  1. I’d missed the fact that Bjork has announced a new album (fossora). First single out soon supposedly - maybe tomorrow? GM ‘23 here we go!!!
  2. Nice! Don’t know any of those apart from Fraulein so will check them out. I find following So Young Magazine’s features usually give you a good indication of the likely bands, particularly the ones who have only released a few songs.
  3. Okay I am loving all of these wish lists so might as well do one. Have tried to be (semi) realistic. I'm not too fussed about the headliners but if they could book either one of Pavement or Bjork, that would be perfect. Obviously Sufjan would be incredible too. I would love Sigur Ros to headline as they are one of my all time favourite bands. Mountain stage: Alvvays, Weyes Blood, Anna Calvi, Bat For Lashes, The Avalanches, Melody's Echo Chamber, Nathalie Lafoucarde, Julien Baker, Julia Holter, Goldfrapp. Far Out: Just Mustard, Huun-Huur-Tu, Anna Von Hausswolff, caroline, Haru Nemuri, Swans, Bikini Kill, Dan Deacon, Les Savy Fav, Protomartyr, RAY, tricot, Circuit des Yeux, Otoboke Beaver, SLIFT, Parannoul, Elori Saxl, Rachika Naya, Virgina Wing, Horsegirl, Audiobooks, Kero Kero Bonito, Gilla Band, L'Rain. Walled Garden: Anna B Savage, Hatchie, Grouper, Silvana Estrada, Owen Pallett, Brooke Bentham, Mabe Fratti, Katie Malco, Skullcrusher, Katy Kirby, Yasmin Williams, skirts, Timbre, Ada Lea. Rising: Legss, Kyoto Kyoto, Ugly (UK), O.
  4. Would love Low and Beverly Glenn-Copeland to be booked again, health permitting. GM are always going to have a solid line up but I just hope thst they manage to book similarly culturally diverse acts next year. I thought this year’s line up was excellent in that respect. Acts like Dur-Dur Band, Wau Wau Colleftif, Otoboke Beaver (they were booked for 2020) and Orchestra Poly-Rhythmo de Cotonou would be cool but there’s loads of other possibilities and loads I wouldn’t have heard of.
  5. That would be a fantastic undercard. Alvvays surely a shoe in if they tour Europe next summer. Swans would absolutely destroy a Far Out headliner slot. I’ve been hoping for a Mount Eerie/Microphones set for a long time. Has he ever played a UK fest? Maybe a while ago perhaps but can’t recall him doing one recently.
  6. Jamie XX is a great shout for a dancier headliner. I’m not a fan but I just mean that is a possibility that I hadn’t considered previously.
  7. She has headlined GM before and GM have only rarely repeated headliners (Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom are the only examples I think). Could be possible though!
  8. Agreed. Would be much more exciting if someone like Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Sigur Ros did it, who have been absent from U.K. festivals for a while (I think). Obviously Pavement would be huge as well, just seems to good to be true.
  9. Yeah I think Mac is unfortunately quite likely. Simz definitely possible. Thought it was on this year. I’m just worried she is too big now? Other dancier options would be Jon Hopkins and Bonobo I reckon. Avalanches as well but think they would be sub headliner level.
  10. GM have been fairly vocal about trying to book The National and Bon Iver, but have said they said they are probably beyond their reach now. Bjork and Pavement seem on the outer limit of who they could book, but both are arguably similar to Kraftwerk who they managed to book. I think Sigur Ros are exactly the right sort of size. Same with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Not sure where to place Phoebe and Simz, as both have had pretty meteoritic rises in the last year. Any of these acts would be very strong and if one of them were booked, then I’d expect the others to be a fair bit smaller. Idles and Mac Demarco, for example.
  11. I believe the payment plan was eventually brought back this year even though it wasn’t initially. So yes, I expect it will be in place this year but it’s not been confirmed anywhere as far as I know
  12. Yes I think so. It previously took several months. Though it’s getting quicker and quicker each year.
  13. Bring it on! Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sigur Ros - Phoebe Bridgers
  14. I take your point but who really cares 😂
  15. If you include the online festival they did in 2020, then this last festival was the 20th festival that has occurred. So it sort of makes sense.
  16. Hope everyone had an amazing festival! I’m so sad it’s over and am lamenting a whole year to wait for the next one! My overly detailed thoughts are below. Summary I had an incredible time at my second Green Man. First and foremost, the music was exceptionally good. We also had amazing weather, food options and of course the stunning scenery that GM offers. A couple of mornings I went exploring up the mountains that you can see behind the mountain stage, which was wonderful. Organisationally, I thought it was superb. No issues getting in or out by car and the loos were awesome (for a festival!). It was my birthday on the Saturday, which was really special. My friends bought me Jenny Hval’s new album on vinyl and managed to get the Green Man postman to deliver me a birthday card during Lemondaze. Thanks guys! Music The vast majority of what I saw was great/exceptional. My highlights were Arooj Aftab, Jenny Hval and Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupul. All three of those were up there with my favourite live shows of all time. I managed to see close to 40 other acts. I really enjoyed Mdou Moctar, Jonny Francis Flynn, Minyo Crusaders, Sofia Kourtesis, Minyo Crusaders, Ichiko Aoba, Cassandra Jenkins, Orchestra Baobab, Jessie Buckley, BCUC and Carwyn Ellis. The rising stage was so good this year and thought Deathcrash, M(h)aol, Blue Bendy, Lemondaze and Tapir! were all so good! I was very pleasantly surprised by the lack of talkers during Arooj Aftab and Ichiko Aoba, both of whom I was worried would be ruined by that. You could hear a pin drop during Arooj’s set in particular. I thought the diversity of the line up was exceptional. For example, going from Irish folk music, to desert rock from Niger, to the luscious sounds of Cassandra Jenkins, to Senegalese dance music and then on to Zambian psych rock was just so cool and meant things never got boring. Slight disappointments were: Torres (sound issues), wish I had seen Kae Tempest and not WITCH, who were a let down as I had bigged them up in my head way too much, leaving Beach House early to get a good spot for Bicep, and then not really enjoying Bicep that much (should have stayed for BH’s full set). Kraftwerk were also a bit of let down, but was kind of expecting that. Cool to see them nonetheless. Other comments - Thought the site was so clean. Thank you to all the volunteers! - 99% of people I came across were so nice. It’s amazing how much of an injection of positivity you get when you enter the site, and that’s a testament to the manner in which GM organise the event and to all the great people who attend. - I bumped into @JHadon a number of occasions at the Rising stage, which was cool. A very nice guy! - I personally love seeing the wide variety of ages at GM. The young children don’t bother me personally and didn’t experience any issues involving entitlement parents (maybe I was just lucky). It’s so cool to see young kids enjoying the music. I hope to bring my future children to GM one day. I do agree that you shouldn’t be bringing young children in wagons to the front of stages though, that seems very dangerous to me. - Mountain Stage being open on Thursday was a huge positive and I hope they keep that in place in the future. I recall it being extremely busy in Far Out for PSB in 2018. - I managed to get into that secret Cabaret bar on the last night, but I expect it would have been even funner earlier on in the weekend when I thing the drag acts were actually there! It was till cool and I think putting late night things on in more intimate places is a good idea. The FO stage often looks a bit dead for the really late night stuff, and would be a lot funnier in somewhere like Round the Twist (where the current stuff is a bit lacklustre in my experience). - Being able to walk from one stage to the next in 10 minutes max while always being able to get right to the front provided you arrive just a few minutes before they start is just so good and makes me wonder whether I could ever do Glastonbury! - I had a lower body massage Saturday morning and we also did the bathing under the sky thing on Sunday morning. I would strongly recommend both despite the added expense. Both were so relaxing and made us feel so much more put together for the rest of the day! Next year I hope to go next year, and every year thereafter, plans permitting! I really don’t think GM need to change much. I hope it doesn’t get bigger. Was thinking about headliners for next year… I really hope Phoebe Bridgers headlines next year if she is still touring (perhaps she will take a break). I’d also love to see Pavement booked. GM or EOTR seem like the most likely candidates if they decide to do festivals next year. I can also see Sigur Ros headlining, as they seem to be pretty active again following the album announcement. See you in the Green Man 2023 thread!
  17. Saturday for me will look like this: Ichiko Aoba > Donny Benét > Minyo Crusaders > Lemondaze > Blue Bendy > Mdou Moctar > Deathcrash > Aleg G > Arooj Aftab > TORRES > Beach House > Bicep > Optimo As @benali has already said, Ichiko Aoba will be an incredibly beautiful set. I am a little bit worried about how she will fare on such a big stage as I am presuming she will not be bringing an orchestra with her (like she sometimes does for her own shows) and it will instead just be her. However, she is incredibly talented and has an unbelievably beautiful voice so I expect it will still be extremely good. Donny Benét is an Aussie bloke making sleazy/cheesy post-disco bangers. Might not be your thing but i think he'll be a lot of fun! Was hoping he'd be after dark on the Walled Garden as I think people would be more up for it then but should still be good. Minyo Crusaders are a 10-piece Japanese group doing traditional Japanese music but heavily influenced by non-Japanese musical sounds like afro-funk, reggae, ethio-kazz, bolero etc. There's a really good recording online of their set at Le Guess Who? from a few years ago, which I would definitely recommend. Lemondaze are a very good shoegaze band. They supported Ride this year and if you're into Ride/Slowdive then you'll probably enjoy them. Mdou Moctar is a musician from Niger who plays guitar-led blues/rock/psychedelic stuff. He's a very talented guitarist and will play with a full band. Will be a lot of fun, I'm sure.
  18. Thank you to @SweepingTheNation for updating the Clashfinder. I've made some very minor amendments based on some comments i've seen from GM and other artists, as follows: Bicep overlap with Beach House by 15 mins No/minimal clash between Low and Dry Cleaning It's possible to see some of Cate Le Bon and Kraftwerk (i.e. not a full on clash - MK and PC is a full on clash) WITCH and Orchestra Baobab don't clash Cassandra Jenkins and Kelly Forsyth do clash (😭) Adwaith and Metronomy don't clash, but Metronomy do clash with Pip Blom (and it's full on clash) Scalping confirmed for 1 am I've added the Rising competition artists who I think will all play Rising at some point (thought the days/times will probably need to change). I think there are some gaps to be filled on Mountain Stage and FO on Sunday. GM have said there are a couple more acts to be announced - I wonder if there will be any surprises... https://clashfinder.com/s/gm2022/ GM 22 playlist:
  19. Hello everyone!! Took a bit of break from efests when all that stuff was happening a while back but I am all good and as anyone who has been on the discord will know have continued to be obsessive about all things GM. Firstly, how bloody good is this line up!?! I am SO excited. Secondly, I will have a little tinker with the Clashfinder over the weekend as GM have been quite vocal about certain clashes. I’ll continue to update it as we go and will keep an eye out for the exact stage times when settlers start arriving (looking at @benali in particular!). Thirdly, hope everyone has an amazing time at the festival! If you see anyone running through the camp in the morning with trekking poles looking like a lunatic that will be me (I’m training for an mountain ultramarathon at the moment) so please do heckle me!
  20. Complete speculation, likely a pipe dream.
  21. Yeah you are probably right. I agree that they are more of a Far Out type band. I was probably struggling for room when I did it. They did once have Fat White Family on the Mountain Stage which made me think it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
  22. Not really. I think the only thing we know for certain is that they won’t clash with Kraftwerk, given that Kraftwerk are at APE on Saturday and Bicep are playing GM on Saturday (according to their website). The most likely scenario seems to be that they will headline the Far Out stage against Michael Kiwanuka or Beach House (I think Michael Kiwanuka makes the most sense).
  23. Thank you, very helpful. This is probably a very stupid question but it’s not camping is it? And the venues are all indoor? I guess people usually just stay in Utrecht somewhere?
