  1. There was a comedy sketch with Simon Pegg a few years ago which illustrated just that, I seem to remember every week Ralp McTell at a gig saying here is a song off my next album which took me two years to write.

For the whole song people would shout "Streets of London" lol

Very similar to the morons shouting "Born in the USA" through the Springsteen set a few years ago, but we won't go there hehe

  2. I have been in denial. I do not really think arcade fire will be playing this year, I just can't see it happening. Too many posts assuming they are playing with little decent evidence they will be there. I still think it is/will be a great line up. Elbow then u2 will be the truely awesome so I will be happy

  3. I disagree entirely. They havent always used the confetti etc. It is just what people expect now so it is hard for them to stop. Check out some of their older stuff on youtube before all the bells and whistles. It was fantastic.

They are pigeon holed now - everyone expects the big stage show. But I live in hope they will one day go back to stripped down sets without all the backing tapes etc.

All that being said, they are still my favourite band, confetti or not.

  4. This is actually very similar to how I feel about the flaming lips really.

I know a lot of fans would like to see them scrap all the confetti, the hamster ball etc etc and just stand on stage playing their instruments and play songs from the whole of their back catalogue.

As is rightly pointed out, you dont realise that every single part of somes bands live show are scripted unless you are a bandnerd who goes to more than one leg of a bands tour.

  5. Given that you choose to pose this question to a bunch of people whose only common characteristic is that they're already giddy about an event that's still 4 months away I think we both know what advice you want don't we ? :P

Stop flagellating yourself and buy a bloody ticket!!

  6. Do it the other way round, go to glasto and then pop out to go to the wedding. You will still be at glasto for 4 days. Hotw far away do you live? You can always drive back to glaso sat night so only miss sat night. Everybody's happy

  7. The Queens Head gig in 2008 was the greatest gig I have ever been to, there was genuinely tears in peoples eyes that night it was so awe inspiring. Can't wait to see them in Cambridge on 2nd march. Then glasto. I would love them to Play a smaller venue again this year like they did in 2008 but can't see that happening again. Maybe a Park secret set as well as a Pyramid slot? Oh please

  8. Spoke to Guy Garvey at a Radiohead gig the other Year and he said the only reason they don't play is if they have no new material ready or they aren't asked!

You'll find them there as punters every year anyway.

    My prediction is;

    U2

    Arcade Fire

    Elbow

    Interpol

Just got to wait for the re-sale now with everything crossed.........

  9. This makes me happy :D

"all the best ones, let's put it that way."

Glasto nailed on i'd say but which others do u imagine he's referring to? Leeds exclusive headliner? Bestival per chance?

  10. I have just dribbled in my pants!

He says he will be playing the best festivals this summer. He (and we) know Glasto is the bets festival.

Conclusion - Elbow will be there

  11. I had a few sherberts last night but I am sure I remember reading somewhere on these boards that the headliners were going to be officially announced tomorrow. I wonder what odds you can get for it not to be U2, Coldplay and Bouncy?

  12. Thankyou Michael and Emily.

I'd been to 4 different festivals, going to each a couple of years running, and on the Sunday's of each of those I'd been looking forward to going home. Glastonbury was the first festival where on the Monday morning I was really upset to be leaving.

I echo the other comments here; that some of us aren't from the best backgrounds, some of us hate our jobs and aren't good at socialising, some of us don't like the people we're around at home - but for 5 days, you allow us to forget all of that by welcoming us into your home and giving us the best holidays of our lives.

I don't think you can possibly understand how much it means to us.

Thankyou for all your hard work, I am truly grateful for the wonderful show you put on each year.

I cannot imagine my life without Glastonbury anymore.

  13. ... but you will still be going to Glasto this year won't you? Exactly. The headliners are irrelevant. If you want 'big name' headliners then go to V where they pay for them. Saying that, the 3 headliners we do have are huge by whatever measure you use.

THe point is there are so may other stages, go and try a few out, go to the Bimble Inn, the Queens Head, Croissant Neuf, etc, etc. Go to see someone you have never heard of before. THere are some gems at every stage. How many people outside the BBC coverage realised Radiohead played the Park last year? Everywhere there is quality, everywhere there is something different. Personally I would be happy if the Biggles Wartime Band headlined every night.

Saying all that, if U2 do it right (cut out all of the peripheral nonsense, and play some old tunes the way they used to pre Rattle and Hum) , it could be the greatest GLasto moment ever.

  14. I dont thinkArcade Fire can pull in a crowd like they did when they played the Other Stage last time. Then they were 'the big thing' and everybody wanted to see them. I am not sure they do so much now, personally I was not that fussed with Suburbs (although I take on board that most perople on these forums had it as there album of last year so I should probably go back to it!) Saying that I would still love to see them again, because Funerel is one of may favourite albums and them belting out Tunnels and Wake Up was one of the great Glasto moments for me.

  15. I don't really get this -

Why would keeping the audience relatively static create a crowd control problem? By far the biggest crowd "issues" I've seen at the festival have been when there's been a mass audience shift and the routes in and out of the Pyramid become absolutely rammed with people trying to go in all different directions. Surely 100,000 people all turning up in the 20 minutes before U2 start creates an even bigger problem?

To be honest I don't think that lineups are booked to ensure crowd movement to the extent you suggest. You mention Macca and the Black Eyed Peas - but the day before that Kings Of Leon supported Oasis which guaranteed a large, relatively static crowd in the field for 4 ish hours.

  16. I know what you mean, I am not sure if I like the idea of them playing places like the O2, I don't think they are bigger enough, so I would not expect them to sell these places out. Fortuantely I have tickets to the warm up gig in Cambrdige which only has a capacity of 800 or so, so that will be immense!

I do not think they play Powder Blue these days, its a shame because it is one of their greatest songs.

Also I think SSK is their greatest album. I have been with them from day one, and think they have got progressively better with each album. I think the SSK v LOTFW debate depends on what it is you like about Elbow. I prefer the much slower songs such as Mirrowball, Weather to Fly, Some Riot and Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver on SSK. I am not as keen on the 'louder' Grounds for Divorce type songs which I think there are more of on LOTFW (Station Approash, Forget Myself, Leaders of the Free World, etc). Saying that The Stops and Puncture Repair are brilliant. Its all realtaive though, I think both albums are classics, as are Asleep in the Back and Cast of Thousands

  17. Now a STRONG rumour, praise the Lord!!!

    :)

Also down to play Pyramid. Happy about this, I think I am one of the few who like the rumoured headliners (U2, Coldplay, Prince, Radiohead, Pulp, etc....) so I was dreading a clash with Arcade Fire on the Other Stage
