  1. That’s not entirely true though is it. It sells out the way that it does based on previous lineups, bbc coverage and an overall sense of it being the ‘it’ event when it comes to festivals in the UK. It is as mainstream as mainstream can be. If they suddenly changed the tone completely year on year, there is no guarantee it would continue to sell out as it currently does.
  2. If Sabaton play I think they’d be second stage headliners instead, so they can bring more of their stage show. All 3 of the ‘rumoured’ headliners are known to have big productions, so there isn’t going to be room for Sabaton’s usual set up on the main stage.
  3. Keane? & Moby? edit: I think Moby supported New Order. I can’t remember the other one.
  4. System of a Down are also at 18 years. Grace Jones, Blue Oyster Cult, Pixies, the Who & the Eagles have all gone longer between releases in the past too. (Though granted the later 3 did all have hiatuses/break ups at some point).
  5. I was making a point that a misconstrued or badly worded comment online doesn’t always equate to someone being an evil person worthy of total cancellation. - it was an observation about cancel culture. For the record I don’t condone Rosin Murphy’s views at all, my own views are completely the opposite. But I don’t think instantly cancelling someone who questions something or branding them with labels is the way to progress forward.
  6. Whilst I agree with the sentiment 100%, drag queens and trans people are not one and the same. Suggesting so is transphobic in itself.* See how easy one comment online can lead to people making judgments about you? *I don’t actually think you’re transphobic for the record.
  7. Neither were the Stones, U2 or Adele, but people can be persuaded.
  8. Not saying I think she should headline, but she’s just done two nights headlining BST so she’s still a big ticket shifter.
  9. I can’t wait to hear your excuses when Rihanna does eventually announce (& sells out) a huge world stadium tour.
  10. Whilst true, I’d argue most of those singles were successful because she was ‘featured’ on them as the lead singer. She would also play a lot of them in her set, therefore to the UK public she has more recognisable top 10 hits than Coldplay for a headline set. </pedantic too>
  11. Rihanna has also sold 250 million albums worldwide making her the second best selling female artist of all time, and the seventh best selling act ever. Coldplay have sold 100 million. Rihanna has 31 top 10 singles in the UK. Coldplay have 19.
  12. Erykah Badu would be the perfect headliner.
  13. Morally and legally are two different things.
  14. I think the difference here is Slowthai has been charged and has appeared in court, so he is in the middle of a legal case. As far as I can tell nobody from Rammstein has been charged with anything. That may change in the future depending what else comes to light, but as of now Download (or any festival) would be on dodgy ground (legally) if they reneged on a signed contract based on online allegations alone. Rammstein have also got a huge team of lawyers on the case (suing newspapers etc.) so I would imagine they aren’t going to go quietly if festivals start trying to drop them.
  15. Why can’t the senior citizens do the mining too? Sounds a bit Thatcherite to me that.
  16. No, they sell out arenas and stadiums. They are a headline or nothing band, just like Metallica. The fact you only know a few songs doesn’t change that fact.
  17. They sold out twickenham stadium this year, it’s headline or nothing.
  18. I wasn’t making light of that, I didn’t know that’s what was said. But whatever it was, I don’t think it should continue in this thread, because otherwise it’s just going to get shut down.
  19. Give it a rest mate, something was said on a forum in bad taste, it happens, get over it, move on with life.
  20. Wait, what? You’ve 100% made this up. They’ve never been an arena band in the UK and they still aren’t. They’d be lucky to get the second stage sub slot, and that’s with the reunion hype. Hopefully they don’t play at all, because you couldn’t pay me to listen to their Christian mingle faux grunge crap.
  21. It’s impossible, many have tried & failed. He’s like the hydra, cut off one account and two more appear.
  22. I think that’s been lost in translation. The London show is being touted as the only performance of the album in full.
