  1. Was there ever confirmation the riff was nicked by The Sweet? I seem to remember Blockbuster came out before Jean Genie? At the time, it was assumed The Sweet stole it off Bowie. And, like everything, neither was completely original but it was odd they both came out within a short time of each other.

  2. The only time I’m thinking don’t miss Richard Thompson at the Acoustic and he’s not playing!

I always find a couple of interesting acts on their line up but this time I’m seen the ones I’m really interested in. Maybe give Judy Collins a go.

Vampire Weekend is lovely if you like Vampire Weekend. Could do with some sunny days for it to hit right.

I'm enjoying Bob Vylan as well again nothing massively different from them but a decent album nonetheless.

@Avalon_FieldsHave you listened to Katherine Priddy's new one seem to recall you were a fan - been out about a month now so not exactly brand new.

No. I’m not really sure why I haven’t. I really like her first album and a friend said the second was really good. I need to sort myself out!!

  4. No, it was busy but not uncomfortable. She really teased the crowd with false starts to her big hit Shout and the tent got lively then.

One of her stories was being in the studio with the Bee Gees. Two of them were playing the idea of a song, Barry turned up late and just walked into the studio and immediately started singing some lyrics. There and then it became one of their biggest hits.

  5. She was superb at the Avalon when she played some years ago. Told some good stories about her life too, including the Bee Gees and others.

It was a thing but I don’t know if I’d want to do it. My clothes smell enough on the way home without adding rotten tomatoes to the bouquet

My son was there. He was in a state afterwards. I put him in a large bin bag otherwise he wasn’t getting a lift home!

Elton John was the most popular headliner the festival has ever had, Glastonbury is more popular and more of a FOMO thing than ever due to social media etc, and to people not terminally online and/or music snobs like a lot of us on here Coldplay and Dua are two massive headliners (Coldplay especially given Glastonbury is the only festival they ever do these days and the association they have with it). Really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that most people who managed to bag a golden ticket aren’t keen to hand it back over this year. Glastonbury’s reputation is bigger than any potentially weaker lineup.

Absolutely. We should expect just a few minutes for the resale to be over.

The map could do with a freshen up. i would focus on the inside of the fence, take off the car parks and camper fields, would allow more detail of the inside of the fence. then maybe make it interactive as well, so you can see pics of where you are and the stages, markets and attractions. Just a thought

It’s a fair comment, ideally I’d like to see the map include every stage but I recognise that’s a challenge. They could do with having a full map in the festival program, and the basic one elsewhere

Finally got my copy of Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood delivered, after the first was lost in transit (thanks to rough trade for sending a replacement).

Album of the year so far by a country mile for me! It will take one hell of an album to displace it.

I love it, just so happens I’m playing it now, have revisited Saint Cloud too. Really frustrated I can’t see her later in the year on tour.

I’m already enthused with several albums this year: Brittany Howard, MGMT, Julia Holter, Lee Scratch Perry, and have high hopes for Vampire Weekend which I’ve yet to play. Black Keys is decent too.

thanks but i don't really count WG as a stage that counts for much, i was more-meaning the regular stages.

I know, I agree, and I can’t find any examples, certainly none going back many years.

  11. Franz Ferdinand replaced Babyshambles as The Park headliners in 2008 very last minute. Don't know if it was a proper secret set or that it was just so late in organising.

As you're here and you know lots of stuff has there ever been a headliner slot that's a secret act?

I guess you can call William's Green two 'live bands' headlining the Thursday night as such? (2016, for example), but other than that I don't think so. (There have of course been headliners that have done separate secret sets, Mumford & Sons Pyramid & Strummerville).

Cinerarmageddon - the Glastonbury area with a million different names 🤪

    Ben

That's the abbreviation, they were going to call it Sincineramadramakarmageddon.

I'm not sure which year that photo is from, or how long after the Festival it was taken - but the activity at B&W is likely entirely unrelated to Glastonbury. Prior to this year NASS Festival took place at B&W , usually only 2 weeks after Glastonbury, and the site is also used for a lot of other stuff throughout the summer.

Thanks, that explains it. Looks like about 2 weeks after. It’s a relatively recent year as Sticklinch can be seen. I reckon it’s 2023.

  15. Don’t know if it’s been mentioned here before, the current Google Maps satellite view is just after the festival took place. I thought Bath & West was just CV camping, but there must be lots of crew camping there? Anyway, it’s fun to explore.

wandering the farm without  anyone around we managed to find a squashed frog .... the worlds unluckiest frog 😞

He'd have been extremely unlucky if he'd been the first frog in history to have been squashed by a huge flashing pyramid hat, that's for sure!

  17. Looking back at my photos of 2013, makes me appreciate what a truly special place Glastonbury is. I've posted some previously of Chrissie Hynde & Johnny Marr, etc but the one of Paul Carrick is my favourite.
