i caught swine flu at glastonbury

I got very fluey after glasto.

I looked up the symptoms.

They all matched. But then they would have matched if i had normal flu.

What procedure should i have taken. Well according to the NHS questionnaire, i should have immediately phoned 999. I was sure that was a glitch, so ignored it. The other option was to call the doctor, get a number, go get tamiflu. I decided that i couldnt be bothered with that, so just assumed i had swine flu and stayed in bed all week.

well thats the thing, from what ive read mate, as you say all swine flu symptons are the same as normal flu, slo how can you differentiate the two?

In that condition, you're also pretty unlikely to be taking scheduled flights about the place, right? Apologies for the immorta line - "I'm not a Doctor, but.." flu is a standard illness, people have got it every year for thousands of years, and as far as I can see a big fuss is being made about nothing. If I knew the person next to me on the tube or a flight had swine flu it wouldn't bother me at all. It's the ones just in from Uganda with ebola that make me nervous!

The way i looked at it, im 21, ive only ever had flu in january. In july, i get 'flu'. I guess it probably was swine flu. But who cares.

Only high risk peeps get Tamiflu, everyone else takes their chances, and we basically ignore it. If you are to have Tamiflu your 'flu "friend" goes and gets your prescription, and collects it for you from your local Tamiflu stockist, currrently the hospitals round here.

When I last spoke to public health this plan was confirmed, but sadly they had not yet got round to telling the hospitals. Fortunately my local pharmacy had some for the one chap who needed it.

Initially we were taking swabs from people who fitted very strict criteria, and then giving them and their contacts Tamiflu. That was in the "containment" phase. The criteria were far to strict to ever identify every case, and therefore, unsuprisingly, this didn't work.

Now, as of 8 days ago, the policy is as I said. We make a judgement as to who has it based on their symptoms (if they call rather than pitch up), and then give Tamiflu only to "high risk" patients.

My local pharmacy had 4 packets of Tamiflu as of a week ago, but they may have been an exception. You are supposed to get it from a regional centre where stocks are held, in this area the hospitals.

I have no idea about the effectiveness of alcohol wipes, but given that it is airborn droplet spread they are unlikely to achieve much.

For what it is worth, in my opinion, if you are a fit healthy individual, you shouldn't worry too much, and just be prepared to take it on the chin so to speak. It is likely to be a mild infection in the vast majority of cases, and there is little you can do to avoid catching it.

That now looks like it's not the case, which I think is something to be very relieved about.

I caught it too. Started coming down on Sunday afternoon, really struggled through the Prodigy, went back to tent. Got home monday, called NHS direct, said DON"T go to docs as will pass it around those who could have underlying health problems. Stay in bed, drink fluids. Crawled back to work on the friday. Not a big problem, was prob ill for about 6 days in all.

thanks for all the info mate

the news channels and i think possibly the swine flu info leaflet were advising people to get the alcohol based handwash stuff, and people did, so much so..that when i went to the local supermarket it was all sold out!

i won't bother getting any, if it's not really any use, perhaps the solution is to become a hermit..so you don't mix with other possibly contaminated people!

Me thinks my partner may have the onset of a cold!! (which feels to him like it!!) I hope many at the festival didnt come into contact with swineflu? but dare say some did. Its hit the south west region so im carrying hand gel and washing hands regularly. Im not out if I really dont need to be and avoid very busy places if I can which in this day and age is prety hard!!

If it does get to us? then guess we'l just try containe it in our house and keep an eye out for each other BUT, who knows who's carrying this virus.

well what i find amusing, is some companies policy on sick days, how you lose a % or your bonus, no sick pay etc

that thereby encourages people to just come in anyway, so they don't lose a lot of money..which of course means it will spread around the office like wildfire

i think thst i caught it from glasto too.. on tuesday morning i woke up feeling awful, i was like wayy to hot, had a cough, cold, muscle ached..

went to doctor, they said i got a throat infection.. later that day had Diarrhea, massive headache, very very very tired, i would litteraly fall asleep anywhere, anytime. had this for 3 days, no way could it just of been a throat infection.. lol.. anyway, atleast if i did have it, then i wont die if i get it in the winter
