A question for those with local knowledge

Hi Everyone

I'm a long time lurker but a little forum shy so be gentle!!

This year for the first time every we failed to get regular tickets, however after much credit card shuffling we have stretched to a Yurt with hospitality tickets option. This was a pretty tough decision as I couldn't afford it really but having only missed one Festival since 1994 added the fact that this may be the last ever "adult only" Glastonbury we decided to stuff the cost and go for it.

So the problem is that I am having to travel down on my own Thursday by train. The rest of my group are travelling by car from another part of the country tomorrow.

My wristband will be waiting for me on site which is close to Gate B but I have no idea if I get the shuttle bus how I will get from the drop off point at Gate A to my wristband at Gate B? All I have is an E mail booking confirmation until I arrive at the camp site rather than an actual ticket.

The official line has been to book a Taxi however I have tried to pre-book with a couple of Taxi firms but no one seems keen on dropping me anywhere other than the official drop off points.

Can anyone who has local knowledge advise me if I am likely to pick up a taxi at Castle Cary station willing to drop me off anywhere near Gate B? I have actually been given a Pilton Village Guest Vehicle Pass as part of the booking but my car is not up to the 5 hour Journey.

If anyone with local knowledge could offer any suggestions, details of a local Taxi firms or indeed local public transport route that would get me near Gate B I would be very grateful.

Thanks for reading

:girldance: Wishing you all a sunny happy festival :girldance:

Will the people that you booked this yurt through not be able to provide you with this information.

That's not supposed to be flippant, if you have booked through. Land and Sky or a similar provider they should be walking you through this process.

Have a great festival!!

Hi Ben

You would have thought so wouldn't you !!

I think they expect everyone to drive in or indeed get their drivers to drop them off.

I'm sure I can't be the only one coming by public transport, the official line of site I am booked through it to get a Taxi from Castle Cary but that is proving more difficult than it sounds as the moment.

Hopefully when the rest of my group arrive tomorrow i'll have a better idea of what to do.

If all else fails one of them will have to leave the site to come and pick me up at the station although I wanted to avoid asking them to do this as I won't arrive until early evening so it will mean a none drinking day for whoever draws the short straw.

You have a great festival too, I'm looking forward to a sunny one this year now i'm getting on a bit (well 40 anyway! )

Who are you staying with?

If you have a look at the provider website, then try and match this to where you are going, this may give you an idea.

In all honesty, I would rind the provider tomorrow, and tell them what time you'll be at the station and then tell them to either pick you up from there, or pick you up from a point that you can get to. They should be as accommodating as possible.

It's not an easy walk and you won't get a taxi as they will get lost/stuck.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the Good luck wishes Ben I am sure it will all work out in the end, I think the normal Pre-Glasto nerves are making it seem more complicated than it needs to be.

I've finished work now for the week so think I Shall be be putting my time tomorrow to good use and making some calls !!

Hope you have a good one xx

Are you booked into the yurt hotel near gate B? If so, the walk from Gate A is about half an hour through the village, security permitting. It is not that easy to find if it is the one that went up this week, it is behind the villagers / green carpark and there is a one way system in operation through that car park and back to the A361 at the top of the hill. A taxi would have problems unless security let them through the village and they drove past Worthy lane and out on the Pylle Road, turning up Copse lane.

Don't bother with trying to walk from Gate A to Gate B if you are carrying kit. Unless the company can arrange a pickup, a taxi is probably your best bet. Security should let them through if you explain where you are going. If it is the yurt hotel, the entrance is just off Copse lane. There is a double farm gate on the left heading uphill with a sign. It is at the end of the bridleway.

Thanks Pilton Digger it is that one.

I wont be carrying much as I sent most of my stuff on with rest of my group so walking through the village is a possibility if the security guys and girls will let me do so.

However I a keeping my fingers crossed as I think I may have found a kindly Taxi driver who is also a Pilton resident so should be able to drive through the village, just waiting for him to get back to me to confrm later today.

Fingers and toes crossed x

    • I really like the Cheap Thrills! I saw them at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester in January at one of Chris Hawkins' "Awesome Friends" nights (which i think is why I even got tickets as it wasn't listed as a Cheap Thrills show!). Very good live and some great songs. I would've gone Saturday if I'd planned ahead!
    • They also seem to be in a mission to break the US with their new major label and this latest LP   Mid afternoon, live streamed on Disney+ is arguably a much bigger gig than Kendal Calling, if they had to skip one
