If she had said "anyone who has a problem with LGBT rights can f**k off, don't listen to my set". Id be on board with that.

But she offered us straight people no conciliation. Just f**k off for being straight.

    Charming....

as i said, I think there wider societal mechanics at play but I understand your POV better now, I'm sorry my original slightly flippant comment dug you out too hard, it wasn't necessary meant to be a totally accurate read of your position, was just confused about why everyone had such a visceral reaction.

Let's get back to the festival

Excluding a group over their sexual orientation is wrong. She was pedalling divisive rhetoric.

It doesn't need any further thesis. Her words were problematic.

Equality is supposed to go both ways and Im not willing to be a punchbag for the historical sins of my forbears.

As I said, I wasn't there, not language I would use, I apologise if you felt I defamed you, but I do think there are wider elements at play myself. But I'm also not going to waste our time arguing about Halsye

Presume you're referring to me there chief.

She went on a little monologue before a song and talked about June being pride month.

Then she said (and im paraphrasing) "all the straight people can f**king leave".

It was aggressive and divisive and would not be be tolerated if (insert other sexual orientation in straights place) was used.

But that's because if you were using against minority groups it would be part of a centuries long hierachy of oppression? And whilst not language I might use, it was more for creating a space for those groups? And thus the two are not historically, or prejudicially equivalent? "all the straight people can leave" is imo in no way on the same level as the harassment and prejudice that LGBTQI+ people receive every day? imo of course

Have you never heard someones behaviour or character being referred to as odious?

Its a correct usage of the word.

yep, hands up, i got that wrong, was just confused by, as I wasn't there, why everyone was saying it, and why the only reason given was around what she said about gay fans? Didn't realise my quotation has to be literal but was being absurd to try and get to an understanding of why she was so heinous, several people all called her odious

That’s not what the OP said and you know it. Nice straw man argument, bravo…

Is there a reading of what they said that could be interpreted in another way? Obviously I wasn't there so that's why I'm asking, brother seemed very mad about what sounded like light hearted comments to her gay fans, or was she actually advocated for a Queer Fascist state?

edit to say - I also wasn't making an argument, I was paraphrasing to try and understand why everyone was so mad about it

I think that despite the main stage's previous location being quite obviously better (as far as we can tell so far), I already had struggles last year with how packed it was. For instance, I could arrive at the main stage 5 minutes before a headliner plays and I'd manage a spot with nice visibility. That was just NOT the case last year. I can't recall the miniscule view I had for Gorillaz, all because I stayed and watched Grimes' DJ Set until its end.

So, yeah. The organization can change the stages all it wants, for whatever reason. But last year's issue was never stage related, it's just that they made too many damn tickets available. This festival's charm, partly, is its breathing room, the relaxed nature of seeing multiple names with logistical ease. Last year I felt like I had to plan ahead a simple walk from the second biggest stage (Cupra? I forgot) to the main, otherwise I'd see next to nothing (I'm not that tall, so that's also a factor - I'm 5'6 / 172cm)

I'm a stand at the back and vibe guy anyway, but I got to Nick Cave about 10 minutes before he came on and was like ".....oh. The very very back?". Letf to go watch black midi cos it was too busy. Watching anything on the Super Bock stage with the queue for the ladies snaking through the crowd was a bad vibe too

Now to play the "check the weather forecast every day and hope it constantly edges slightly better" game.

the yr.no outlook looks better than most, but still prepared for a mixed time. Which is gutting as the forecast a week ago for the fest was glorious

As this year will be my first PS Porto, just wondering what the fuss about the decision on moving the main stage to the other area?  Some people quite pissed off about this. How far the distance between the vodafone stage to the porto stage (the main stage)? Is it like the distance to the mordor (main stages) in PS Barcelona?

The site is much more compact than than Barcelona, so I'd say its about 10 minutes max (but that's without the whole site going that way).

The issue for me is the previous two alternating stages are on grass in natural amphitheatres, really cool place to watch bands (and the space for the Vodafone stage feels almost infinite). Trading that for a long fenced in area on concrete feels a massive shame

I don't know if the metal bridge is a permanent addition, it kind of felt like it was there to cover up some damaged terrain, but I might be wrong (edit: nevermind, yeah it's there for this year)

Space was indeed an issue last year. I can't quite tell how the new main stage compensates for that.

I will miss the old ATP stage... I loved that place. It was so calming, especially late at night when you could just sit far back and enjoy it all.

Think the first year it ran I saw Wolves in the Throne Room there. They played in total darkness except for a light running down the guitarist's fretboard.

Remember seeing Godspeed there, and it being really quite something

I'm not attending so I'm just stricking up conversation, but how do you all feel about this year's venue and stages' locations? I feel that it kinda misses the charm the festival had...

I'm not totally sold that space that had the Cupra stage last year has the capability to be a "main" stage (some BIG acts on it) until I see how far back they've pushed it. Not sure the site is equipped for people marching back and forth over that metal bridge

What was the old ATP/Binance stage moving out of that wooded area is a massive shame, especially as I can't see where the loos from it have gone? Maybe Boiler Room will be there? As can't see it on the map. But the space was often deserted last year for amazing acts so maybe the move will help attendance?

Hopefully there's  more space as I felt the site could not cope with the sold out crowds last year

How concerned do we need to be about the weather? BBC showing showers and thunderstorms which is worrying me a bit!

Pretty worried. It's rained when I've been there before, and Porto can be a stormy place (atlantic coast after all).

Hoping we get away with just Thursday, but currently looks like that will be apocalyptic

  12. First time slam dunk attendee, many festival veteran. My thoughts:

    - They're very lucky the vibe was so good. Everyone was mostly exceptionally friendly

    - But perhaps too friendly. This festival had some of the worst crowd crust I'd ever seen. Someone mentioned Scene Queen. I was on the far side and it was deserted. Same Kerrang tent. Same on the Dickies - huge crowd on the right, but walk to the left and you could walk to the front. I'm a stand at the back guy cos I'm tall and dislike inconveniencing/touching people but some ppl were overly precious about people going past them. Meant everyone got places and just stopped, creating artificial blockages

-Sound on the Dickies stage was atrocious, not helped by the angle of the ground.

    - The set up in that Kerrang tent was deranged. Had to fight through an entire crowd of Hawthorne Heights fans to get to Spanish Love Songs to....stand in a half full tent and listen to another band soundcheck. Ludicrous

    - People started queueing at a few open bars (the ones without queue barriers). They're bars, you're making them less efficient by doing this. Craft beer tent was classic on this, far sides were deserted and you could get served immediately, but people would start queuing behind you even though there were people at the bar waiting to serve people

    - However gave up on going to the craft tent as when Dickies got busier, it was harder to cut through the green and walking through that thoroughfare with the food queues was just....horrible. Borderline bleak

    - Partially glad The Offspring did that weird covers bit cos it meant we left as soon as they did Kids Aren't Alright and had a fairly stress free journey home, imagine it wouldn't have been the case 10 minutes later

    - Was mad how many toilets were by the craft beer tent vs how many were by Dickies. Former had like 30 urinals, later had 2 which made me laugh every time I had to piss on a tree cos it made no real difference given they were overflowing by 3pm

    - A personal thing - Spanish Love Songs were amazing, but their line about "sing us some nostalgia", then watching a load of nostalgia bands turn in half arsed sets on poor sound systems (Less than Jake in particular didn't look like they care/wanted to be playing Hello Rockview at all) meant I spent the whole day wishing I was just watching SLS again

TWOD are one of my favourite bands. Will be seeing them 4 times this years , after twice last year.

I love an oat milk latte and a bit of Bon Iver as much as the next guy but I think the train has overshot the station....

I don't want to single out any poster (it was same last year) but some times I see things like the following:

"oh neon toaster are clashing with intergalactic suitcase wheels" . Such a shame they are both a must see. So I YouTube both bands and they have no subscribers, paltry view counts and the music is absolutely dreadful.

If you were "must see" you'd be on after 8pm at least. Not on the Ribena stage at 1830.

Sometimes I get a vibe that people are deliberately anti-mainstream. They wear it as a badge of honour. It's performative.

They look down on the folks who go to Blur while they listen to some Swedish lad banging milk bottles and bin lids to a crowd of 11 people.

This is a strange take for someone on the forum for Primavera, a festival well known for having expansive programming and not afraid of having challenging music on the line up. It's not really surprising that a music festival like that, aimed at people really into music, might have people really into the music, non?
