  1. My comment was about the demographics of people getting a ticket in this recent sale not really being affected. You're right it is different if you look at the moral and practical implications of leaving the exploit open, but that's a different question entirely
  2. Even if a group gets through with the exploit it's realistically only 1 or 2 'techbros' out of 6 (or more) as you only need one committed techy person who will probably be sorting out their less techy friends. Honestly not too different to a normal big group. I'm sure most people who have tried for tickets with offline friendship groups can agree you have 1 or 2 organisational gurus who have to whip everyone into shape. My group got in with the exploit, but only because someone was taught how to do it by their brother's friend. All 9 of us have been trying and failing for years, we have 7 first timers, and 2 have been once as volunteers because they were desparate to go, so definitely feel like we were due some good luck.

    Jibbing?

While working on gate A last year I had two youngish looking guys sprint past me and up the hill (giant bags on back and everything). Unfortunetely for them one the security turned into Jason Bourne and removed their security hi-vis, stalked them into the festival, bided their time, grabbed them once they got comfortable and chucked them out.
  4. Some floated over early on Friday morning. Then again on Saturday evening and I think one was shaped like a grenade iirc

Feel the same. Working makes you much more pressured for time and a bit knackered so wasn't able to just wander and discover new bands or even hang around the campsite with friends doing nothing which are two big festival perks for me.

3*8 hours standing on top of all the trekking across site is probably more exercise than 95% of volunteers do in daily life. No doubt some are a bit lazy or naive but even as a active young-ish person, my lower back was suffering by Saturday, I'd rather walk for 8 hrs than stand. My gate wasn't super hectic. Even on Weds, after the initial rush plenty of 10+ min gaps with no movement. Might not work for the major gates but I don't see the harm in softening the language a bit. Might be naive from me but I feel most volunteers/supervisors are smart enough to use their discretion and not take the piss i.e. sit if it's dead, stand if it's busy

Gutted to have to give up the earlies but B was still good enough for me leaving Fri and Sun free. Weds 14-22, Fri 6-14, Sat 22-6. Good experience overall and greatful to Oxfam for a route into the first glasto. Unfortunately, even with 'good' shifts it had the issues I'd expected i.e. FOMO and time management. Nightmare trying to juggle actual working time, long walks back to Oxfield and across site, struggling to get rest in the baking sun after the overnight or early shift with Pyramid blasting in the background, and catching up with friends inside the festival. Ewe didn't miss any bands we wanted to see, but often felt like we were too early or late to the party because work forced us to do our own thing. Probably less of a problem if you don't have lots of friends attending or your friends are all workers too. Other small criticisms: - They should be way more lenient about sitting down on shift, 8 hours on your feet is silly and unhealthy. - They should stop banging on about tea and coffee on shift as if it's guaranteed. - Feel bad because they were lovely and seemed to be having a tough time but the Oxfield food wasnt it, very stingy portions Pros (other than it being cheaper) were loos/showers were decent, loved the crew bars and loved seeing the site on Mon/Tues Don't think I will bother volunteering again, although I'm sure it will all look tempting should I fail to get a ticket in general sale...
  8. The best: the £6 gigantic Bhajis from the dosa place opposite Carhenge were bloody unreal. Honourable mention: Mac and cheese from Gourmet Mac and cheese in silver Hayes near levels and the WOW sign. The bad: Burger from Holy Cow Silver Hayes side of Other stage. Wasn't expecting much but still disappointingly bland and overpriced.
  9. Hi, Is there anywhere to buy walking boots at the festival? Mine have come apart a day after arrival
  10. Gone a bit overkill with clothes but worst case I leave it in the car 6 outfits (Tues-Sun) + 2 tees I don't care about for the journey there and back 5 tops (black, white and grey), 5 funky shirts for layering, 1 'eclectic' football shirt (definitely not EFL or PL), 1 long sleeve, 1 light jacket, 1 thicker jumper, 1 waterproof (certified pessimist) 2 shorts, 1 light joggers Socks and boxers Beaten trainers, Walking Boots, flip flops 5 hats both baseball and bucket (might drop down to 3) up to 3 sunglasses
  11. The £300ish/24hr shift that goes to oxfam is barely minimum wage after holiday pay. It's a tricky one, question is how much would you have to raise the wage to not only lure people to rural Somerset but also encourage them to take it seriously. And does that balance out with the current amount being paid, help reduce overcrowding and maintain the vibe. I'd assume any current volunteers are keenos but I doubt they'd bother with long shifts. I've worked other festivals where people get handed their schedule, see multiple 12 paid hour shifts and vanish into the sunset because they cba.
  12. Would this have much of an effect? People don't know the line up in November yet tickets still go in minutes. What do you think the demographic might change to, less mainstream?
  13. My go-to is standard cool box, 2 bags of ice and various chilled and semi-frozen beverages. Drinks normally last 3 days before a top up is needed. Never tested this out at a glastonbury length festival though. I'll be arriving Mon, my worry is if the weather is at all similar to this weekend, any mildly chilled cans taken from the campside will be baking hot after 30 minutes walking around inside the festival. Since I can't be bothered to carry a cool bag inside the fesitival, might just take the L and learn to love a warm can.

Anyone Oxfam vets know what the set up for the earlies is and when the first shifts are? I'm assuming it's arrive and register on Saturday, a mandatory briefing at some point, then first shift on Sunday? Is there a briefing every day? Partner has a commitment they can't get out of on Saturday, so best case in a Sat night or early Sun arrival. Will of course ask directly but wanted to scope how flexible they are. Obviously really don't want to give up the very fortunate early shifts if it can be avoided!

Had a thought that if you had a recent Oxfam spot but won a ticket competition (like the Vodafone one that launched today) I assume you'd lose the deposit? Seems a bit harsh especially since they'll easily get their money back judging from those still trying to bag a spot on here
