to get into see a band that was one of the deciding factors for them buying a ticket there going to be less inclined to turn up in future years when they realise they're playing the tent again. As mentioned Shikari were doing a tour of smaller venues than they'd normally play - hence the avalanche tent. If they come back high up on 2nd stage has to be where they go at least - they were playing against Slayer and Tool for a part of their set and the tent was still overcrowded with people packing in the grass down the side of it to try and watch. They might not have cared too much about tent overcrowding in 2019 but given a few high profile events in recent years they may well now. Yup, would be insanity to but them on 3rd.
  6. Which they chose to do despite being offered higher slots, it was dangerously overcrowded in that tent. I don't think they'd ever be allowed lower than second stage again unless they realise an album on Neil Diamond covers and play it live or something stupid.
  7. Enter Shikari could comfortably sub
  8. Assuming the security guards works 60 hours at £10.50 (a shite rate for the job, but mentioned by others on here the offered rate for SIA work) they'll take home £660. A fireworks display cost up to a £1000 a minute - I'd imagine at a site like Glasto your looking at a longish one? Maybe Glasto should reassess where they're spending ticket payers money so they don't get bent guards letting people in as rumoured and people so checked out of their jobs they can't keep people safe / a shortage of skilled staff?
  9. Selling out MK is still reasonably good going.
  10. Honestly if Parkway Drive's album ends up being anywhere near as good as the first two signals on the whole and better than Reverence - let them headline.
  11. But I mean, Die Antwoord went down like a bloody led balloon.
  12. What do people think the overall system of Die Antwoord actually was. I heard a lot of people who went say how fun it was but I was too busy hanging it out with the people who thought it was sacrilege at the other stages/in the toilet queue to find out.
  13. Might help people to read the context of posts. I was referring specifically to suggestions of Nothing But Thieves or Chvrches.
  14. I need the camp chair for that - to sleep in....
  15. Indie bands are not going to play 3rd down at Download when they can headline any one of 50 other festivals and not have to do weeks interviews of double denim media asking them if they 'were surprised to be offered the gig' in a condescending you don't belong here tone.
  16. They'd be great for the Avalanche if recent trends carry on...
  17. It shouldn't happen but if Download continues it's obsession with shoving any remotely hardcore/punk-adjacent band onto the Avalanche then these bands are going to find better gigs elsewhere. Enter Shikari in 2019 headlining the Avalanche despite easily being good enough for a Other Headliner. Funeral For A Friend this year on the Avalanche when they could easily have played some point on other/main
  18. Metallica / BMTH / Metallica* / AC/DC *would have originally been Maiden if not for Covid as this years headliners were pencilled in before 2020 was booked to avoid using them in 2021/2022. This is word of mouth from people who know people who know people, but I've no reason to disbelieve it.
  19. An interesting though experiment is what Download headliners look like in another 20 years as a celebration of the 20th festival. If you account for bands that currently sit on the 'Download headliner roster' and haven't retired there going to go into retirement soon enough. Of all the still active bands that have previously been headliners: Aerosmith's average age will be 91 AC/DC's average will be 89 Iron Maiden's average age will be 84. Def Leppard's average age will be 80 Metallica's average age will be 78. Faith No More's average age will be 77 System of A Downs average age will be 76 Rammstein's average will be 75 RATM's average will be 74 Guns N Roses average age will be 72 Even of the 'younger bands' (i.e below retirment age in 2022) Slipknot's average age will be 69 Muse's average age will be 63 Biffy Clyro's average will be 62 My Chemical Romance's average age will be 62. Avenged Sevenfold's average will be 60 And it doesn't get much better when you start looking at bands that have subbed but could be bumped: We're going to end up with bands like A Day to Remember, Parkway Drive, Black Stone Cherry, Ghost and Alter Bridge as the 'elder statesmen of rock' purely through the fact there's no one else around.
  20. You're at a festival you don't need to shower.
  21. Yes, you should go read some of my posts on the Glasto thread 😛
  22. The Status Quo suggesting was a bloody joke.

  24. It's buried deep in the official forum threads on 2023. Parkway and Architects are both exactly the kind of band that you'd pencil in as a headliner if you didn't have a show stopping band and you could easily contract them to sub should you get a better band. FFDP and Judas Priest might also fool in that wheelhouse but BMTH (by virtue of them refusing to play unless headlining) / Metallica / Guns N Roses would all be too big for it. Ghost are a weird one, big enough to headline but not sub. I honestly feel like if there's a year to do dual main stages it's next year - all of us can easily count 8-10 available bands who can headline I am going to find it quite funny if those rumours turn out be codswallop though.
  25. So if GNR are booked for the headline on Sunday Parkway would surely be subbing, presumably Parkway got booked on the old 'you're a headliner until we can find a better headliner and then you sub' Copping trick. If so then we can pretty much confirm Metallica / Bring Me the Horizon / Metallica / Guns N Roses TBC / Architects / TBC / Parkway Drive If that's true he might as well shoot the load now and announce it because that will shift an insane amount of tickets. Really starting to wonder if we're gonna get double main stages now.
