Its cheap slurs to be honest...

Russia wasn't invading the Ukraine at the end of last year.

Only that that they had already invaded and occupied Ukraine in 2014.

And not forgetting the Nemtsov shooting, Litvinenko and Skripal WMD attacks in Britain, the Navalny poisoning and jailing, cyber attacks throughout the world, assisting the Assad regime, election interference. Think they might have been a bit more cognisant of the repeated warnings that were circulating over the last ten years about the insidious infiltration of Russian influence and money. No excuses unfortunately.

I think while I can understand why sporting governing bodies would move to ban national teams I think moving to stop individuals competing is where I would draw a line unless it can be shown they have clear links to Putins shit show.  You could end up with a situation where someone has been living in the USA for their entire life but be banned just because they where born Russian.  Would be a crazy position to be in.

I would let Russians compete under the Olympic flag for example.

    Nice.

Russian drivers banned from competing in UK

Mazepin's father Dmitry provides financial backing to Haas and is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Haas are expected to sever their links with Mazepin.

So ideally the russian advance stops due to a mix of Ukrainian resistance and low russian morale, but this is probably unlikely. Or someone overthrows Putin soon due to all of the sanctions etc. again unlikely. Or NATO steps in to directly engage with Russia, very unlikely I think. Or most likely Russia keeps going and fights and bombs ukraine until they surrender, which could be prolonged and mean a lot of death and destruction.

Some times I think maybe it's best for Ukraine to surrender now...and then see what can be negotiated.

Looks more like a land grab from the east up to the Dnieper, splt the country in two, and take the southern coast up to Odesa. Ukraine fractured but long term occupation of more than the eastern oblasts seems improbable to me. They cant sustain that militarily, let alone in conjunction with sanctions. They've gone further than I thought they would but this is about to get really nasty now, with huge risk of escalation once images start coming in of what is taking place. No idea at all about how this'll be resolved.

Got to start thinking right, sod it.....immediate admission of Finland and Sweden to NATO, massive reinforcement along every NATO state border, especially the Baltic states, total isolation of the Kaliningrad enclave, crush Russia economically and reputationally, isolate every aspect of Russian life where we can, keep the pressure on and don't let up. If Putin gets away with this he'll bide time then try the same tactics in the above areas.

Putin only understands strength and looks to exploit weakness.  For those who think this will escalate things, this doesn't get any more serious than where we are now.

Good on her for owning it and explaining the situation. She’s not wrong about the 2nd part.

She's talking shite as normal. Russia invaded Ukraine over eight years ago. She and her fellow nutters signed that letter while the military build up was underway. She is being disingenuous but not new for her. Webbe and Corbyn did not withdraw their names as independents - the Labour signatories only did so in order not to have the whip withdrawn.

Anyone else have any other hopes/guesses?

That they sort out the reduction in general camping size compared to the campervan/family camping areas. Was a nightmare last year. Not a spare inch anywhere. But the CV and family fields were eerily empty.

Unless they sort that they can get stuffed.

Yup, but what I mean is how out in the open it is now and Glastonbury still haven’t said anything. I imagine the Ukraine situation had something to do with it but it’s quite alarming how much this is being reported as fact.

Talking of which, and tying two stories together, I took this a couple of weeks ago in the main square in Vinnytsia, southern Ukraine down towards the Moldovan border. Vinnytsia now under aerial and artillery bombardment, but the Beatles spirit is strong in that town.

  7. Just been speaking to my brother in law, who was also out in Kyiv, but part of the EU training mission there, and he's watching the TV coverage of a tank being attacked, and Russian soldiers in UKR uniforms killled...........in the car park of the block of flats where he lived when deployed there. Brings it right home.

What makes it shocking to me is that I dread to think what some of the drivers and interpreters, as well as the local staff and hotel workers etc who used to look after us are going through. This is close to home.

The Russians are the main supplier of India's weapons systems. India is also now another populist nationalist state thanks to Modi. Modi's refused to condemn the invasion, just calling for a ceasefire and talks between Russia and NATO. Duplicitious little shit.

Up early because I have a full on cold and a head full of snot and can't sleep.

Anyway, enough about me, back to the war. Sounds like Russia is going to take Kyiv soon. How much are Ukrainians going to fight back? If the city is full of civilians maybe better to surrender the city...for now? Is this going to turn into a guerilla war, and street fighting? Could be carnage. If does carry on, how long do the west look on and not get involved? Nato does not want to fight Russia because that could really trigger WW3...but it can stand by and watch a supposed ally get destroyed? What a disaster.

I got back and immediately caught Covid. Still suffering but hopefully on the other side of it now.

could also drift over Russia too though, right?

Yeah.....causing such damage intentionally with a possible outcome like that is unlikely. ( Although Vlad does come across as a bit of a zealot at the moment)

It's more having massive nuclear plants in an active conflict zone that sounds alarms and makes it a real contingency that can't be planned for if anything happened.

There would be limited infrastructure or ability to respond to an accident and try to control an incident, unlike in other well known cases, which makes this just one of the concerning and unique aspects of all of this.

Lovely country, lovely cities (Kyiv, Odesa etc) and lovely people and awful to see what is happening. They're tough cookies though and really determined and this could drag on for months/years yet.

Not sure I see myself getting back out there any time soon.

Not a stupid question at all, and yes the possibilities are terrifying.

That;s not to forget the other fifteen active currently operational reactors at four major sites in Ukraine.

One little accident due to conflict could unleash a radioactive cloud that could clearly drift over into NATO territories. Would not put that past Putin in his current state at all and fits his hybrid grey warfare model.

Contaminating a western state without use of nuclear weapons and the simple answer of claiming an 'accident'.

We all got withdrawn from Kyiv eight days ago along with US and Canadian colleagues and that was definitely a topic that was raised on the journey out by people who are expert in these things. Think it's the first time there's been major conflict in a country with nuclear capacity.

There’s an emerging story of £600m being paid to an interior design company for PPE. The money is no longer in the company accounts and of course no PPE has appeared.

Unispace is going to be the next big scandal to add another nail to Spaffers coffin. If it’s proved that any Tory is connected to that company then I think it’s riot time.

How about Uniserve and the Tory MP Julia Lopez?

Uniserve, a logistics company, got a £300 million contract for PPE and a £572 million contract for freight services.  Most of it was unsuitable and delayed and as such, unusable. As a result, it is now all being stored in containers around Suffolk - The Government is being charged c. £1 million per day for this storage - by Uniserve. Who happen to share the same office correspondence address as Lopez.
