  1. Had a bloody great time (apart from the 7.5 hour drive back home).

Main things for me were - they screwed up large on the general camping allocation of space. I arrived early and found space but others arriving later on the Thursday and on Friday were really struggling to find somewhere to pitch up.They ended up pitched in walkways, by the edge of paths and basically anywhere that was not a firebreak.

Conversely, family camping, family campervans and general campervans were wallowing in acres of space (embarrassingly so in comparison to general camping). Pink Moon etc ......many of those tents were literally pitched by the clangers, under the lights and near the generators .......I would have complained should I have been in there and paid that.

Water-  Green camping especially, the water pressure was crap - took me 30 minutes to fill an average sized water container. It was just a dribble. Clangers were normally cleanish and usable.

Naturally there were going to be pullouts of acts and they did a good job of covering those. We expected that, but there were several holes in the schedule. Sunday night Bastille vs a Covid depleted Sons of Kemet meant an early night.

    Plaudits to:

Wolf Alice, confident, assured and developed in six short years into nailed on headliners.

    Anna Meredith - mesmerising.

    Vlure - cracking set.

Bombay Bicycle Club = not really familiar with them, but absolutely slotted it.

    Chemical Brothers - Party.

    Just Mustard. Loud and moody.

Supergrass/Kaiser Chiefs - did what they do well and captured the joyous spirit of people being in a field again.

Damon Albarn - Form is temporary, class is permament - what a setting!

The Staves - seemingly missing one Stave but making no reference to it but putting in a slick performance anyway.

The weather. Hot, sweaty and  humid but we dodged a bullet with those thunderstorms.

I can forgive the rest. Just great to be back.

    Roll on EoTR.

Got a ticket going spare for Frank Turner at the Concorde2 in Brighton tonight if anyone wants it.

Got my ticket, but under the Revive Live events a second person can get entry if they show they play the national lottery, either with a weekly lotto ticket or a scratchcard. Have to enter with the ticketholder, so would need to meet in Brighton or at the venue.

Gig details here, doors open 7:30 https://www.concorde2.co.uk/events/frank-turner-the-sleeping-souls

Not after cash or owt for it, just happy for it to not go to waste.  I've got feelers out with their Twitter account as well for anyone after it, so very much first come first served.

No obligation or pressure to hang out before or during either.  Normally a solo gigger so I'm happy on my tod, so if that's your thing then feel free to find your preferred spot in the venue and leave me to it.  But happy to grab a beer as well!

@Ozanne @finn_with_1_n @Copperface @balti-pie I know you chaps are all in that neck of the woods

Hah, about 360 miles the other way and on way to Latitude tomorrow! Kind offer though, hope someone takes it up.

Billie Marten is still set to play. Maybe she’s ditched this week’s in-store’s to avoid getting ‘pinged’ before Lat.

Yep, that looks more likely ......staying out of the way so as not to put her Latitude appearance in jeopardy or risk any pings.

Ignore that- someone has pointed Anna meredith is likely to be playing at 3pm and not 3am- which makes a lot of sense. Back to some 80s cheese with Rick for me 🕺

and just when I was about to give him up

The charlatans? Tim Burgess is playing on the Sunday and he’s playing with the charlatans on Friday at Car fest?

Blimey. They played last time I went, afternoon slot on the Obelisk. having said that, his profile is a lot higher now.

Will not most of Whitney, John Grant, Tinariwen and Songhoy Blues cancel though?

Can't help but think we haven't had the day split because of the all rescheduling needed as international travel turns out to be too difficult.

The US raising the threat level from the UK to Level 4 and recommending avoiding travel to the UK won't help with US bands coming over:

Sad to miss Hot Chip but hopefully there'll be End of the Road for that later in the year.

Good luck to everyone trying to dodge covid isolation for the last few days. Hang in there!

Thaat's my exact solution. WA at Latitude and Hot Chip at EoTR (hopefully).

I'd love that. Primal Scream seem to be out there a lot too.

Yeah. Always wanted to see BSP and seeing them in the Garden would be fantastic. Primal Scream would be a right party as well, even though Gillespie annoys the tits off me.

  9. Any thoughts on the possibility that a surprise, or last minute addition as a replacement if needed, might be British Sea Power, who have played EoTR several times and start a tour on 10th September? Good way to kick off a tour.

    Really hope this goes ahead.

The 28 day rule was a useful way of getting a figure that was consistent and easy to compare, but as the case fatality ratio continues to drop and the prevalence stays high, surely we have to start looking at the more accurate, but less consistent measure? Eventually, we could end up in a dihydrogen monoxide situation and that's no use to anyone.

That Osmond idiot has subsequently apologised for getting it wrong so no, it's not that inaccurate. That's what happens when bar ownwers start becoming experts in mortality causes.

  11. The debut EP by The Lounge Society, ‘Silk For The Starving’, out June 18th

From the same area as The Goa Express, Drenge ,W.H Lung and Working Men's Club. Must be something in the water there.

Do they get a vote on each delay?

They were granted a vote on the roadmap to pacify them even though there was no requirement for a vote.

The roadmap is separate from the Coronavirus Regs which are enacted under the Coronavirus Act, up for ministerial review in September (they can vote on it but it's non binding). Either all measures are passed or it is repealed, but that is unlikely because it provides a lot of admin stuff that helps the NHS and other measures.

A lot of the main restrictions are enacted by Ministerial Direction under the PH(CD) Act 84  and they are not voted on (this includes national bans on mass gatherings, for example) - the only thing that happens is that the Health Sec has to regularly review and judge whether they are still necessary to assist is a public health context.

They could quite easily follow the roadmap but retain the restrictions under the PH(CD)A and claim that they have enacted the roadmap.

Feel like I'm back in August last year!

I watched swim deep at 110 above in 2019 - found them extremely dull despite liking some of their music

Swim Deep are OK - wasn't sure they were still going.

They are great friends with Wolf Alice and Austin used to go out with Ellie Rowsell, so might be interesting to see if any of WA pitch up on stage with them.

I know so many people to have caught Covid recently.

I'm going to the cricket on Sunday, then to see Seasick Steve on Tuesday and I am terrified that I will not be attending Latitude as a result.

Right. That's the boot for you wrapped in a polythene sheet.

Looking at the map it's pretty much the same as it was in '19....unsure if it's to scale or not though.  Walking through to the CV fields there seemed to be quite a lot of space in the general camping areas though, if that's any help?  The family CV fields are where general camping was in '18 then the following year everything was shuffled about - the family camping previously was way over the other side of the Forbidden Forrest & quite small, I think.  I presume  because it's branded as a family festival they have over the years increased the family camping areas😁  there will be plenty of space😉

Yep, I didn't go in 2019 but the group I'm with did and they said that the layout had changed in 2019. We're normally to the right as you come in through the gate near a tree somewhere (drunken landmark), right next to the campervans. I don't mind the walk in so much but have got used to having a decent amount of space there. So it'll be new for me as well if it has radically changed.

Is it me or has general camping been royally done over here?

    Screenshot_20210714-214829.png

That really cannot be right on that map. General camping confined to two small areas (Red and Green) furthest away from the arena entrance?

Going to be problems capacity and space wise for general campers if that is anything to scale.

I was in 2 minds about whether to even post but so glad I did, other people raising their concerns has made me feel less anxious, like if you are all voicing the same concerns then you'll all be taking the same kind of precautions so we should all be safer.

@incident sharing your staff info re: testing has made me feel even more calm - Festival Republic sound like they are taking things as seriously as I'd expect them to but having on the ground info is such a bonus, so thank you for sharing.

Good shout on the face coverings @Copperface it'll be dusty as fuck with all the sunshine we'll be getting😉  And how good was that Fatboy set! We we're on the outer left of the stage, toilet side😅 there was no get in that tent, so so rammed!

I'm sure I'll have the best time, just need to keep a lid on the anxiety for 6 more days, keep testing (only out of caution, doubled vaxxed) actually get to site, wristband on, gin in hand & then I might, just might believe it's real😊

Thanks so much for everyone's support, imagine I'd posted in The Shit Thread instead😮 I'd be curled up in a heap, crying under the bed judging by how that thread goes 😅

You'll be fine. Think a lot of people will be taking it easy and finding their own level over the first couple of days.

As you say, mucho gin will help.

From a Staff perspective - they are treating it seriously. We're being required to log a negative LFT taken the day before arrival (regardless of vaccination status), and then take a second LFT during the festival. We'll also have to complete a daily health questionnaire.

I don't know exactly how they're planning to handle public arrivals, but I guess that they will be enforcing the negative LFT / 2 jab requirement. I'll be somewhat pissed off if they don't given the hoops we're jumping through.

Hope so. I'll be a lot more relaxed and willing to get into the tents etc if I know that the vast majority have been jabbed/provided LFTs etc. I remember Fatboy Slim in the big tent a few years ago - it was crowded, hot and going off - no way would I be in there this time if there were no precautions.

As to masks etc, given the dust down past the entrance and into the woods, I'm likely to be wearing one for that anyway, as it can get like a duststorm when hot.

  20. As it's after the 19th and the presumed relaxation of restrictions etc, why are they still touting this as a test event, when there is clearly no need to?

I would still feel safer if it was treated as an ERP event and the testing and vaccination proof was rigorously enforced, but given there will be no legal need then do you think they will still treat those requirements as seriously?

  21. Boom Village festival cancelled amid rising cases

Boom Village was going to be held on the same site as the already-cancelled Boomtown Boom Village was going to be held on the same site as the already-cancelled Boomtown

A scaled-down version of the Boomtown music festival has been cancelled because of escalating cases of Covid, the event's organisers have said.

Boom Village was due to be hosted at the Matterley Estate, near Winchester, between 11 and 15 August.

It was designed to be a smaller event than the usual Boomtown festival, which had already been cancelled.

Organisers say they appreciate the decision might seem confusing given the imminent lifting of Covid restrictions.

A statement on the Boomtown website says the risk of widespread illness and self-isolation would result in them not having enough people to safely deliver the event.

"The core decision is due to the escalating cases of Covid-19 across the country," it adds.

Ticket holders have been promised refunds and the full Boomtown festival is expected to return in 2022.
