I think the inflation vs band fee thing might get a bit interesting for Glastonbury over the next couple of years. They're notoriously low payers (I've seen from friends who've booked the disparity of what they get vs any other festival – it's quite something), and at some point touring for small acts in particular is going to get so tight that they'll be wondering if taking that loss is even worth it. The "great exposure!!!" thing is fine until you're faced with one gig losing you hundreds, even thousands of pounds.

Greentea Peng had to cancel her tour earlier this year for cost reasons, so it's already happening and I wouldn't even call her 'small'...

Think this may be my last. Personally, this year’s line up is the worst I’ve experienced. Add in another bad experience with having coach tickets and the general mob of Instagram/bucket listers that don’t seem to understand the ethos of the festival, and I’m definitely struggling to enjoy it this time.

I saw 4 lads pissing against a fence on Wednesday afternoon, less than 20m to the nearest toilets. I called them out on it and received abuse.

Maybe I’m just having some bad luck so far. Williams Green yesterday was a joke, I’ve never seen it that bad. In fact, it just seems way more crowded this time. Has capacity gone up?

I think the lineup is extremely strong, so am surprised by this. It's very deep and there would be clashes for me everyday.

In terms of the crowd, I am seeing a lot of 'social media' people putting up posts just so they can be seen to be there.

I'm about 34 now, but I have noticed there seems to be a lot of 'idiots' in the younger generation coming through - so your 18-23 year old range...

I'm here for some TV/iplayer watching!!! If I can mange it through the tears .

Thanks for posting the TV guide very useful @SweepingTheNation

Confidence Man is a great shout, in for that.

Hoping they get a lively crowd as they are a group that sort of thrive off the energy off the live crowd. Lots of fun when they arre up and running.

A bigger issue will probably be that they’re gonna be absolutely shattered and jet lagged to fuck. But at least they’ll be there.

They should get some ermmm, red bulls down them....

Think when they get on stage the adrenaline will kick in anyway.

Much like Premier League football, the price increases for festivals change the dynamic of the crowd and, in my opinion, not for the better.

Add in the move towards booking more mainstream artists at Glastonbury and the demographic of people who go now to the those who went 20 years ago is totally different.

When I look at the line up you still have the "old" Glastonbury there, but it's very much second place to the "new" Glastonbury which is what no doubt causes the huge rush for tickets and allows prices to increase.

I haven't been for years but the impression I get is that there are more people going now because it's something they want to tick off the bucket list and show off about on social media, rather than it just being part of their normal summer festival cycle.

Of course festivals evolve, and that's partly to make sure they sell enough tickets in a competitive market, however I'm not sure Glastonbury needed to do that as much as some of the others?

Yeah the amount of social media posts I'm getting of "look I'm at Glastonbury" is kind of cringe....

Which is fine imo, the more the merrier etc. But if they only increase parking/camping and not the physical size of the social areas then they may run into some problems at some point.

Don't agree with this, there comes a point where the 'less is more' rule needs to apply.

    Feels very overcrowded to me.

Also think they need to re-think Thursday. Bin off the WG set and maybe put it on a stage like West Holts? At least it can cope with large numbers of people. Took nearly an hour to get from WG to Other

They've expanded to 220k this year, up from 203k in 2019 I believe.

There does come a point where it gets stupid and has an impact on peoples ability to enjoy it. As much as I would love to be there, part of me can';t be assed with that many people now. I like my 4/5k festivals.

  10. I just did meadows in the mountains in Bulgaria, an incredible festival and location.

Then I've got Noisily and SGP in July which should give me my fix. Although it does make it hard seeing people boarding coaches in Bristol again this morning...

I'm really hoping they show up somewhere else on Saturday or Sunday as they're stuck in the middle of clash-Friday and I'd love to see them.

Saw them play in Bristol recently and they are fucking excellent live.

Gate A was an absolute shit show. On a hot year, I always pack lots of frozen water and capri sun's and ended up giving 4 or 5 out to people absolutely desperate in the queue. One poor lad offered me £20 for one and looked very sorry for himself. I would never charge of course! Once we were in, we got a pass out to get our second lot of stuff in and there were cans of water offered everywhere...AFTER the queue had completely ended. Very poor organisation.

    .

Find it weird that people don't think to bring ample supply of water for a Glastonbury queue in the heat....

Did they all think it would be a 15 min line?

I have never seen this many people on site on a Wednesday before.

It was to be expected really, it's been 3 years since the last one and people are ready to go.

I'm surprised that they didn't seem prepared for this - appeared obvious to me.

Yep fuck this shit. Just got onto a worthy view shuttle bus. Might not have AC. Boiling sweat bath in here.

took almost 2 hours to get tickets and now its 3:45 on the shuttle.

arrived off coach at 12:15. So yeah, 4 hours to do 2 simple things is bullshit.

Your first beer/cider will go down a treat.

The forcast is the best perhaps of the ones I went to: 14 and 15 and the shitshow that was 16.

BBC STICK! Are they using ECMWF by any chance?

15 weather wise was extremely good.

Hi anyone ever been to sgp before? I’m very experienced festival goer, never done sgp before so have a few questions if anyone can help

    1) how strict is this 8 cans only rule? I’m confused as to why this is enforced (I get need to support the festival but 8 cans over four days is a piss take)

    2) is their a shop on site so you can buy beer for the campsite?

    3) how strict is the search if you were to hide some beer 😂 also the no personal speakers allowed? Is that really enforced?

I have a few more so I’ll see what reaction this gets first before going on a mad q&a

    cheers

Did 2014 and 2016 and for memory they did search through peoples bags in 2014, for a while anyway and then people were getting fed up in line and they started putting people through.

    2) is their a shop on site so you can buy beer for the campsite?

Theres loads of bars, but there isn't an 'off license' so to speak...

Think when they mention the speakers they literally mean a sound system and generator.

Has there even been a festival that has had a dry start on dry ground and then a few days of light showers? What would that even do to the ground? All I can think of are either mudfests, heatwaves or ones where it has been mostly dry but then one big storm that made loads of mud that then dried up. Has there been a recent glastonbury which has had 3 days of (just) light rain?

2015 was dry the week leading up and for most of the festival aside from either the Friday or Saturday where it rained heavily for a few hours and the site went muddy quickly.

  18. Looks like you lucky fuckers are basically getting the perfect week for it weather wise.

Dry and hot leading up to the festival, with some cooler respite for the Saturday and Sunday which are the hardest days.

Rain on Friday night won't be a huge issue as it'll be dry by Saturday afternoon.
