Not so much thinking of not going, but also considering a Thursday arrival and skip all the queues and to be more on form for the Friday. Anyone who arrives on Thursday - where do you camp? Everywere seems rammed by Wednesday evening.

I'm off to End of the Road again later in the year. It's a really nice festival without the crazy crowds and walking like at Glastonbury. And you can take your own booze into the 'arena'

Can’t speak for 19 & 22 as I didn’t get tickets but turned up on Thursday afternoon in 2017 flying solo so I had very  a small 2 man tent and pretty easily found room to squeeze it in in a premium spot in pennards. But could have done the same in almost any field

  2. One of the ones that I’m most disappointed about missing  this year’s festival. As I absolutely lived their 2017 set. Luckily their playing Green Man which I know they have a bit of special connection to as they played on the time solar stage as a complete unknown

Fast forward to the bit where her boyfriend replies please. As is usually the case with these stories.

Lmao yeah in my experience if someone allows their friends to “whisk then away” from a conversation with a random guy it almost certainly means they’re not interested

  4. If you’re not enjoying something don’t persist with it no matter how much you were looking forward to it.

took me about 10 years to really get this but I remember one year trying to watch a band I REALLY wanted to see at the Park, it was pissing with rain and I couldn’t get close enough to hear properly. I needed up going to a nearby Jamaican stall having a massive plate of steaming curried goat, rice and peas, plantain and dumplings, followed by a huge pick of Victoria sponge and mug of coffee In the another cafe, while sheltering from the rai and chatting to lovely people.  I genuinely the name of the band I missed but remember the meal.

It's the winds I'm worried about. We can deal with the rain, but those gust predictions are still perilously close to the restrictions GM have set for stage/site closures through Fri/Sat/Sun afternoons (dropping off slightly for the evenings, by the look of it). Let's hope those hills work their magic and keep us sheltered!

The site is relatively sheltered being in the bottom of a valley.

Met office is currently saying gusts of up 20mph for right now but there’s next to no wind here.

BEYOND excited at this point. Thanks @SweepingTheNation and @benali for all the updates today.

Wondering could anyone tell me, where does the shuttle bus from Abergavenny drop, assuming at the Orange Car Park/general box office?

As I pack... wondering how strict the booze rule is, getting things into the 'entertainment' areas – do they check bags? My usual at End of the Road is the (very chic) 'bag of wine', is that going to get me stopped if its in a rucksack? And assume 'entertainment' means anything that isn't the campsite? Will of course be availing of all the delightful beers, but do hate waiting at the bar when there's back to back music and clashes galore to navigate!

Shuttle bus drop off is over the bridge

  7. Last years  event management plan that I posted somewhere up thread has a chapter on wind in case you’v interested

An anemometer shall be placed on the Mountain Stage to monitor wind speeds.
    • Noted wind speeds are three (3) second gusts.
    • When wind speeds are expected to exceed 20 mph: A team of qualified personnel shall be put on alert. All necessary personnel shall be in place and put on standby. The team will include members of the Saftey Team, Site Crew, Decor Crew and the Emergency Team. The team will be responsible for briefing crew, contractors and stallholders, to secure their areas and to take down and remove vunerable structures. The team will also secure equipment and to take down and remove vunerable structures where necessary.
    • When wind speeds exceed 30 mph:
Show Stop All show operations entertainment shall be suspended and the general public evacuated from in-front of stages, stalls, trees and marquees. To a distance of at least twice the height of the structures.
    • When wind speeds are expected to exceed 40 mph:
Event Evacuation All audience and personnel including stage hands and crew should be evacuated from the entertainment areas, into the campsites and car parks.

  8. Is it still the same as before (d&b j series)? these are still line arrays like the PS and WH but I’ve always assumed lack of delay towers was because the audience area is wide throw whereas PS and WH are long throw. I think the problem is that the OS field just sufferers much worse from crosswinds because of the topography of the site and that’s always going to cause problems for line array setups. Point source would possibly be a better option in that particular field but the noise restrictions in the license make LAs the only practical option.

Worthy view has appeared, too - I believe the capacity is about 10k people up there but I dunno how many tents that equates to - it does mean onsite camping fields are a bit less cramped these days (and anecdotally i think that too, tents aren’t absolutely cheek by jowl like they were mid 2000’s)

I seem to remember that although they considered there wasn’t quite enough camping space in 07 this was because people where bringing larger tents rather than more of them  so I would assume that the the overall numbers haven changed too much

  10. Closes thing I could ever find for the number of tents in onsite public camping was 2007 license which states :-

     “The Licensee shall provide a minimum of;
145 hectares for public camping based on 430 tents per hectare “

So just over 62k  expected  that year and although more camping fields have been added the number of weekend tickets has stayed roughly the same

  11. They’re for spotlight operators. There used to be a single 3 storey FOH production tower that had sound on the lower level, the. Lighting desk above and spot operators on the top but this created a massive area in the bowls with no view of the stage. In 2013 they switched to putting the FOH sound mixing in two separate single level structures, moved the lighting techs onto the side of the stage and put designed these towered to reduce the amount of space in the field where the stage could not be seen.

Yes. I know many people go on their own, and I have contemplated it myself. But it is those shared moments with close friends that make it really special and unforgettable. Not the same otherwise.

I actually  prefer going on my own now... many moons ago it was a group thing but I always was the one fitting in with someone else.

Now I can wander where I want, stop when I want and inevitably talk to random strangers

There’s definitely benefits to going alone and when I’ve been with others I still spend a fair bit of time on my own. I just found the mornings/early afternoon a bit lonely as people are generally hanging out with their own groups and less receptive to random chats. The whole place is also full of really happy memories of people I care about but who’ve all moved on and don’t go anymore which can also be quite difficult to deal with emotionally when alone.

  13. Had to go though Waterloo this morning and saw loads of people heading down :(

I didn’t think I’d miss it as much as I do, the problem for me is that none of  my friends go anymore, went completely alone in 17 and had a good time but it was also hard being on my own at times, I really missed not sharing the special moments with people

  14. Yes

Usually in undle ground (field between croissant nerf and unfair ground) by the cut through to the craft field IIRC

  15. First one I’ve missed for 18 years, didn’t even try for a ticket this time for various reasons. I’d convinced myself that it was fine as none of my friends go anymore and although I had a great time in 2017 going alone I still found it difficult at points. I’d managed to stay away from here all year but somehow have ended up back in the last few days and am now really regretting my decision.

I know they are like unicorn poo but if anyone has got a spare campervan ticket then please let me know. We are currently offsite in Crickowel but don't fancy the late night walk back.

Has anyone stayed offsite before and know if there is a taxi or other way of getting back to Crickowel?

It's our first green man but reading the forum properly excited that it will fill the void of missing out on Glastonbury this year.
