I'm mainly comparing with 10 years ago to be fair, when the headliners included Sigur Ros, Interpol, Amadou & Mariam and The Mars Volta. It was a genuine alternative to the mainstream festivals at the time.

It has been a slow creep in this direction over the years. I remember happily watching Midlake a few years back, with the Temper Trap to follow. I'm not going to make any particular judgement on the Temper Trap's music but before Midlake finished, an absolute horde of noisy teenagers started trying to push to the front and completely ruined the atmosphere. I guess you have to just put up with it at a large festival, but to be honest I'd rather just find a nicer festival nowadays. Which makes me very sad because I love the place.

I cant comment on how it was years ago but I totally get your point. I just think in the grand scheme of things, there are much worse festivals you could attend for noisy and obnoxious teens.

So I think they've balanced the lineup a bit better than in recent years, but the Latitude Festival I know and love is officially dead.

I used to describe Latitude as 'Glastonbury with the shitty pop removed'. Not sure I can say that anymore.

Booking bands like the Killers and Rag N Bone Man changes the whole atmosphere of a festival. It invites a completely different calibre of people, who unfortunately are much less likely to be considerate of others - the very thing I used to go to Latitude to avoid.

I'd argue that The 1975, Mumford and Sons and Fatboy Slim may have bought the calibre of clientele that you refer to but I didn't notice a huge shift in the demographic last year. I think this line up is a great all rounder, plenty there for all tastes which maintains a nice diverse crowd.

Latitude & Reading/Leeds may release on the same day, as they are run by same group, Festival Republic. HOPEFULLY, TONIGHT, tomorrow or next week!

They're both run by Festival Republic but I don't reckon both the line ups will be released on the same day, doesn't really make much sense from a marketing perspective. My guess is this Monday coming for R and L and the following Monday for Latitude.

Any of the folliwng please Melvin:

Kills, Hives, BRMC, Bully, Frank Carter, Breeders, Wolf Alice, MBV, Deap Vally, Distillers (very long shot, hey, but we can dream...)!

Most of these that you mention are viable for the festival. Hoping for many of them myself but am preparing for disappointment haha!

FR (and other organisers) constantly claim 'exclusives' that are only 'exclusives' if you don't count the Big Weekend as a festival. Probably because it's near-impossible to get tickets - obviously, acts playing an event nobody can get tickets to isn't going to affect your demand.

True but Latitude don't share many/any acts with Big Weekend looking at the past few years. Don't reckon its gonna be James Bay and hopefully not Snow Patrol either.

Why? Swansea is nowhere near Blythburgh.

Just isn't a very exclusive booking for a headliner and Melvin likes an exclusive. Cant see the headliners being at any other UK festivals but could be wrong.

He's just been announced for the BBC's Biggest Weekend thing, too. Man's about to be everywhere again and as such he definitely has to be a leading contender for this, now, however dreary that may be.

Surely Biggest Weekend must make him less likely? At least a headliner.

  8. Reckon we might get some cross over with the QOTSA day at Finsbury Park. I know Iggy Pop is a UK exclusive but reckon we could see The Hives and Deap Vally rocking up. Also have Royal Blood been considered for the Friday night 'step up' slot? Think they're pretty viable for it. I'm a bit indifferent to them mind, their second album seemed to be a carbon copy of the first.

Queen being at Latitude would actually be one of the biggest acts they would have ever had  Cmon though, Sigur Ros are who I've wanted to see for ages! REALLY HOPE their there!

There is a big difference between Queen and Queen with Adam Lambert haha

Don't know if incorrect or not but when you go to the lineup page on the R&L website, the picture of the stage at the bottom looks a lot like foo fighters from 2012. The image of the guy singing on the big screen looks like dave? Coincidence or not.

The stage didn't look like that in 2012 when they played. It was a different design.

  11. Really stumped for who can headline this year with the recent announcements, realistic possibilities are probably Lana Del Rey, Wolf Alice (not convinced they're big enough to headline but a lot of folk seem to be), Florence and the Machine, Tame Impala (rumored for Citadel the same weekend) , Gorillaz (Boomtown exclusive tag is a little ambiguous). A little more pie in the sky would be Paul McCartney and Fleetwood Mac. One can dream, at this point I'm clutching at straws. I guess we will find out soon enough.

The majority of acts (Thurs-Sat)are all in Parc Del Forum, over several stages. It's a very good festival site. Spacious, well laid out and actually very pretty too. The use of the Auditori was an external indoor arena in use, just by the Parc - but this seems to have been reduced this year

however the Tuesday and wednesday before and the following Sunday, the festival hold events in smaller venues in and around the city

Perfect, thanks for clearing that up. Sounds great, hopefully will be attending this year!

  13. Could someone explain to me how this festival runs in terms of where the acts will play. I always had it in my head that it was an inner city festival at various venues but after a brief look it seems there is an arena with multiple stages. Is this where the announced acts will play?

That sucks. Still no UK pre-orders available from what I can see. @The_Amazing_Oblong could you let us know if you have to pay any customs? If not I might have to do it.

Must say I'm surprised Heavenly haven't sorted out a pre order, I reckon most UK/Europe folk will have gone overseas for a copy on wax now. I ordered Gumboot Soup from Flightless (Aus) and in the past experience I have never had customs fees added on. I ordered a copy of FMB from ATO (USA) on release and had an extra £15 slapped on by customs.

  15. Don't think we will get Chemical Brothers as they're doing Boardmasters.

Think Oh Sees are pretty likely as it seems they're in Europe around Lat. Potential Sunrise headliner or relatively high in the tent?

$40, like I said I would happily pay that for the album itself.

Its the $15 shipping portion of it I have unreasonable objections to. Also the fact that it will probably be sometime in late May before it arrives.

and the fact you will probably receive a dreaded customs charge :sorry:

alt-J headlined the tent in 2013 and then headlined main in 2015 so it'd be pretty much the same as that.

Yeah fair point, I feel like Alt-J have a wider appeal though but that might just be my distorted view.

Tame Impala are apparently headlining Citadel.

    Where have you heard this?
