The talk of The National being "too big" because they've sold out two nights at Ally Pally...haven't Future Islands just done the very same thing?
No, they only played one night. The National's non London shows are still arenas whereas Future Islands' were club venues. "Too big" is obviously a subjective call that is ultimately as pointless as talking about the stature of football clubs, so lazy use of language on my part - but realistically where The National are operating is at a scale and budget above where EOTR tends not to play (as a National stan slightly guttingly cos i'd die to see them at EOTR and would adore to be wrong)

Stunned by the Wallopers hate. Thought they were fantastic and far from novelty, have a deep respect for a long held musical tradition, singing a great deal about inequality and a fairer world

Pulp have been going longer than both those bands!
I get your point though, but if they need to cut back on spending I'd rather a band like those two than UMO or Future Islands.
And I personally don't think it would be worse to watch than say The Pixies.
I was talking about the distance from their peak rather than how long they have been going for
Pixies were a strange booking, and were poor, but generally speaking EOTR looks for a line up with some level of cultural relevance even if it isn't for me. Ash and James are like 90s weekender bands, to the point I can only assume you're on a wind up lol

James or Ash would be decent Saturday night headliners. I realise they're not the kind of bands EOTR usually go for.
What year is it???

I think The National would be a good fit for the Thursday headline slot and having missed this year, it seems quite likely they'll be at some European summer festivals in 2024.
There is absolutely no way The National will play EOTR these days, let alone in the lower status headline slot, they've just sold out two nights at Ally Pally

As I got there on Friday, seeing some of this stuff before I got there I was expecting the wild west.
It was actually fine on the whole though. Some design issues particularly for women and people with mobility struggles. but a massive improvement imo on the previous two years which were properly wretched

Yeah that's be a terrible secret act for no reason
like I'm not a huge Walkmen fan, but it would be really cool if it was them
If FWF walk out I'm left a bit eh?

Am I the only person who couldn't pick a FWF track out of a lineup? I know they've played the festival before but my only reaction to the name is ???
Saw a bit of them on Woods in 2018, proper just washed over me
Trying to remove my own biases here (as I don't care for them) but I think they're the only mooted act I'd be actively disappointed in it being, purely cos it doesn't feel special/I don't know why they kept it a secret

So, after attending the last 15 EOTR festivals, I won't be there this year. I'm starting to regret it now, but financially it would have been a struggle.
Anyway, I just wanted to say I hope you all have an amazing weekend - I know you will regardless of the weather. Any newbies on here - you're in for a treat!
Hope to see you all next year.
Thoughts with you pal. People have slightly parasocial relationships with festivals, but the truth is life is bloody hard right now and as great as a weekend in this particular field is, you gotta keep eyes on the big prize - life

if you need actual flexibility, is worth trying to cobble together 4 people at the train station and getting a cab. But yeah, way back, pre book

I play cricket in Victoria Park and you can usually hear decently from the pitches which are right by the People's Park Tavern.
That pub has a nice beer garden, but is permanently understaffed

Looks like about 200 now?
People picking up bargains then, so i don't think we'll notice it being quiet - it's such a well spaced festival anyway

It's a weird line up this year isn't it? I don't think you can really deny it's a bit light on established names...and yet work your way through the clashfinder and there's barely an hour when you haven't got a tough choice between a couple of absolutely great sounding bands. If the weather plays ball and some of the upncomers really rise to the occasion I think this could end up being a vintage year.
I wonder if there'll be noticeably less people on site...with all the tickets still available on twickets...
Really buzzing for it now
There's admittedly far more on resale sites this year than last, but last year there were a good 200 odd tickets on twickets when the resale closed and I thought it might feel empty, but there was no difference in all honesty

Convinced myself the ??? will be The Walkmen. They played Eotr before and are currently on a 10 year comeback tour of the UK, playing London the week of the festival with no dates that weekend.
They were originally UK festival exclusives for Green Man, but were added to the All Points East lineup where most of the new Eotr additions can also be found. They are the right size for the slot, and the Green Man billing explains the contractual reason to not announce it sooner!
Am I right??
Probably not
it is the likeliest answer imo

Who on the line up already do we think will do a late night show? For me MADMADMAD got to be a shoo in right, especially with their criminally early regular slot - reminds me a bit of AKDK a few years ago

WH Lung have a new single/video out this week apparently, I liked them on Big Top but have really loved them having seen them a couple of times afterwards, don't understand how they're not bigger (personally!). I'd love them as a sneaky Wunderhorse replacement or a late addition somewhere.
(This is just personal, if I could add something to the lineup vibes haha)Love them, but they feel like a band out of time - if they'd been around in like 07/8/9 they'd be huge

Are there campervan field specific showers? The map says no

Classic EOTR
I still feel like the line up is much weaker than previous years, but now it's here I can't wait

Indeed. I had been slightly leaning towards King G but this news sways me towards Ezra. Good to have the news pre EoTR.
Yeah, Gizz will be fun and I love the new record, but not sure I want to miss Ezra's last go round - in the Garden no less!

I was going to say something nice about it's always a testamount to the professionalism of the set up of EOTR that so little ever leaks out until they want it to. But then you slagged the National so thank your stars I didn't meet you in the campervan park after dark to box yer ears in young man
