When you see some of the undue flack they received prior to the festival, including on this board, I think it’s safe to say that Boomtown have more than secured their future. Already can’t wait for next year

I didn't even go to Boomtown, but saw some of the reactions to the lineup and was like 'wtf'?

The whole point of Boomtown is supposed to be about the production and sound. Lineup is secondary and it was weird people were so assy about it...

Personally think punters need to wind their necks in a bit at the moment, as there seems to be a lot of entitlement that has krept in. Most festivals nearly went broke over the last few years and as long as they can run a professional, well organised event this year - then thats a tick. SGP was a festival that was absolutely worthy of the hate this year though.

As I recall, in 2016 no one was cooking in their cars and yet a whole load of them went up in flames. I understand people's frustration at being restricted from doing what they want to but it's very selfish to say "I am prepared to risk it," when you're not just taking that risk for yourself.

And if the food you get to eat is your big priority, why aren't you going to the Feastival thing with Alex James?

I think its bonkers people kick off about this stuff given the circumstance, it just reaks of an entitlement that I'm fed up of these days...

If you don't like it, don't fucking go.... It's a private event ffs.

Quite a lot of folk I know who didn't go this year but watched on the telly have mentioned Confidence Man. That set and the crowd going bananas for it at 2pm has obviously done wonders for their rep.

Its all well earned, I saw them live in Bristol and they bring it every time.

  4. Shocked by how much Con Man have exploded, they've had 5 shows sell out this morning in a few minutes. I was at a festival on the weekend and the camp site next to us was busting out their tunes on a speaker and they had only heard about them via the performance on iPlayer.

I was at the Bristol show a few months ago and for memory that only sold out the day of the gig. Goes to show how much exposure Glastonbury gives you and they knocked the performance out of the park as well.

They could do almost do an Other stage slot imo.

@MrBarry465 Any comment on your Chemical Brothers BS rumour? Not sure what you gain from lying to people, very odd.

I wasn't 'lying' I had been given that information by someone who was doing bookings for the festival. I asked multiple members of staff over the weekend on site and they all believed the same to be true as well.

To me it sounds like some of the people doing bookings had been given false information to hype the event up.

  6. I had elements of fun but for the most part I found it a total shit shot. Everything felt like an effort, there weren't enough food stalls on site and this created queues that were ridiculous. Then you get to the front to be told "it's cash only"....

I also just felt like there was loads of aimless wandering as it just wasn't clear anywhere who was playing on which stage.

Then you had the element of obscene amounts of rubbish literally everywhere. Walking through the He She They stage yesterday, there was rubbish literally everywhere and nos cannisters all over the place. The toilets have already been well mentioned so I won't go there.

I went in 2014 and 2016, but won't be going back again. The festival has become too commercialised now and there's other festivals which do what SGP aims to do, a lot better.

We left on Sunday afternoon, which I've not done at a festival for a long long time.

I thought it was one 24 hour stage. The rest of it, the Thursday everything stopped at midnight, fri and sat went on til 6am, and the Sunday was midnight

Yeah I mean, the last time I went was in 2016 so it's all a bit hazey atm....

Chemical Brothers seems silly big for this event surely? Would their main stage realistically fit their production i guess it might be different this year vs other editions but based off google images it looks unworkable. anyone on site got photos?

It's a 'legacy set' its not a full on typical set with the proper production.

EDIT: Hope you are well Barry and still wearing that mask.  I remember how passionate you was about that.

No I've not worn a mask since last year and have been to several festivals now/leading a normal life. Been jabbed 3 times.

I haven't thought about COVID since I had it late last year, but if I tested positive then no I would be avoiding people and not just pretending I didn't have it like some on here think is totally fine to do....

Its all been a great example of how governments control people to the point they abandon all sense of reason and balance.  I just never thought it would take so long for people to reset back.

It's also highlighted that our behaviour pre pandemic of 'going out or to work when ill' was probably pretty fucking stupid all along?

Literally no clue why you think people should be out and about when ill, regardless of COVID.

  11. 13 minutes ago, Zampa said:

Well we should be on about 2 million deaths a day by now. We aren't. It's a load of old bollocks to control you and am surprised how many people have fallen for it. Especially Glastonbury types.

The government are a bunch of tools who lie constantly, Covid yep let's believe them. Madness.

180k deaths and plenty of people who have had long term health complications as a result of it, many of them previously healthy. I mean a colleague I am working with has had chronic fatigue since catching it in 2020.

Life had / has to return to normal, but playing the whole 'lets only look at deaths and nothing else' is just nonsense. Don't try and bury something under the carpet because you think it suits your narrative.

Did you respond just to be abusive.

Should we live in fear for ever or just crack on?

Yes people will die, they always do. This is no more dangerous than trying to cross the road. We have been sold bollocks by a government who shouldn't be believed. But Covid, yep let's trust them.

yeah I've been crossing roads for 34 years and cycling on them and never been hit or had an accident. I've had COVID twice since 2020.

I'd suggest you are the child. Someone has a different opinion, you attack them. Like a 5 year old who isn't allowed a bag of Haribo.

Now I don't give a flying fuck if you like to constantly test for COVID, but attacking people for thinking what a load of old bollocks it is, shows you the person you are.

Tolerant but only if I agree.

Have a look in a mirror.

But what evidence do you have that it's a 'load of old bollocks'?

Your just being illogical for the sake of it.

  14. 7 minutes ago, Zampa said:

Sweet jesus, its not killing 50 plus people a day. 50 plus people a day are dying and when tested they are positive with COVID. COVID didn't kill them, their ill health did. I'll happily be called a troll for having a different opinion. All I can say is, stay at home, never leave and let us carry on with our lives. It's a sniffle, nothing more nothing less.

Did you create an account to come onto this forum and spout crap?

I had COVID at the end of last year and it's not a 'sniffle' - this constant downplaying is just as nonsensical as overplaying it.

It's extremely dangerous for a lot of people and for most of us it will hit us reasonably hard. There are of course people who don't get it bad as well....
