Gumtree Ticket Scam

Me and my friends have been 'done' by a Gumtree ticket scam - we don't want anyone else to get scammed, so please be aware, and try and avoid buying from Gumtree at all costs.

I put an advert on saying that we needed tickets.

2 seperate guys contacted us saying they had tickets to sell at face value (both sounded genuine). We agreed that we would pay them half of the ticket money by bank transfer, then they would send the tickets, then we would pay the second half.

The tickets have never arrived, and both are now uncontactable.

So PLEASE beware! Our bank say they can not do anything as we authorised the transaction. We have contacted the Police - even if they can't do anything for us, at least it may prevent them scamming people in future.

As for us, BIG lesson learnt, the hard way, unfortunatly.

Not bank transfer, not Western Union.

Paypal is safer and more traceable.

If they take credit cards (and it means they'll be an agency if so I guess) then these also offer some cover against scams.

Ask for PROOF of tickets - tix are being sent out now so they should be able to provide a photo (with their name/contact details on a sheet of paper in shot). At the very least a ticketmaster (or whoever) confirmation email with details you can check on site.
