Sad but true 🙃 I understand the need for distancing because no one wants to see Lombardy-esque scenes in our hospitals, but it just makes life so shit that I don’t see any point carrying on. I have no enjoyment of the little things in life anymore. I’m just a big bag of emptiness.

Once we are out of Winter, life will get much much better. Gonna be a shit 3 months or so then we will be into Spring with the possibility of the best festival in the world just around the corner. Dont lose heart mate!

Hard to know, in general, we’ve gone early with restrictions and kept them tighter. Hasn’t stopped us having a similar case load per capita as the UK, but we do have about half the fatality rate if you count confirmed COVID deaths, or under a third if you compare excess deaths (and all the models predict this if you go hard and early)...they were asked to do this a couple of weeks ago, but only fractionally increased the restrictions to see if that would work...but it hasn’t had the desired impact. Economically, parts of our economy that contribute massively have done very well (pharmaceuticals, medical devices and IT services), so it’s masked the broader economic impacts and our overall economy has fared quite well considering (on the ground it’s a different story, people are struggling, but a milder economic hit than predicted has given the government a bit of wiggle room to look after people through another “lockdown”...so far this year, income tax is only down 2% and corporate tax is up 31%)...they released the budget last week with a contingency built in for another lockdown (and another for a no-deal Brexit), so it looks like they are going to use it and hope to have a Christmas season that’s more like how things were in the Summer (hopefully!). What Bojo and his buddies decide to go with is anyone’s guess! (They may have little option soon though if hospitals are over-run). People just have too many contacts at the moment to keep a lid on things, so unfortunately we’re back at the (almost) nuclear option.

I'm out of upvotes, but thankyou for the detailed reply. I agree, in that I think they will have no option soon. They can't afford to repeat the human cost of this spring.

Ireland just moved to level 5 nationwide. Strictest control measures. Couple of slight tweaks (allowed to meet one other household outdoors, no mixing indoors at all) but we’re back to a 5km radius from our house...non-essential retail closed, pubs/bars/restaurants take away only, work from home, income support restored to the levels in April...to last 6 weeks, but expected to allow December to be largely virus-free. Review in 4 weeks, hopefully won’t be extended!

Do you think England will follow suit..?

circuit break over christmas surely...whilst everyone is inside watching shite on the tv and stuffing their faces.

I would selfishly love this. I work over Christmas normally so this would equal the best Christmas I will have had in years!

By relaxations over Christmas, I mean groups of 10-12 maximum. Not massive parties.

There's no way. It would be insane to throw away all the hard work of restrictions for 1 day surely...?

I’m hoping that Ardens win is a sign of things to come. That deep down a lot of people want to elect leaders who will take the pandemic seriously.

Not holding my breath but I do find that political change tends to come in a sweep (like Brexit and Trump back to back).

    I hope you are right!

Independent SAGE calling for a late May style lockdown (note, NOT a March style lockdown) for 6 weeks to sort out test and trace.

What was the difference? I didn't go back to work until July so was all the same style lockdown to me .

I’m really having a “life is never going back to normal” day today :(

I know what u mean, seeing those case numbers from France today is scary. This whole second wave is only really just starting here, I'm dreading what the winter is gonna bring. When are we gonna get this national lockdown?! Every day waiting is more lives lost.

  9. I have a feeling that another total lockdown is imminent in the next few weeks. I can't see the country just carrying on as normal when the daily death toll starts hitting 500 + daily again. Its shocking to see well over 100 today, and this is just the start...😪

  10. Just got round to listening to Working mens club. Fantastic album, 'Valleys' in particular is the best new music I have heard in a long time. Joy division/stone roses/orbital combined.

It wasn't managed properly and we are where we are now though. And this will end, and when it does music will still exist, food vendors will still exist, festivals will still exist and football will still exist. Will your favourites be part of that? Maybe not. That's sad. But there will be other ones.

Maybe you think I'm the mad one, but I likewise feel the same way about people who think we should just accept tens of thousands of extra deaths so Gahndi's Flip Flop can stay open.

Jobs go away too. We nearly all lose jobs at some point in our lives.

I know it's a bit selfish, but I honestly can't wait for the pubs to shut again. It's damn stressful working there and I'll probably enjoy it more than the previous lockdown because it's autumn/winter this time

I know how u feel. Since reopening, the hotel where I work has made half the staff redundant sadly. Which means we are all working much longer shifts and 6 day weeks. Its busier than ever too for some reason, so its very tiring at the moment. I'm in Cornwall where there are lots of cases but not anything like the same scale as NW etc so we won't be closing anytime soon although I can see it happening in the next few weeks.

If they said reduced capacity, ballot for everyone who has tickets, whoever is unsuccessful automatically gets a ticket for 2022? Would you?

Id be happy with that. Be amazing to be at a reduced capacity festival with all the extra space and less queues between stages.

I’m hearing Scotland will close pubs and bars, but allow cafes and restaurants to stay open but ban them from selling alcohol! They’re calling it the Sober October Circuit Breaker

I've been hearing something very similar, cafes and restaurants to stay open but 'boozers' to be closed from Friday. I guess they will probably let pubs stay open for serving food and soft drinks only.

This was a Sun article which turned out to be incorrect. Sturgeon is going to announce new measures tomorrow but has been very keen to stress that it is not a lockdown or circuit break

Oops! If I'd have known it was a sun article I wouldn't have paid any attention to it. I will be interested to hear what Sturgeon announces tomorrow then as it could set the trend for the rest of the UK.
