  1. The trouble with the 6 headliners thing is in reality there are 3 bone fide headliners and 3 glorified subs/co headliners.

Whichever way we try to look at it, we’ve really got 3 main headliners and three second stage headliners.

2021 and 2022 line ups seem to back this up, as do most peoples guesses/predictions for next year.

Yeah, he’s making her drink an drops some potion or something into her drink.

I think from memory he opens a compartment in his ring and drops the contents into her wine.

EDIT- just had a look on YouTube. About 1min 10 secs in

  3. 1) Gojira - Fortitude

    2) Architects - For those that wish to exist

    3) Turnstile- Glow on

    4) The Bronx - The Bronx

    5) Thrice - Horizons/East

    6) Idles - Crawler

    7) While she Sleeps - Sleeps Society

    8. ) Spiritbox - Eternal Blue

    9) Mastodon - Hushed and Grim

    10) Boss keloid - Family the smiling thrush

Very strong year for me personally and I’ve had to leave out about 5 or 6 that would have got into my top 10 most years.

Locking bands away and stopping them touring for 18 months certainly increased the quality of output this year. Would still rather they were able to play live though obviously.

Cradle of Filth might mix that up 🙂

It would indeed mix it up but I’m not a fan.

Mastodon would probably have made it but it didn’t get released until yesterday and I’m unable to listen to it. I’m currently in Amsterdam and have left my EarPods at home so Mastodon will be my November listening. (I’m sure I’ll have plenty here to keep me busy without needing the new Mastodon to keep me stimulated, haha)

What??  You're voting before hearing the new Sheeran one on Friday!

Joking aside, Magdalena Bay is easily my album of the month at the moment and also high on my AOTY list (as good as it is I can't see it knocking Blue Weekend off my top spot)  Thanks for the recommendation as it would probably have passed me by otherwise 👍

Yeah, I think many of us won’t have to worry about listening to the new Sheeran album before posting their top three haha.

Won’t stop it selling by the boat load though.

Got into a Japanese band called Boris this afternoon released an album in August elements of Stoner, Hardcore,Shoegazing and Thrash. Very good

Yeah, these have been around for a while and are great.

Doubt they sell much merch nowadays though. Can’t imagine many wanting to go around in a T-shirt with ‘Boris’ written on it haha.

I reckon most people don't even look to see if it's sold out or not. I always get tempted by the below face value ones, it's dangerous sometimes to look at that part!

Yeah I always look at the below face value ones too, that’s the only reason I’d buy from Twickets if the event wasn’t sold out.

  8. What confuses me is that you tickets to non sold out shows going for face value on Twickets.

Unless it’s out of the kindness of your heart for an unknown stranger, why would you buy from someone on Twickets rather get your own ticket for the same price officially? (And then sometimes go though the hassle of having to go and meet the person to get the ticket)

Dark Side of the Moon is one of my favourite albums ever, but all prog rock that I've heard by anyone that's not Pink Floyd just sounds annoyingly self indulgent other than one random Caravan song I liked. Need to check out Focus, don't think I've ever heard them. Do you have any recommendations of prog rock bands that I might have missed that aren't totally self indulgent?

I would recommend Porcupine Tree (and Steven Wilson solo)

It’s more modern than all the 70s stuff and personally I think every single album, including Wilson solo, is an absolute classic.

What a weekend, eh. I have spent all weekend listening to new releases and it’s been fantastic. On top of those you’ve mentioned, Can’t Swim have brought a record out this week which is decent. Slow Crush and Green Lung have both had records out his last fortnight and both are solid efforts. What a crazy month for releases!

I’ve also been giving some albums a listen from earlier in the year which I haven’t put on in a while:

    - That last Cannibal Corpse album is bloody excellent and their best since KILL.

    - URNE’s Serpent and Spirit is wonderful and one of the best out and out metal releases of the year.

    - Even Fear Factory’s album is solid. Metal has had a great year.

Yeah, 2021 has been a great year for Rock/metal/punk. Some awesome albums released

    Who says rock is dead?

We did the leaving after the headliner thing in 2016 but after a full day on site in the mud and then a 460 mile drive it wasn’t the wisest decision.  Parked up in a service station and fell asleep. Woke up with a fright thinking I was still driving, saw the car parked in front of me and slammed my foot on the brakes! Nearly shat myself.  so next  summer it’s at least four hours kip on site before attempting the drive. Might even find a B and B on the Monday night in the area.

I did this after Reading festival once (though this was the Monday afternoon haha)

Stopped in the services and had a kip in the car park. Didn’t think I was driving like you but woke up with a start convinced that the cars parked in front of me were stopped traffic on the motorway. Heart was pounding haha

No ‘comedy’ music that tries to be funny is as their main selling point is actually funny. Weird Al, Steel Panther, Tenacious D, Alestorm, The Midnight Beast etc. etc.

Whereas a band like Type O Negative, for example, are hilarious.

More to the point, even if they were funny, who wants to hear the same joke again and again on their iPod and then go and watch them performing the same joke live?

  13.

I’m obviously miles out of synch with the fans of this website.

I only like 8 of those 200 and most of those 8 wouldn’t make my personal best 200 albums of the last 25 years. Haha

For me at the moment I can't get enough of green lungs woodland rites, tis an absolute stormer and one of the best albums I've  heard in years

Yup, same here. Didn’t listen to it much when it came out but started listening about Feb this year and it’s been one of my most played albums of 2021, despite being released in 2019.

My favourite heavier releases of the year so far are Glow On by Turnstile and Nowhere Generation by Rise Against.

Yesterday I listened to Sticky by FC&TR and The Atlas Underground Fire by Tom Morello but I’ve probably not listened enough to form a solid judgement yet. Tom Morello’s is a complete mixed bag but the song with BMTH absolutely slaps and while Sticky sounds alright I can’t help but think Frank veers away from the thing he is best at which is the angry vocals, heavy riffs and breakdowns. I’m not saying that his last couple of releases are bad but I want to hear more Crowbars, My Towns, I Hate Yous, Juggernauts & Devil Inside Of Mes as I know he’s got them in him and these sort of tracks have so much more energy and passion.

Think I need catch up on the Trivium record by the sounds of it.

Also went to a little heavy festival in September called Burn It Down and saw a band called Phoxjaw who were right for a fairly small new band. They released an album last year called Royal Swan which is well worth a listen.

Yeah I’ve seen Phoxjaw a few times around Bristol and they’re great. They’re supporting the Wildhearts at the mo.

It's a tad too fun though. I don't mind the change of direction from hardcover as much as others but it could do with a couple of tracks of Frank being aggro. Joe Talbot probably gives the angriest vocals on the record.

Yeah, Joe Talbot would normally have needed to be a very angry man to out-angry Frank, haha.

I do like the new record though

Agree with every word of this. It's a policy brought in on political grounds not medical grounds. No evidence at all that it makes going to a gig any safer.

I agree with what you’re saying but whether  it makes going to a gig safer or not is irrelevant to what the MVT statement was saying.

it’s neither the MVT, the venue themselves or their staff that has made this rule so the ones giving them abuse or taking it out on them are just idiots.

  19. Just seen this posted by the Music Venue Trust.

Shows the level of common sense out there that they’ve had to post it really.

How can people blame the venues when they aren’t the ones that make the laws? Even worse is that the MVT was against vaccine passports but it has been imposed on them. Yet still people take it out on them. Exasperating.
