  1. @kaosmark2 i remember you being keen to see Hameed back given the potential he showed in India. Any more injuries and he will get his chance.

I’m still not convinced Burns is a long term solution. Hope I’m wrong but I just can’t see him averaging 40+ over any length of time.

I know. He only scored 17 times in the premier league this season.

Dean Holdsworth, Mickey Quinn, Rod Wallace, Dion Dublin, Michael Bridges, Marcus Stewart, James Beattie, Andy Johnson, Darren Bent, Charlie Austin, Danny Ings all matched or bettered that achievement. Some of them did so over a much longer period of time than Bamford has.

Southgate has said why Bamford wasn’t selected. He wanted to keep the same core players together that were there for the qualifying rounds.

Bamford isn’t the right sort of player for a Southgate led England team anyway. He prefers to play in an attacking team rather than the defensive, stop start, passing sideways style of football England have been playing.

    Bamford just isn’t good enough.

  4. I have tickets for the Edgbaston test against NZ. Still waiting to find out whether I’ll be able to go or not, as the capacity is being limited due to COVID.

Previously been informed I’ll get a final decision today, so I’m nervously refreshing my email account awaiting the news...

For the first couple of months he was. Has tailed off last few weeks.

    True.

He also conserves a lot of energy (that’s putting it kindly), and why Fornals is so important to our team.

Was your wage bill not higher though, due to being a relegated premier League team?

No. It was because he went out and bought established premier league players and paid a (relative) fortune to do so. No other championship manager had the financial backing to spend £4m in transfer fees and many millions more on a 50 grand a week, 5 year contract for Kevin Nolan.

By premier League standards, he did not spend a fortune and stabilised you in the division. You may hate the man and his football, but he did a decent job at West Ham.

At no time did West Ham have anywhere near the third lowest wage bill in the premier league.

He got you promoted at the first attempt and stabilised you as a premier league team. He did that despite not spending a fortune. I would say that was a decent job.

Wrong. He got promotion only by spending a fortune.

Our wage bill at £42m the highest in the league by £13m, and nearly 33% higher than the 2nd highest wage bill in the league.

Scraping promotion through the play offs given the resources at his disposal was hardly an amazing feat.

Upon promotion he spent abysmally on large value overpriced transfers (Carroll, Jarvis, etc), and worse still distributed lots more on small transfer fees but large agent fees, spread around all his mates he was and still is in cahoots with.

Hopefully his stain on English football is coming to an end.

    No he didn’t.

What in hell is Darren Stevens on? This form is ridiculous!

In the missus’ bad books - first game of the season today - odd having to apply for a ticket in the ballot as member.

As superb as god is - check out Labuschagne’s dismissal (😲) - not that I’m complaining !

    Yeah I got that one.

For me a fit Robson and England would of won the world Cup in 86. To be honest he pocketed maradonna in 84. 👍

    Amazing player.

    No argument from me.

Cruel that his appearances tally for both club and country isn’t what it ought to have been.

I'm not having that mate, the greatest English midfielder in the last 40 years.

Probably wasn’t worded very well and I forgot to add the intended explanation to the *.

Wasn’t suggesting Robson wasn’t very good at club level. I just think he was usually superb for England - which given the circumstances is quite something.

*”the shit one with the perm” was a regular pub joke around Upton Park once upon a time, in reference to Pop Robson and faux misunderstandings.

Wales aren't very good, but beat a good team in the last Euros. Laws of probability suggest England have to beat a good team in these tournament sometime.

It’s a cup competition of course it happens. It just happens less than a better team beating an inferior one.

Same can be said for many players over the years for England. #scholes

Barnes and Waddle spring to mind. Conversely, Robson (the shit one with the perm*) was usually even better for country than he was for club.

I mean Greece and Denmark have won the Euros with worse squads.

Yes. With teams that managed to over achieve.

In the works cup Southgate beat the average and poor teams and lost to the good ones. That's probably what I see continuing.

England aren’t very good. They should lose to good teams.
