Is there any valid reason why they can't park firstcomers close to the gates/fence, then the later people get the further carparks?

It's annoying walking for miles with loads of kit, then returning to the car for the (usually) obligatory 2nd trip to see cars being sent even closer to the entrance. This is scant reward for arriving early.

I know you can move the cars closer later, but that's not the point when you've been stuck in traffic for hours, then have to walk miles to your campsite.

I even saw one carpark empty for no apparent reason until saturday.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Sure you leave quicker (we were parked in east 9 (so far out its not even on the fine guide map) we got there at about 11am on Wednesday. It took over an hour to walk out to the car on wednesday afternoon to get the beer and on the way back with beer more like 90 mins.

Its annoying but we did drive straight out at the end at midday on monday (apparently the busiest time)

Parking at glasto is good, and tbh, its a minor thing anyway, if anything it should be worse to get away if you drive to encourage people to take other forms of transport. If you take the train you generally have to queue for several hours to get to the station - its that they should be addressing, not that people have to wait in their cars.
