I feel like I'm spamming now, but here are a couple more UK festival line-ups from late July/early August, announced in the past few hours. Rick Astley anyone? 😉

We tend to watch the headliners whether we're big fans of them or not. Obviously, it's preferable that we like them but appreciate that everyone has different tastes. This year, I'm resigned to the fact that the majority will not be to our taste.

We're far more concerned at the fact that the acts lower down the line-up mostly disinterest us.

I agree. It makes me think of metal festivals I go to, for example Hellfest : in 2019 and 2023, I attended NONE of the headliners lol, still it remains my favorite festival because the undercard is gold.

I expect kind of the same with Sziget this year, I ended up accepting that the headliners would not be at the level of 2022

to simply put, bands that would make a decisive factor and when people see the announcement they would actually consider buying a ticket for at least a day pass for the festival.

Good example of that was Imagine Dragons and Billie Eilish last year. Whatever you may think about their music, they are huge names and people would go to the festival just to see their act.

Another good indicator would be if you had those names on a poster and showed it to random people on the street whether they would recognize the names there or not. Acts listed by rowexx - Lana, Jorja, James Blake, Jungle, RAYE, Sevdaliza, Kali Uchis, Bicep, Charli XCX, 21 Savage,  Omar Apollo, Maneskin, Troye Sivan, FKA Twigs, Arca, Kim Petras, I can guarantee you that out of 100 people, you would find max 10 that would recognize more than 3 acts there, with 2 being Lana and Maneskin.

    As for other festivals headliners..

Take for example Mad Cool: Dua Lipa, Smashing Pumpkins, Nothing but Thieves, Garbage, Pearl Jam, Avril Lavigne, SUM 41, Jessie Ware, Bring me the horizon. Musical taste aside, the hypothetical 100 people from the example above, at least 50% of those would recognize at least 3-4 acts from there (unless you pick 100 people that only listen to domestic music or sth like that)

Rock Werchter has, in addition to some of the above acts Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol and Lenny Kravitz who are all 3 bigger individually than all of the current Sziget acts all pilled together (if you leave out Fred again and Sam Smith).

"Outdated" or not (however silly that idea sounds in the first place) some of those bands (like Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage or The Offspring) would sell more festival and daily passes then, for example, Stormzy or Louis Tomlinson.

    @Newjem, I think this is a good resume ^^

I 90% of the time agree with you man, but there is a WORLD between Sziget's line up and RW - Mad Cools' ones lol..

Being aware of some "bands cost" (sorry I don't know the english word or expression) in some French festivals, I can swear to you that Mad cool and Rock Werchter did spent way more money on their line up than Sziget so far.

Yeah to me they are very recognizable at least and I'd love to see a few of those names

yep, "recognizable"... but average. Nice average names for an average festivaL.

We think (we thought) that Sziget was a Major Festival.

Lana del Rey & Catfish and the Bottlemen

(Speaking of "only popular in the U.K", ladies and gentlemen, Catfish and the Bottlemen ! 😄 )

Just so everyone realise lol : Catfish is 2.4M listenners/month. Aurora is 12M.

EVEN Mumford and Sons are more popular (10.5M/month). And we remember the small crowd last year at Sziget...

I really don't understand these complaints about these DJ announcements, which will be 100% sure Colosseum/Party Arena artists... What else you can expect on these electronic music stages? Strokes headlining Party arena? Biffy Clyro takes over Colosseum? In addition, have to say that these first phase DJs (Artbat, Richie, Honey Dijon, Dom Dolla, Argy..) are very strong bookings, IF you are in to these genres. If you are not, then why bother to complain about these Party Arena/Colosseum booking? 😃

many of these names will be at A38 stage...even last year, Sziget began to fill the A38 with dj's acts, more than before.

To me, Collosseum and Party Arena are enough for dj's, eletro music etc... so I would like Sziget to let the A38 stage out of this genre.

Are Snow Patrol and Keane meant to be examples of exciting names? 😂

Half of these are WELL past their sell by date

lol I let everyone judge those names 😅 , but at least these are BANDS, that I personnaly would prefer instead of Richie Hawtin, Honey Dijon, Dom Dolla, Anotr, ... dj's, dj's, and only dj's ... 😡🤬

  8. Biffy Clyro / Snow Patrol / Maneskin / Korn / Queens of the Stone Age / The Offspring / Idles / Keane / Motionless in White / Wet Leg / Pixies / Inhaler / ...

Here are some example of bands touring in Europe in August. And that's only the ones I'm aware of ! Because I believe many European acts could be available if they were asked.

My point is : Sziget 2024 is, so far, a Discount Edition. The new owners + the booker are f**king us up with their low line-up budget.

This will be our 4th visit to Sziget since 2019. We come from the UK as a family of 4. We stay in the city. This year, our flights, accommodation and festival tickets have cost us around £2000.

    This is not a £2000 line-up.

Regarding who it appeals to, we had four different groups of people waiting on the line-up before deciding to come with us. Their details and responses are:

    Couple, aged 48 and 32 - No

Family, aged between 42 and 9 - No

Three of my daughter's friends all aged 19 - No

    Couple aged 33 and 29 - No

I really feel they need to get another announcement out as soon as possible because people are going to start choosing other festivals pretty damn quick.

Damn, I really feel sorry for you... We all expected way more from Sziget, the disappointment is huge... 😞

With the relatively week werchter and mad cool lineups, the sziget headliners were always going to be weak.

to be honest, it's the undercard that disappoint and annoys me the most. Garrix and Fred Again.., even if we don't like them, they are headline material (but Stormzy is clearly not, I agree).

To be honest I wouldn't be so excited having Lana del Rey on the lineup and I guess that's because it still feels like her concert at Sziget was only 2 years ago. That's one of the pandemic effects on myself haha.

Rihanna isn't a great example btw, her show was one of the worsts I have ever seen at Sziget (and I go since 2015). She didn't come with a band and at least 90% of her concert was lip-syncing. I guess a real Rihanna live show was too expensive back then, so she was an example of another very bad booking but I can understand the logic behind it: both parties ignored the quality and both were milking the cash cow.

oh trust me lol, I agree with you, I'd hate to see Lana Del Rey again 😅 About Rihanna I can't tell, wasn't there, but at least they TRIED to book a huge, popular (and expensive !) act.

  10. 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮

I understand why @Sziget2024_Leaks is afraid to come back here to read us. He/She is aware of the weakness of this announcement. Instagram comments are violents lol...

Truth is, BANDS are more expensive to book than SOLO artists, whether you like it or not. And since the Americans took control of Sziget, their line-up budget IS smaller year after year, that's a fact.

The example of Lana Del Rey is a proof : every festival who wanted her, HAVE her. Not Sziget. Same for Maneskin. Why that ? Because they have to "negociate" ... it's only a matter of money guys, which Sziget is not willing to give anymore.

And that PISSES ME OFF. Sziget use to be a great, even maybe the greatest festival in Europe. David Bowie, Prince back in the days... or even Rihanna, P!nk, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, they were all the bests of their categorys ! and Undercards were great !

Now it's only new names/solo names, which are cheaper than confirmed names/bands.

  11. can't believe Stormzy is a headliner... with Sam Smith, that would be 2 names that aren't headline materials elsewhere..

well, sounds like a surprising "discount 30th birthday" to me ... + names like big thief, yard act, overmono.. these aren"t even "second zone" names...

This is the first time I'm afraid of the line-up lol.

BFMV said they won’t tour in 2024. Breaking Benjamin rarely go on Europe tour, I think it happened only two times.

That’s not 100% accurate poster, but I hope most of the bands will be there.

jimmywe said announcement will follow soon, maybe week before Christmas

Indeed, Breaking Benjamin's lead singer has a phobia : planes... i think when he came to Europe, he took the boat (or am I wrong ?)

So I have doubts about that poster... but hey, who knows... that would be great though

    To headline A38 - sure.
Not an artist for Sziget's target audience, but her new album had some good reviews, so not impossible.

Yep, Kylie Minogue last album is quite good.. ! But as @kristofm said, I think that Sziget don't book this kind of artists anymore...sadly...

And with their "under 21 years old" offer, I'm really afraid of this fest' future for us lol.. (I'm 36 ^^)

That’s an absolutely fantastic line up. It has jumped right to the top of my August festival shortlist. When does this festival usually sell out?

daily tickets don't sell out too quickly. But 2 days, 3 days and mostly 4 days can sold out quite early..

If they'd had Pulp instead of Maneskin (thought they might have, unsure where they'll play in France now?) this would have sold me a ticket. Other than The Offspring I haven't seen any of the top 3 lines and want to see all of them next year.

Pulp isn't that popular outside the U.K, but Maneskin is ^^
