Anyone here a member of the Labour party? Never occurred to me before (I've even voted Lib Dem pre-coalition and in the Euros) but, if now isn't the time to do it, I'm not sure when is!

(Disclaimer: have no interest in getting into an argument comparing relative merits of leaders.)

I am as are a lot of people on here I should think.

    Why are you interested?

This is a very interesting overview. If only it could get widespread circulation and acknowledgment.

It is very interesting I read it yesterday like a lot of us on here I presume.

I think front page Guardian is quite a lot of circulation it is not like The Daily Mail are going to run it and if they did their readership would poo-poo it as wishy-washy left wing shit.

While I think for the younger Corbynists that makes sense, and that was a huge portion of Corbyn's base there's also something more subtle going on - at least for me and I can't imagine I'm the only one. I'm in my late 30s, and I am starting to see why people go Conservative.

The thing is, my personal politics are pretty far left - I want radical change in society to make things better for everyone. But I'm doing okay - own a house, fairly well paid job. I'm a decent step above the average UK wage but certainly not near the top 10%. I supported Corbyn safe in the knowledge that it would cost me, personally. I would be less well off. I would pay more tax. That was a price I was willing to pay for a radically different and improved society. And I was okay with it because while I would pay more, he would also be dismantling the big business interests, taxing the super rich even more, cutting off the lucrative public transport / utilities contracts - all that stuff. A price worth paying.

My problem is I look at the more centrist point of view - and it lacks that radical change, and it also lacks that focus on actually taxing the really rich even more. Obviously we don't have a Starmer manifesto yet, but if it goes a similar route to Blair, what those changes tend to do is make things a bit better for those at the bottom, while taxing people like me more, and leaving the super-rich and the vested business interests in play. And while it's a sacrifice I would make for a radically better society, I'm not sure it's a sacrifice I want to make for a slight improvement.

Voting Labour is against my own self-interest. I've always been willing to do that on the promise of actual, significant change. I'm not sure I am willing do that for small, minor fixes.

And yes there's an argument that we have to take that step first, make the small changes before we can make the big ones, perhaps in a second term, but is that true? Is there actually any appetite for actual radical change? Or the minute Labour start talking about nationalisation again the Tories are voted back in?

I couldn't agree with this more well said.

I am in a very similar situation paid up member of the labour party and voted for JC the last two times now he has gone I have all be given up :(

  4. I was reading the "Similar smaller festival" thread I found some good tips for next year's festival calendar Farmers Phil's for example love the parking next to the tent and this got me thinking.  My favourite festival is a very small festival called Flummoxed about 400 people very relaxed and chilled it is run by a folk band called We Happy Few so maybe similar to Beautiful Days, that said the We Happy Few have stopped headlining their own festival so they can have a few beers lol.

Anyway the point is Flummoxed is taking a year off I am gutted been there 8 years on the spin every year it has been in existance in fact, so does anyone know of any similar very small festivals not really bothered about music type as long as it is friendly and not to big.

Interestingly a friend of a friend was starting a new festival last year called Up//Side\\Down Festival looked awesome everything I described above unfortunately they had to cancel it hopefully that will be back next year.

    Thanks in advance people :)

Do many families stay in WV? Weighing up future options for taking the kids.

I have taken my eldest two daughters 13 and 12 to the previous couple of festival staying at Worthy View both times and I intend to take my twin boys both 9 to the next couple.  I cant recommend Worthy View enough for this especially for the parking in the field next to your tent aspect.

You don't see too many families with very young children, however this is probably due to getting a pram up and down the steep hill which would be no fun in a muddy year but still possible.

You just have to email Worthy View pre festival with the names of your kids.

I will never again abuse the privilege of discovering a random tipi with some relaxed, rhythmic drumming happening in it, by drunkenly grabbing a bongo from god knows where, and attempting to join in by overlaying the lovely, tribal beat with my own layer of 'drum and bass'.

    Love to have seen this

Lol I seem to be less financially well behaved than others. I usually eat at least 3 times a day, averaging about 10 quid a go. Breakfast, lunch and dinner then something on the way back, late in the evening when I'm drunk.

Jesus it must be cheaper to be on Class As

Any tent marker needs to be reasonably unobtrusive (stupid I know) but they don't let you fly/attach flags etc. (At least in 2016). Worth a check beforehand

I have had a 9 metre pole with a dragon windsock on it every year at Worthy View since it started.

  9. Just noticed this on the bluedot FAQ:

"Are we able to bring food and drink/picnic?
We won’t be allowing food and drink into the arena as we have a vast selection of delectable food stalls catering for all dietary requirements."

I can't take my own food in really!!!

It would cost me more than the ticket fees to feed my 4 kids at festival prices for 4 days.

I could go back to the tent I guess but not really the point.

Any attempt at enforcing this and I will never go back.

  10. Hope you all had a great festival something bad and wrong on many levels happened whilst there......

My best friend was pulled out of the FRONT ROW of The Pyramid Stage after Radiohead as two "entitled" posh birds wanted his space.

Here is his own story in his own words please support him in any way you can.  Would love to name and shame those involved to be honest.

    Thanks in advance.

Removed from front row a sad and shocking story

  11. I am halfway through what will be a record number of gigs in a week for me:

    So far:
    Biffy Clyro
    Red Hot Chilli Peppers

    The weekend:
    Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer
    Ash
    The Chemical Brothers

    Any advance?

  12. The way myself and friends have handled this previously is to wait until the tent you want appears on the site book that and cancel the other one, you will hit cancellation fees of course.

Don't worry all types of accommodation  reappear on there especially as we get nearer the festival

  13. I must admit I never heard this directly but saw it on here years and years ago, subsequently I re-posted it and the original poster saw it and said: "I was the one that saw and heard that"

Here is hoping he notices again:

Someone inside in tent was doing a big line whilst wearing a head torch a passing wit shouts: "Put that light out it's like a bat symbol for cocaine abuse"
