I 75% get this joke but my point was if they legitimately have given it to the strokes, I’d find it surprising if the 1975 wouldn’t be asked (reading aside)

I reckon the 1975 might have shot themselves in the foot a bit with their plan. If they held for Glasto this year they might of got the slot. I can’t see them being harder to arrange than an American band.

whereas for 2020 you have no idea what priority headliners are lined up before them

Yeah I agree that they could easily have been booked for it if they weren't tied down elsewhere.

I still think they have a great chance in 2020 and if not they'll probably just be booked when they release their next album in 2021 or whatever.

If 1975 didn’t tie themselves down to reading I honestly think Glasto might of given them a shot this year.

    Source: my ass

No mate they'd have booked Coldplay instead.

    And Dua 3rd Pyramid.

The 1975 aren't going to headline the 50th Glastonbury the year after they headlined R&L. Put Coldplay there and its probably not far off including Elton.

Why would they say no to The 1975 and instead book a band who've released nothing since the last time they headlined and have already headlined 4 times lol?

With you on Grande, but isn’t there a reason Elton is out of the running? I can’t recall why. I seem to have something in the back of my mind about it.

Kendrick wont be playing without a new album, which is probable by that point. Booking him earlier in the album release cycle would be a power move. Much better than “check this guy out, he did DAMN a few years back. No? Ok also that one with “drink” in it over and over again.”

Nah Elton was ruled out of 2019 but not 2020 I'm pretty sure. And yeah Kendrick is supposed to be releasing this year. Think his record label leaked a list of their artists releasing this year or something along those lines?

  5. For 2020 I'd currently say Macca, Elton, Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, Kendrick and Ariana Grande all seem like they could be in with a shout at the moment. Obviously will depend on tours and albums, etc. but it feels like the opposite of 2019 where there never seemed to be many likely looking acts.

No, they do Primavera Sound on 31st and are at We Love Green (Paris) on June 2nd (according to festival website, not particularly clear). Haven't seen any other dates. So it's a possibility for the Saturday, but not the obvious route.

Yeah that's what I meant by free, they don't have a show on the Saturday. Barca to London to Paris is hardly crazy.

IOW line-up is rubbish. It always is. It's to be expected.

I honestly think this years Glasto headliners are just as bad. Imagine if IOW announced Stormzy, The Cure and The Strokes  for their 2019 headliners lol

It's only cos it's Glastonbury they will get away with it. And that's fair enough.

I highly doubt that. In fact I'd say it's the opposite.

Lots of people on here wish for The Strokes to come to Europe each year and would probably go to APE or BST or whatever to catch them but there are a lot of people in here who see them as not big/relevant enough to headline Glastonbury. I'm sure they'd be viewed as a decent get by IOW.

The Cure are similar, loved by lots of people on here but also seen by lots as not big/relevant enough to headline Glasto, but still a good headliner for most festivals, especially IOW who seemingly have an older clientele.

Stormzy; well he's probably no bigger than those IOW headliners but he's a fresh booking being given a chance to headline his first major festival and it's an exciting event, even to some who aren't into his music. George Ezra is also headlining his first major festival there, sure, but I doubt many people are excited to see what he pulls out of the bag. Stormzy being announced caused loads of talking points amongst everyone I know going to Glasto and even people I know who aren't going have spoken to me about it several times. If George Ezra had been announced to headline I doubt there'd have been anything other than laughter and bemusement about it.

The worst thing about those IOW headliners is that they're everywhere all the time. I could have probably seen each one of them like 20 times over the last few years if I wanted to. I wouldn't have been able to see The Strokes or The Cure even once over the last few years if I'd tried.

I missed her last time (although the reviews weren't exactly kind) so wouldn't have minded seeing her, but I'm not exactly crushed by this news.

I was looking forward to her last time but it almost put me to sleep. In fairness I was laid at the back of the Pyramid field half asleep beforehand, so it may be unfair to blame that entirely on her.

It's in the blurb on the Latitude site.

    https://www.latitudefestival.com/news/first-announcement-latitude-2019

In a UK Festival Exclusive, we are excited to reveal that ultimate Californian dream-pop sad girl Lana Del Rey is our Sunday headliner. It will be her first headline show in the UK since the release of her No.1 album Lust For Life.

Oh wow dunno how I missed that. Works for me, wasn't excited about seeing her again.

I don't think that all. I think 5 of the 6 acts are utter shite.

I can tell you watching The Cure is like watching paint dry. Have you ever seen them?

Yes I saw them at Leeds 2012 and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Also saw them at Wembley Arena in 2016 and they were great once again.

Edit: And yeah I've seen Noely G and Biffy too and neither were anywhere near as good as The Cure.

Says on the eFests report that LDR is an exclusive, so I guess she's out of the running.

On their website it just says it's her first UK headline performance after the release of her new album, so I guess there must be something in the press release saying she's an exclusive @eFestivals?

    Stormzy/LG

    The Strokes/CG

    The Cure/1975

That's where I'm at atm with Lana Del Rey and Christine and the Queens as my next options.

Although sounds like LDR may be a Latitude exclusive, anyway.

Wouldn't APE involve them coming over to play then going back to America?

Yeah that's what I meant by it not fitting in with their schedule, but there have apparently been two people over the last few days who've reiterated that they're headlining it. Maybe they could still be going off outdated info. Who knows?

    Oh yeah, I remember now...

Looks more like wishful thinking to me. I probably paid no attention cos The 1975 are shite.

Looking through her tweets the other night I doubt it's wishful thinking. The only band I remember seeing that she's into is Leftfield, but there certainly wasn't much to suggest she'd be a big fan of The 1975.
