Fat Boy is always hanging around the site and I know this gets mentioned a lot but is there always room for a Housemartins secret set? Perhaps an acoustic set on the Band Stand.

Nah, somewhere bigger, he should guest on the Pyramid 😊

    Early afternoon Pyramid?

But yeah have to assume she's not in. Baffling.

    Then cost presumably?

I can certainly see why such a legend would want a great slot and fee wherever she plays.

Does anyone else get the feeling Glasto need some new blood with new ideas (to work alongside the old). Why is it taking a forum/ social media to likely be moving the Faithless venue/ night? Likewise have they really thought about all the possible ideas for spreading the crowds on a Thursday? It's been going on for about 6 years. I appreciate you don't want to change a good thing.

As shared yesterday by @parsonjack and @incidentthey're distinctly limited in what they're permitted to do within the terms of the licence.

Getting WiFi coverage for the pyramid field for something like that would be easy (source: I do this as part of my job)

    WiFi doesn't mean internet.

If this was to be a thing, i'd get an app that just does streaming from some beefy servers located on site, which only works when connected to the temp wifi. No outside internet available on the WiFi, just the streaming server / website.

spin up lyrics for the big screens, party time 🙂

Clearly those things cost money (I've had many times I've paid for beefy servers and infrastructure).

I'm keeping the spirits up in a very deflated WhatsApp group.  Got to vent steam somewhere.

Ah fair enough then, I did think it seemed a bit out of character 😊

I think in this economic climate https://www.nme.com/news/music/21-uk-festivals-have-now-been-cancelled-postponed-or-scrapped-with-100-at-permanent-risk-without-action-3600756

And having had to replenish their reserves https://www.billboard.com/pro/glastonbury-festival-2019-financial-loss-covid-19/

It's an incredible achievement that they've not pulled back from their charity commitments https://www.nme.com/news/music/glastonbury-donated-record-breaking-3-7m-to-good-causes-in-2023-3559447

We know that there would be further outcry if they increased ticket prices to provide greater budget for acts who aren't prepared to compromise on their fee, so as I see it they're dancing on the head of a pin.

I think with all that in mind, they've done a great job getting a nigh on gender split and a decent spread of acts, even at this comparatively early stage.

Nah - but definitely an Only At Glastonbury Would I See This MFing Nonsense sort of act in the vein of Eddie Grant or Generation Sex

It was my hilarious joke about your typo

I've thought about this. Obs the issues is all the headphones. So a solution is everyone streams using glasto app/ something simple to download and then use their own headphones.

Or offer both. Say there are limited number of headphones but otherwise use the app.

Too much latency, literally all dancing to a different beat...or none in some cases.

Unless they created a capacious WiFi cell, which would cost and others would try to misuse.

Well no, I'll let him have that one.

When the Housemartins played the pyramid in 1986, during the set someone climbed the speaker stack to the left of the stage to erect a banner to protest about news international and the Wapping strikes.

As I recall there was an expectation they might get upset at this interrupting their show, but hats off to them they encouraged them on.

That and the numerous times he's taken a principled stand or dipped into his pocket to support communities or his fans - he's a top bloke.

    How is it working?

Its a hard sell when you've got 3 people trying who look at you like you're mental when any talk of getting involved with a group on an internet forum to get tickets comes up.

It'd be fine if it was just me trying for us, mainly because anything more complex than "put your details in and buy them" tends to send people into a spin. To put it into perspective, I had to shout at my friend to get on with it when he got through and immediately started posting in the Whatsapp group in October instead of just doing it. He spent so long meticulously checking the numbers on his ipad that it sold out. Another friend wasn't up for our own mini group of two teams where we everyone keeps trying as it seemed like too much.

The normal sale function is a hard sell anyway. Its all good if they do the email then pay thing as no money is involved, though that means less chance as its so much quicker and people can get more help as they don't need payment details.

    Ex friend surely?   😜

Those who wish to be on groups should definitely form them ASAP, get in WhatsApp or whatever and share details to establish relationships.  It's slightly simpler with folks who have a long history of posting here, simply as you know a bit more about each other.

Of course if someone paid for a ticket and then didn't immediately receive funds from the ticket holder, they could follow up a couple of routes to  get money back.

Majority would not recommend sharing payment details unless very well trusted

Listening to Geno gives me goosebumps.

Also, I have never been able to understand some of the lyrics sang because Kevin Rolan's voice doesn't make them clear.

As an aside, one of my brothers mates was in a shop with his mom in Birmingham (back in the day) and Kevin Rowland walked into the shop. My brothers mate mentioned that fact to his mom. His Irish mother then thought that her son knew Kevin Rowland, so went up to Kevin and asked him if he wanted her to repair all the holes in his jeans.

    Ha ha, excellent 😊

I feel like I'm the only person who looked at this lineup and thought it was really good from first blush?

I know everyone hating on it is part of the cycle but it seems very pronounced this year. Maybe I'm just easily pleased but I'm jazzed about acts from top to bottom of this, and looking forward to more names being added.

To me that sounds more like a reason to book lesser known acts than to ditch it entirely - if WG had a full bill of virtual unknowns on the Thursday, then it'd still draw good crowds but without there being as much of an "appointment" that everyone tried to get to.

Wasn't the issue, simply that these days everyone comes wed or thu so increasingly whatever they had would pack the field as the night wore on?

Not like the old days when loads arrived Friday 🧓

Keep going back to look at it in a sort of daze in the hope that I've missed something awesome that's been staring me in the face all along.

Well they make a big thing about booking more female acts and then book two big options at the same time on the two biggest stages so you can only see one?

As with male artists - the fans of one aren't necessarily fans of the other... because they're in different genres.

Aka worst glasters of a generation.

    Depends on the generation.

I remember only two stages and the line up on either could very much have troughs to balance the peaks, but then nobody who went then did so for the line up.

    Open to any suggestions

I've been very happy with Tidal, found all my tracks easily, audio quality better, easy to migrate and their highest quality is about to drop in price nearly 50% pm.  All the other services give the money that Spotify splurges on Rogan (and more besides) to their artists and they don't have a ceo who invests in arms dealers https://www.whathifi.com/best-buys/streaming/best-music-streaming-services

There was a thread a while back with other chat

Sza Pyramid headliner? No matter what people on here say about her streaming numbers, her appeal to Glastonbury demographics is incredibly limited.

Can you just stand at the front of the class and talk us through that phrase please dear?

Well that's simply not true. I have been lots of times and fully aware of the amazing donations they make. That's never stopped them putting on incredible line ups though.

It seems like the main stages are almost complete too which only a few more to be added. That was why I was questioning where the money has gone.

I was surprised that anyone would think they had lots of money to spend.

They lost a fortune during the pandemic https://www.billboard.com/pro/glastonbury-festival-2019-financial-loss-covid-19/

Despite that they have managed to put money back into their reserves (to ensure the festival's future), continue the event and even continue supporting causes.

We know that many artists support them by performing for no fees or less than normal. We even know that a small number have broken ranks and said they wouldn't perform.

We also know that some costs have surged, as they have for other gigs and shows. https://www.nme.com/news/music/21-uk-festivals-have-now-been-cancelled-postponed-or-scrapped-with-100-at-permanent-risk-without-action-3600756

They're also in a challenging position as they can't just put ticket prices up, as that also excludes an increasing number of attendees and as you'd expect plenty in here or other places have strong opinions about that.
