I don’t know that’s 100% accurate, Vodaphone did leak the announcement but I think Pearl Jam pulled out last minute because they canned the first leg of the tour & didn’t come to Europe until the year after. Point still stands though, they were booked.

I was told that’s the last date of their European tour & it’s in Lisbon. Wasn’t specifically told it was Nos Alive, that’s an assumption.

Was it? I thought they were dull in 2019. Perhaps I’m being unfair because I saw them headline for the first time in 09 when they were hungry for it & full of energy, but every time since I’ve just felt something is missing.

Royal Blood can get in the bin. I’m all for Download booking a more diverse line up & moving away from the usual top slot repeat bookings, but Royal Blood are absolute garbage.

Yep I agree, plus add in that the current second stage area is poorly laid out & causes a massive bottleneck. If they want the top two stages to be clashless, they should fully commit to a dual main stage set up, with the old large second stage tent acting as the alternative third stage to give those that don’t want to watch the headliners something to do.

They ‘supported’ on a huge worldwide stadium package tour. If Biffy did that with Pearl Jam or Avenged did that with Metallica would they suddenly stop being suitable Download headliners? No. Also if we want to play that game, System subbed Green Day at Reading, then came back and headlined again at Download. The delusion is strong in this thread.

Fall Out Boy have headlined Reading/Leeds previously & sold 100k+ tickets on their latest tour, they’re not headlining the second stage or subbing.

IF she does Glasto I could see her doing 2 BST dates alongside it. She played Hyde Park on the MDNA tour, so she can make the production work on festival/outdoor stages.

Download doesn’t need to sell out to turn a profit though its capacity is huge. Sonisphere hasn’t existed in years, so I don’t buy that logic. They stick to this rigid rule of headliners not having other shows in the UK and it’s ridiculous. They could be more flexible with it & the festival would be all the better for it (in terms of line up & tickets shifted).

I don’t really understand why Download stick to this logic. Bands like Foo Fighters, Green Day, RHCP, Pearl Jam, etc. could easily do a stadium show in London/South, Scotland/north & Download without it affecting ticket sales too much. It’s probably the reason why Download continues to miss out on those acts.

Download has a bigger capacity than any stadium in Europe.

Hmm ok, but I’d argue the point he was making was being popular enough to sell out 2 nights at the 02 back to back, rather than shifting 40k tickets on an entire tour combined. The Prodigy aren’t doing the 02, they’re doing Alexander Palace for 2 nights, which is the equivalent of 1 night at the 02.

I agree with you that it’s a flawed lay out & the bottleneck is a pain. Even in 09 when Prodigy headlined the second stage & partially clashed with Slipknot the whole area was grid locked. The best slot for them (size wise) would be to sub the main stage.

Where’s that come from? I can’t see the Prodigy being booked to headline Download again now. They didn’t even headline Parklife this year & their arena tour is only part sold out. They were also a last minute booking in 2012 when they did headline, because Van Halen dropped out.

Subbing second stage feels about right to me. I could see him below Alice Cooper.
